The PDA model PAX collects and processesdata acquired by strain transducers andaccelerometers manufactured by PileDynamics.

When used in Remote Modethe PAX offers a fieldcrew a simple software interface andstraightforward mode of operation. An officecomputer running PDA-W and receiving data givesthe engineer the ability to perform comprehensivemonitoring and analysis in real time. For those thatopt to be present during the execution of the loadtest, the PAX Local Mode performs as a fullcapability Pile Driving Analyzer coupled with a fullcapabilities personal computer. The PAX gives thefield engineer access to all variables of interest inreal time. It links directly to the latest version of the

    dynamic test data interpretation softwareCAPWAP.

Engineers around the world have been using the PDA to verify thebearing capacity of all t ypes of deep foundations for more than 30 years.High strain dynamic tests, as tests performed with PDAs are commonlyknown, are carried out quickly and are non-destruct ive. Properlyinterpreted dynamic test results (after PDA data are analyzed withCAPWAP software) correlate very well with foundation capacitiesobtained from conventional static load tests. The test also confirms theintegrity of the foundation element. When dynamic testing is performed

during initial driving of piles, it also provides information on drivinghammer performance and driving stresses.

High Strain Dynamic Tests are standardized by ASTM D4945. All modelsof PDA, as well as Pile Dynamics st rain transducers and accelerometers,

    conform to those standards.

Pile Dynamics conceived the idea of collectingdynamic testing data on site and transmitting it toan office computer back in the 1990s, andpatented the first remote data transmitting PDA

(the PAL-R) in 2001. PDA users in Australia,England, Sweden, Malaysia and other countriesimmediately embraced remote dynamic testing. These early adopters realized that sending onlythe instrument to the job site, and using the PDAsoftware (PDA-W) to monitor the load test in anoffice computer would give them a competitiveadvantage. They could now offer their clientstremendous scheduling flexibility and enjoy nodown time due to travel or weather delays.

The Pile Driving Analyzer (PDA) model PAXcrowns the succession of improvements thatPDAs have experienced during their lifetime. Itis sufficiently small to be portable, is battery

operated, and weighs only 5 kg (10 lbs). Itsdisplay doubles up as its control panel andkeyboard, and has extremely high visibility inall lighting conditions. The PAX features broadband internet remote data transmissioncapability.
