Term 1, Issue 4 2017
Brewarrina Central School News
Brewarrina Central School had the privilege of hosting a number of principals from around NSW on their tour of
regional schools. Our guests enjoyed visiting classrooms, meeting our staff and students and ended their trip to
Bre with a visit to the fish traps and museum. We hope they each took something away from their trip and hope
to keep in contact with them in the future.
As we come to the closer to the end of the term,
it is important that all students maintain their
regular attendance and complete all set work. It
is great to see them all in school uniform and
arriving on time to school.
If students are absent please remember to let the
school know and if they are running late they just
need to come via the office to sign in. We
encourage everyone to be on time but sometimes
obstacles present themselves. It is better to be at
school than to take a day off just because we are
running late.
Year 12 students are involved in their Half Yearly
Exams. We wish them all the best in these exams.
It is very important that these students attend
school for follow up after their exams and to
maintain a consistent pattern of study.
The students who attended the Regional
Swimming Carnival in Dubbo all did very well. Mr
Smyth told that they had all bettered their
Personal Best times by 10 seconds or more. An
Olympian would love to be able to do that. Well
done to all those students who represented
Brewarrina Central and a huge thank you to
Aunty Raelene and Mr Smyth for taking them.
At Brewarrina Central the students have the
opportunity to be involved in many activities that
are organised by the staff. It has been my
pleasure to have seen Girlfit in operation on a
Thursday afternoon. On Tuesdays the girls have
been involved in cake decorating. The time and
the effort the staff put into such activities is much
appreciated by the students and I. There is a lot
of joy and laughter as the students learn new
skills, enjoy the company of other students and
interact with staff members. There are numerous
activities students can involve themselves in.
Please encourage them to do so.
The Science Laboratory in Secondary will be
undergoing a refurbishment starting next week.
The area around the Science lab will become a
Construction Zone and everyone will need to
obey the signage erected by the builders. We
look forward to a transformation of the Science
area.
If you have any concerns regarding your students’
progress at school please make an appointment
to see the classroom teacher or the appropriate
Executive member. I am more than happy to
meet with families. The school’s number to make
an appointment is 68392186.
Hopefully the rain will stay away enough to allow
the boys to compete in the football in Cobar this
week. Thank you to Mr Smyth, Uncle Charlie and
Adam for taking them. Good luck to the boys who
are very keen for it to happen.
Have a great week and be safe.

The term is nearly at an end and things are not
slowing down!!!
Congratulations to our Regional swimmers, who
all put in outstanding efforts. Every child beat
their own personal bests, with most by more than
ten seconds!!! On Tuesday our Primary boys went
to Cobar and played their hearts out. The junior
boys played well all day, without any reserves.
The senior boys reached the semi-finals and were
beaten by the dreaded golden point rule. They all
showed great sportsmanship and made us proud.
Next week we were expecting to have a visit from
the Moorambilla people but unfortunately that
has been postponed due to illness. We hope
Michelle feels better soon.
There is no doubt your little people are coming
home asking for spare change, mine definitely
have been! Primary have started their fundraising
campaign with an Easter egg raffle and guessing
competition. All monies will go towards reducing
the cost to families for the Year 3/4 Lake Keep It
excursion being organised for Term 4. Details of
the excursion will be going home soon.
In week 11 there will be an Easter Hat parade. An
invitation will be sent home closer to the date.
If you have any concerns or you would like to call
in and have a chat, we would love to see you.
Thanks, Beck Williams
Personalised Learning Plans (PLPs) were done in
the High School this week, with students in Year
7, 11 and 12. A great opportunity for students to
pinpoint areas they need support with and to let
staff know a bit about what makes them who
they are. All PLPs will be mailed home to parents
by the end of the term.
Year 7 has become an increasing concern to staff
this term, as the group has been quite disruptive,
which effects the learning of all students. The
staff have been working very hard with all
students to ensure a love of being at school and
developing positive learning behaviours. We ask
for parents to support us with this, as we all want
what is best for our kids.
The PBL Reward Day will be held in Week 11 of
this term. Students need to earn two wristbands
(8 merits) to receive the reward. It is a fantastic
day and a great chance to recognise consistent
positive behaviour. The PBL focus for the next
fortnight is the playground and secondary quads.
Students are reminded that Secondary students
are not permitted in the Primary quads during
playtimes. The Secondary Quad is a quiet area for
sitting, no games are permitted in the quads.
Bikes and scooters should not be ridden at any
time in any part of the school grounds.
Some other sporting and academic events have
been happening to keep our students busy, which
has been great.
It has been fantastic to walk around secondary
classes and see some focussed learning
happening. Year 8,9,10 and Year 11 are so
engaged in classroom activities and are awesome
team members.
Please remember if you have any questions or
concerns about your child, to contact the school.
Sarah Trapman
The PBL team
have identified
that the
playground is an
area that needs
to be
readdressed.
There has been an increase in incidents on the
playground. As such, lessons will be taught to
students addressing the expected behaviour on
the playground. Constant recognition of positive
behaviours also reinforces the expectations we
have.
Next term we will have a special competition
across the school in promotion of keeping our
school clean and picking up rubbish.
If parents have any suggestions about ways we
can recognise positive behaviour, we are always
looking for new ideas. Please come in and see us!

1 Coral Reef 1 Coral Reef has been making a splash this term and Aunty Christine and I are so proud!
This term has been filled with lots of hands on learning opportunities, sharing, exploring
and growing. Every student in 1C has had a fantastic start to the year and we cannot wait
to watch them grow as the year goes on.
Check out some of the amazing things we have done this term below.
Miss Crowther and Aunty Christine.
WOW!! What a term it has been in 2B. We have been such busy bees these past few weeks. I have been
getting to know 2B and I am so excited about what I have seen already.
We have been writing large amounts of quality work which is being amazingly edited and published. What
a spectacular sight it is seeing the published work hanging up. Our reading is improving and students are
enjoying new and exciting word work in our Jellybean table.
At assembly last week we presented our sensational artworks and read some fascinating facts about bees.
Here are some pictures of what we have been doing in 2B this term.
It certainly has been a great start to the year for 2B Bumble Bees, Aunty Lyn, Aunty Les and Mr Beames.
Please feel free to pop into our classroom for a yarn anytime.
On Thursday 23rd February, Year 11 and 12 Visual Arts students went
down to Dubbo with Ms Dixon to see the exhibition, ‘Wunderkammer’ at
Western Plains Cultural Centre. The exhibition presented sculptures by
artist Rod McCrae, using taxidermied animals to look at aspects of the
relationship between humans and nature, including issues such as climate
change, pollution and hunting. The Centre’s education officer then took
students around the exhibition, ‘Colonial Afterlives’, exploring the impact
of colonialism on Australia. We were also very lucky to be taken out the
back of the Centre to see the inner workings of a gallery. This was the first
art exhibition students had seen, so it was a great opportunity to
understand the power art has when seen in close proximity. The class is
now exploring the sculptures as part of their first unit.

General Comment: The Academy has had a
very busy Term 1. Last week was the Junior Touch
Football Carnival at our newest Academy in
Quirindi. The fellas played some great footy and
represented the School and Academy well. We
were unlucky to be beaten in the Semi’s by our
Bourke brothers who went on to claim the
competition.
The coming weeks are busy with the Senior
Academy off to Dubbo for the Rugby League
Carnival. This will be our largest Carnival to date
with the East Coast and Southern Region
combining with us to make this a huge event.
Good luck to the boys who have earned the right
to attend this camp.
The Staff and student lunch last week was a
highlight with the fellas inviting along a lunch
guest and we thank all who popped in and look
forward the next lunch special from the Clontarf
menu.
