Even as it does all these, it will work to involve students of sociology, both major and non-major to involve them in extension work. Likewise, it will do the same for faculty members.

Extension Services

1. Community Organizing● Faculty members and students involved will undertake a community study with special emphasis on the resources of the community, livelihood, social problems, geographical features, and demographic profile. Information gathered will be used in proposing plans for action and in building organizations that will empower the locals of the said barangay. Through participatory research, the main objective of the service is

to give skills to the people in identifying and solving their problems.

2. Adult Education● The Department believes that education as a tool for self-consciousness and total liberation of self, whether formal, informal, or non-formal, should not only be offered to the youth. Hence, through various forms, the Department is endeavoring to empower the adult population, especially the old people through conducting seminars, workshops, organizing efforts, and team building activities that will enhance their self esteem and empower them to move for their welfare and development.

3. Values Education● Apathy and anomie characterize the modern society. Cherished Filipino values are at the brink of extinction, especially among the youth. Thus the Department is offering programs through seminars and workshops that will highlight the importance of Filipino values as a key to improving Filipino society. Through empowering the stakeholders, the Department is hoping for a brighter and more humane future.

4. Community Volunteers● Several of the faculty members and students are lending their hands in helping NGOs and GOs organize communities, perform community studies, conduct outreach programs and immersion activities, among others.

5. Consultancy● Through the Department’s roster of experts, stakeholders, especially NGOs and community leaders, are in the advantage of consulting some of the experts in the field of Sociology in the country. Consultancy on social programs and research undertakings are conducted by appointment with the faculty member(s) concerned.

6. Training Programs and Workshops● The Department is also offering small group processes and team building facilitation in conducting seminars and

8. Exhibit● Photo exhibits on different themes are conducted throughout the year depending on the issue(s) of a time. Photo exhibits are conducted to raise the awareness level of students, faculty members, and other stakeholders on the issue at hand.

9. Ethnographic Studies● Observation and documentation of cultural practices are commonly performed parallel to the conduct of community studies by the Department. Faculty members and students use research methods that are based on the participatory approach. Cultural relativism is adapted as a mode of thinking while conducting the study. The goal is to produce an account of a living culture as lively and truthful as possible.

Target Beneficiaries

System of Planning

The extension and community services coordinator as well as the members should identify the areas where the department’s services are needed. Once the areas have been identified, the committee conducts a needs assessment through observation, immersion, and interviews either orally or with the use of a research instrument.

programs they need. A memorandum of agreement is drawn between the parties. Planning then proceeds. The following steps are undertaken:

1. Identifying the programs to be implemented as well as the target beneficiaries.

2. Determining the funds to be needed as well as the possible source.

3. Listing down the activities that will be involved in the program.

4. Making the budget.5. Sourcing of funds.6. Scheduling a time table.7. Tasking.

Implementation, Monitoring, and Evaluation

The program with the corresponding activities are then implemented. All possible hitches are leaked into s that a plan B is developed.

The programs are regularly monitored through a monitoring instrument or through feedback from the stakeholders. This is so that the committee can determine the affectivity of its program, how it can still be improved, and whether to continue or change the program.

Two evaluations are made, one with the community through an evaluation instrument or a feedback mechanism. The results are fed into the committee while also making their own evaluation gathered through observation, immersion, and interview with the stakeholders.
