Presidents Message

Well we are half way through the year of 2017 already. Can you believe it? I cannot. Soon my grandson, Miles will be a year old. He is such an active little man, and although he is a lot of work, I miss him from the moment he leaves my arms, to go back to his wonderful mommy and daddy.

What a Month of May we all had as a Corvette family – So as you know by now I love to give KUDO’S to those working so hard in making sure we all enjoy our time as a Corvette Family. Thank you to Mary and Steve Adams, for a great MYSTERY RIDE, the weather was beautiful, the cars looked great, and everyone had an enjoyable time together landing at Dan’s in West Greenwich for some good food and spirits. Thank you to all the Caravan Leaders, Frank Scrivani, Denny Langlois, Jim Petrarca for making sure you didn’t lose anyone of us in a “BREAKDOWN LANE”. Then came the appreciation luncheon at the RHODE ISLAND COMMUNITY FOOD BANK. Thank you to those that attended this event with me to be recognized for all the good we are doing for the food bank. Did you know that over 55,000 people get assistance from the food bank? What a staggering number for this little state of ours. Thank you to our members for your continued support each month when donating the spare change toward this drive. We are over 2400 pounds of food to date. Then came the NCM SARATOGA, GIDEON PARK KICK OFF FOR THE 2019 NEW ENGLAND CARAVAN TO KY. What a wonderful time with the Bonners and Kings in beautiful Saratoga. The rain didn’t stop us ladies from hat shopping, viewing a horse race at the Saratoga Race track, meeting new people from all over New England. The ladies and myself made quite the entrance during the Kentucky Derby. We had a great time, and KUDOS to Randy and Judy Flock for always working so hard for the NCM. The GATE CITY SPRING FLING CAR SHOW was a complete success. The Corvette Club of Rhode Island, swept the event with over 14 individual awards and the Best of Club Participation. Then a wonderful, relaxing dinner at the Eagle Brook Saloon in Norfolk, Massachu-setts. Congratulations to all that took home a trophy. WHAT A GREAT DAY! We ended the weekend and the month with the Memorial Day Parade in Lincoln, with Peter DiBonventura organizing the die-hard CCRI members that weathered the rain to attend. Mario Hilario was the Grand Marshal in Peter’s car and we even got some publicity live on FB as well as on Channel 10 News. There were so many happy faces in the crowd, Veterans rode shot gun in some members vehicles, it was very heartwarming. Boy did they love hear-ing our cars “ROAR” - After the Lincoln Parade, I was pretty disappointed about North Providence cancel-ling their parade. So, I drove up Mineral Spring Avenue throwing candy out of my car, and tooting the horn by myself all the way up Mineral Spring Avenue and waiving proudly my little American flag. I’m sure people thought I was crazy, but I am so who cares.

The Month of June brings on so many celebrations within our own families, but it also brings us BACK TO THE BEACH. PLEASE DON’T FORGET A CANNED GOOD FOR THEIR FOOD DRIVE WHEN PACKING. For those of you attending, ANGELS ON WHEELS and may we all have a wonderful, safe and fun weekend together. It also brings on our Sponsors event the Paul Masse Vettetacular. Thank you to all of you who have volunteered your services. We will keep you posted as the event gets closer.

Hope MOTHER NATURE gives us a break with this rain throughout the next few weeks, so that we can enjoy all the upcoming festivities. The Corvette Club of Rhode Island rocked the Month of May – SO BRING IT ON JUNE!!!!

For those who wish to caravan to Old Orchard Beach next week, we will meet up at the first rest stop on Rt 95 north. Date: Thursday June 8th Arrival Time: 8:00 AM Departure Time: 8:30 AM Caravan Communication: ֍ Zello App on phones. If you do not have this app and want

to use it for communication, then see someone to assist with the download and setup.

֍ Walki Talkies; those who have Walkie Talkies can use them . Set your unit to channel 15. We will be monitoring both devices.

Some things to consider: ֍ We will be using the buddy system. Your buddy is the car

behind you, if they stop you stop. Cars behind the stopped member will pull in behind them at a safe location. If a safe location is not available, advance until a safe location is available and stop.

֍ Fuel your car before the meeting location. ֍ Be prepared, the first rest stop on Rt 95 may not have

working restrooms. ֍ Communicate your intention to stop so the leader and ca-

boose are aware of the situation.
