All-Steel Modular SuperstructuresBig R manufactures superstructures in modular panels that allow for rapid installation in the field. These bridges are ideal for county and municipal use. Often, local crews using equipment on-hand can place the superstructure. Spans from 16' to over 150' are available in any width. When site conditions require skewed ends, we can furnish the structure with skewed ends.

Rapid installation of modular components means an economical installation with reduced equipment time as well as greatly reduced road closure time.

Modular Concrete Deck Options When concrete decks are required, the superstructure is manufactured with steel girders complete with shop installed shear connectors and stay-in-place forms. After erection of the superstructure, rebar is installed and a concrete deck is poured by others. Precast concrete deck panel options are also available.

Dur-A-Span® Aluminum Structural PlateDur-A-Span® is available in pipe, pipe-arch, arch and the popular aluminum box culvert shape shown above. Why use aluminum? It assembles easily and is extremely durable in a wide range of environmental conditions.

Super•Cor® Box CulvertsSuper•Cor® box culverts in galvanized steel combine the strength and cost advantages of the Super•Cor® corrugation profile with a special patented continuous reinforcement along the length of the structure. This extra reinforcement permits designs exceeding 50' in span. Super•Cor® boxes are an ideal solution for long span, low rise situations with shallow cover. We also offer multiple headwall options to enhance the performance and look of the end treatments.

Super•Cor® ArchesSuper•Cor® arches in galvanized steel are the modern choice for bridge replacements or grade separations when large end areas or wide spans are required. Spans from 28' to over 80' are in use worldwide. The 5 1/2" deep corrugation is nine times stiffer than conventional structural plate. This stiffness ensures easier shape control and allows for a wider range of backfill materials. Super•Cor® arches can be installed over natural streambeds without environmental disturbance. They are a popular choice from a green perspective and from a budgetary point of view.

Bolt-A-Plate® Steel Structural PlateBolt-A-Plate® has been supplied on thousands of projects. With so much emphasis being placed on infrastructure these days, including bridge replacement by local governments, Bolt-A-Plate® structures are a strong and economical alternative to more traditional bridge structures. The combination of galvanized coatings with lightweight corrugated steel construction, plus a wide range of available shapes and sizes, gives Bolt-A-Plate® a versatility that’s second to none.

Truss BridgesBig R has become one of the leading pedestrian bridge manufacturers in the U.S. with installations from Alaska to Florida, fromtheNortheasttotheSouthwest. Our bridges are used in parks, trail systems, golf courses, skyways and wherever the need exists for pedestrian bridges. Weathering or painted steel is available and decks can be timber or concrete.

Sandia Bridge™

This low-profile design blends into any landscape beautifully. It’s ideal for pedestrian paths, as well as golf cart and vehicular loading. Sandia Bridge™ spans are available up to 35', in our patent-pending composite concrete/steel design. After the modular components are installed, local contractors can install a concrete deck.

MSE Retaining WallsOur retaining wall systems are available as Welded Wire Walls, Two-Stage Welded Wire Walls with Concrete Fascia, or Precast Panel Walls. They are quick and easy to erect and are easily adapted to curves, angles and steps. Concrete panels offer smooth or textured finishes to suit a wide variety of architectural treatments.

Corrugated Steel Pipe (CSP)CSP in large diameter pipe or pipe-arch shapes are the preferred product for detention systems, as shown here, and for short span bridge replacements. We manufacture in galvanized, aluminized and polymer coated steel.

Steel Sheet PilingBig R sheet piling is roll-formed with pre-galvanized or bare steel. Used behind bearing piling, it is cost-effective for bridge headwalls and wing walls. Other uses include trench shoring, retaining walls, cut-off walls and many more.

Steel Bridge DeckBig R manufactures a 4 1/4" deep steel deck section using Grade 50 steel in pre-galvanized or bare steel. Our deck is the strongest in the industry. While we use it in our all-steel modular bridges, it can also be installed on bridges that are erected in the field. It is widely used for new construction and to rehabilitate existing bridges.

The all-steel modular bridges described earlier in this brochure are an ideal choice when a detour bridge is required. Unlike panel bridges that require many parts and are labor intensive to erect, Big R portable bridges are deliveredinseperatemodules.Erectionisdonequickly,often with existing equipment. Foundations range from piling to timber or concrete sills. Installation is often done in hours, not days. A variety of loadings from HS-20 to off-highway construction vehicle loadings are available. Our portable steel bridges, in both single and multi-lane widths, are available for lease or purchase. Additionally, a detour bridge can be used temporarily and later installed as a permanent structure.
