Thank you for volunteering
Thank you for volunteering at the Bridgestone SENIOR PLAYERS. Volunteers are truly the backbone of
our tournament! Each year it takes over 900 volunteers that comprise over 34 committees to run the
Bridgestone SENIOR PLAYERS. These committees are responsible for everything from greeting our
patrons at the gate to transporting players and dignitaries to and from the airport. Through the hard
work of our volunteers, Northern Ohio Golf Charities, in partnership with the PGA TOUR were able to
donate over $825,000 to local charities.
You now join the ranks with the best volunteers in the world. We are recognized as being friendly,
helpful, and courteous with a long-standing history and commitment to the Akron area. Together, we
will continue the excellence that had the Bridgestone Invitational named the #1 tournament in the
country by the PGA TOUR in 2015. Thank you for your hard work and commitment. We look forward to
a great year!

Dave Franklin Awards
Each year during the tournament, volunteers are asked to nominate someone who exemplifies the true
and selfless meaning of being a volunteer. This highly respected award is named for David H. Franklin, a
long-time volunteer who worked at the tournament for 25 years before losing his battle with cancer.
Nomination forms can be turned into the Volunteer Compound or the Tournament Office. Forms must
be submitted by noon on Friday of tournament week.
As the tournament draws to a close, a committee selects a recipient from those nominated based on the following criteria:
• Has been a volunteer with the tournament for at least five years. • Has shown personal dedication and commitment to making the tournament successful. • Always responded to what was required, regardless of how mundane the task. • Has been unselfish in her/his efforts, thinking more about making the tournament successful
than receiving individual recognition.
6 | P a g e
The award recipient will be announced following the Volunteer Breakfast held on Saturday of tournament week.
Pizza Party
During tournament week, all volunteers are invited to a pizza party (day to be determined). There will be
pizza and wings for all and, as always, the beer trailer will be open. This is a great chance to catch up
with old friends and to make some new friends too. For volunteers that are scheduled to work during
this time, food will be timed for distribution at staggered times so all volunteers have the opportunity to
eat. For those scheduled to work late, efforts will be made to have something brought to you.
Breakfast
On Saturday of tournament week, all volunteers are invited to a breakfast catered by Waterloo
Restaurant back at the Volunteer Compound. Breakfast will be served 6:30am – 9:00am. For volunteers
that are scheduled to work during this time, efforts will be made to have something brought to you.
Things to Know as a Volunteer
Traits of a Great Volunteer
The Bridgestone SENIOR PLAYERS Championship is known for our wonderful volunteers. To continue this
great tradition, we are always looking for new volunteers who demonstrate the traits of a great
volunteer. Volunteers are expected to be friendly, courteous and helpful to guests, vendors, and other
volunteers. A successful Volunteer will display a knowledge and/or willingness to learn about our
tournament, tournament events and golf etiquette in order to assist our guests.
Dress Code
Each volunteer will be provided a logo shirt and cap or visor with your uniform package.
Men wear khaki slacks or knee length Bermuda shorts with short socks. Please - no cargo style
shorts. Women wear khaki slacks, skirts, capris or knee length shorts. No metal spike shoes are
permitted. These items are not on the order form. You must provide your own.
What you Can and Can’t Bring in as a Volunteer
Volunteers are expected to adhere to the same restrictions that guests have when it comes to
tournament entry.
• Volunteers, like guests, are permitted to bring a 6x6x6 bag or purse into the tournament or a

purpose.

try to encourage guests to follow the Mobile Device Policy. If the issue continues, contact the
Mobile Device Committee.
If you are running late or can’t make your shift
If you are running late or are unable to make your assigned shift, please contact your committee
chairman as soon as possible.

tournament. Once inside, please report to your committee for your assigned shift.
8 | P a g e
Assisting With Multiple Committees
Typically, volunteers are assigned to a single committee and are assigned shifts based on both the
volunteer’s availability and the committee’s needs. Any volunteer that would like to work additional
shifts or is interested in gaining experience with other committees can volunteer to assist in multiple
committees. If interested, please see your committee chairmen, vice chairman or executive vice
chairman with your availability and the committee(s) you are interested in. If you need further
assistance, contact the tournament office.

located in the barn where volunteers may purchase uniform shirts, hats and jackets from the current or
previous years, only available as supplies last.
Weather – Delays and Early Starts
Occasionally tee times must be changed due to weather. When this happens, Committee Chairmen will
attempt to reach out to all impacted volunteers with new shift times. Changes in tee times are available
online at www.bridgestoneseniorplayers.org or by downloading the PGA Tour app. If you are unsure if a
change in tee time impacts you, please contact your committee chairman.
Volunteer Schedule
All volunteers are asked to commit to the maximum number of shifts possible. Each committee has
different times and scheduling needs. Please talk to your committee chairmen regarding the
expectations and needs of your specific committee.
Lunch breaks are usually taken before or after your scheduled shift. Please see your Chairman regarding
lunch times. When your scheduled shift is up, please do not leave your station until your replacement

Volunteers
At any time during play, if the sirens go off, depending on assignment, volunteers may be evacuated to
the nearest enclosed location. For gates, a skeleton staff may remain to secure the gates from re-entry
depending on the severity of the weather. If sirens go off, committee chairmen will communicate
instructions to all volunteers. Please follow your Chairman’s instructions accordingly.
