Program
Redwood Empire Council, Boy Scouts of America, Friends of Scouting
Boy Scout Merit Badge Sponsorship Program The Redwood Empire council’s Sponsorship Program is designed to alleviate the financial costs associated with Scouting activities. Your financial leadership will positively affect
thousands of youth in your community this year.
Youth Benefits The boy Scouts Merit Badge Sponsorship Program provides opportunities for youth of all backgrounds to grow physically, mentally, and morally in after-school
and weekend activities. The Scouting program is a year-round effort, ensuring our youth possess the leadership qualities required to lead our community
and nation into the future. There is no better time than now to help guide youth in positive directions.
Scouting serves Northern California’s youth by:
1. Providing mentorship and leadership-based activities and engage boys in school and in weekend events to be physi-cally capable, mentally awake, and morally aware.
2. Creating structure that allows youth to earn their way to fun activities like camping trips, in addition to attending educational and enjoyable field trips to local museums, parks and libraries.
3. Teaching youth how to avoid drug and alcohol abuse through the “Drugs: A Deadly Game” program
4. Creating weekly opportunities at group meetings to learn
values such as responsibility, trustworthiness, loyalty, friendliness, courteousness, kindness, obedience, critical thinking, cheerfulness, thriftiness bravery, cleanliness, and reverence.
5. Moving the mental mindset away from egocentrism toward sociocentrism.

Additionally, Scouting helps Northern California’s at-risk youth to develop six critical characteristics of healthy
adolescence: 1. Strong personal values and character
2. Positive sense of self-worth and usefulness. 3. Caring an nurturing relationships with family, friends, and other members in the
community 4. A desire to learn
5. Productive and creative use of time; understanding cause and effect. 6. Social adeptness.
Thank you! With your funding, the Redwood Empire Council can ensure that the youth in our area are able to register with the Boy Scouts of America, have opportunities to attend summer camp, own their own books and gear, and enjoy all of the activities Scouting offers. Your
funding also helps us create more Scout units, and to develop the units into self-sustaining, successful programs.
