Los Angeles County-operated public accessways and beaches may be
recognized by theCounty-maintained garbage cans located at
accessway entrances or along the beachesthemselves. Rules and
regulations are also posted.
STAIR WAY TO BEACH:A public stairway leads to the beach at 31344
Broad Beach Rd.;open sunrise to sunset. Private property on either
side; do not trespass.
WALKWAY AND STEPS TO BEACH: A cement walkway and steps lead to
the beach at31200 Broad Beach Road. Private property on either
side; do not trespass. Limited streetparking.
ZUMA BEACH COUNTY PARK:Wide, sandy beach on the west side of
Point Dume outsideSanta Monica Bay; L.A.s largest county-owned
beach. Facilities include swings, outdoorshowers, dressing rooms,
restrooms, food concessions, sand volleyball courts, and a
largeparking lot; fee. Rough surf; surfing and diving. Two beach
wheelchairs are kept at thebeach, call for availability. Zuma
Lifeguard Headquarters: (310) 457-2525.
POINT DUME WHALE WATCH: A stairway at Westward Beach Rd. and
Birdview Rd. leadsup to the whale watch, which has benches and
provides a view of the ocean. Stairway beginsnext to the res tau
rant.
POINT DUME STATE BEACH:Good swimming, surfing, diving, and
tidepools; sand stonecliffs. Beach closes at dark. Fee parking lot,
outdoor shower, and restrooms are located atthe southeast end of
the beach. Ac cess is also available from Zuma Beach to the north
west.Beach is adjacent to the Point Dume Headlands, where there are
informal trails.
POINT DUME STATE PRESERVE:Headlands provide outstanding views,
particularly dur-ing whale migration. Des ignated parking spaces
along Cliffside Drive. Shuttle available fromCity of Malibu. Trail
system preserves the bluff/sand dune hab itat; stairway leads down
to Lit-tle Dume Beach.

Buffers: Some recorded grants of lateral public access provide
for a "buffer" between authorized development on aproperty and the
portion of the property available for public access. However, the
public's right, under Californialaw, to use lands seaward of the
mean high tide line takes precedence over any buffer included in a
grant of publicaccess, so any buffers apply only landward of the
mean high tide line. A buffer extends a designated distance
seaward from authorized development (i.e., approved deck,
seawall, or structure) on the property and is noted in thebrief
access description. In some cases, due to space constraints, the
following descriptions of buffers forindividual properties are
included as footnotes:
(a) Excluding a 5 ft. buffer from authorized development(b)
Excluding a 10 ft. buffer from authorized development(c) Excluding
a 50 ft. buffer from the residential structure
