ABOUT THE INSTITUTION OF ENGINEERS (INDIA)
The Institution of Engineers (India) or IEI is the largest multidisciplinary
professional body that encompasses 15 engineering disciplines and
gives engineers a global platform from which to share professional
interest. IEI has membership strength of nearly 0.7 million.
Established in 1920, with its headquarters at 8 Gokhale Road, Kolkata
700020, IEI has served the engineering fraternity for over nine
decades. In this period of time it has been inextricably linked with the
history of modern-day engineering. Today, its quest for professional
excellence has given it a place of pride in almost every prestigious and
relevant organization across the globe. IEI functions among
professional engineers, academicians and research workers. It
provides a vast array of technical, professional and supporting
services to the Government, Industries, Academia and the
Engineering fraternity, operating from over 100 centres located
across the country. The Institution has established R&D centres at
various locations in the country and also provides grant-in-aid to its
members to conduct research and development on engineering
subjects.
The Udaipur Local Centre which was established in 1979 has attained
the young age of 33 years witnessed organization of many technical
events, seminar and National Conventions, Council Meetings besides
mega event of 22nd Indian Engineering Congress in Dec 2007.Udaipur Local Centre has more than 800 members and 2000 senior
technician members, student chapters and Institutional members.
The Centre has its own infrastructure spread in 16000 Sq Ft area with
amenities like Conference hall, meeting hall, library, two AC guest
rooms, office, store and dormitory beside lawn of 2500 Sq Ft.
About College of Technology& EngineeringThe College of Technology and Engineering was established in 1964
and offers AICTE approved UG & PG courses in Electrical,
Mechanical, Agricultural, Mining, CSE, ECE, IT and Civil Engineering.
The department of electrical engineering was established in the year
1957 and presently offers B.Tech, M.Tech (Power Electronics) and
PhD programmes. The Department is also actively engaged inresearch, consultancy and testing in the area of power electronics and
power systems. Students passed out from this department are well
placed through campus selection both in the core sector as well as in
software companies at national and international level. The
department has excellent infrastructure and laboratories for practical
know-how and research.
Preamble:
Power Electronic have contributed unprecedented applications from
commercial to industrial, particularly converter technology has
advanced to furnish controllable power factor with high power quality
like matrix converter, high frequency AC link converter, multilevelconverter. At the same time, the drive control technology, particularly
direct torque and field control have revolutionized the fine position and
speed control required in the industry. For bulk power transmission
FACTS devices in HVAC and for long distance transmission HVDC &
MTDC have been employed. Advanced converters interfacing
techniques for various renewable energy sources like offshore wind
power generation system, solar park, fuel cell for its effective uses. A
tremendous effort is being deployed on the st ructural and as well as
control level in order to get cost effective and optimized power
electronics system that would enhance the reliability and the power
quality in distributed generation, smart grid, and modern power
system.
The objective of this seminar is to provide an opportunity to the
professionals, field experts, academicians, researchers and students
to interact and exchange ideas, experience and expertise in the areasof power electronics and its application in power system. Besides this,
participants will also be enlightened about vast avenues, current and
emerging technological developments in the field of power electronics
and its application in control of power system will be thoroughly
explored and discussed.
Themes:1. Advanced power semiconductor devices
2. Soft switching, multilevel converters, matrix converters, HFAC
converters etc.
3. Integrated renewable systems
4. Advanced batteries, energy storage devices and systems
5. Power quality devices and issues
6. Power management and energy efficiencies
7. Smart grid technologies, net metering, feed-in tariff
8. High voltage DC transmission lines
9. Power converters modeling, simulation and control
10. Electric machines in motion control and others
