Bora Aksu is the demi-couture designer whose signature is the exquisite and the elegant, who faithfully stays true to this seasons after season.Bora Aksu doesn’t set trends; he sets the bar for beauty.

Originally from Turkey, Bora Aksu has been based in London for the last sixteen years. He boldly set up his own label straight after graduating from his MA at london’s prestigious Central Saint Martins, where his final collection was reported as ‘the star of the show’ by the press.

Pieces from the show were bought by Domenico Dolce and Stefan Gabbana as sources of inspiration from their own brand. Aksu is a firm fashion week favourite and a four time NEWGEN recipient. The label has stocklists around

the world, and is especially thriving in Asia

Aksu’s flair is in his finding the balance between the contrasts, always placing a dark and edgy twist on romantic ideas. This consistently comes through in each and every collection by Aksu, particularly so for autumn/winter 2012, which depics a warrior woman with a penchantor the pretty.

Inspired by outsider artist Henry Darger’s life and work, Aksu took pointers from this childlike view of life and played it off with his trademark period aesthetic.

These concepts developed into a collection which explored both the childish and the mature. Youthful and feminie trapeze and tulip dresses formed from layers of feather-light organza in the palest

shades of grey, peach and cream, were paird with sombre and austere dark grey knits, jacket and pencil shirts.Meanwhile, stern and structured military and Victorian influenced tailoring was softened by a sweet peter Pan collar, romantic florals or drenched in eye-poping scarlet and tangerine.

TAKING CUE FROM AN ENCHANTED AND EPIC HENRY DARGER STORY, THE TURKISHBORN DESIGNER COMBINED ROMANTIC DOLL AESTHETIC AND A DARK UNDERTONE IN A DARING COLLECTION.

The styling of A/W ‘12 was sophisticated, the result of a partnership between Aksu and stylist Leith Clark. Aksu’s beautiful baroque florals continued to cascade in delicate lace-work head pieces and knitted into thick, black opaque

hosiery. Completing the look were Aksu’s leather clutch bags, embellished in curling trails of leather tubing, echoing the fluid and shapley silhouettes throughout the collection.
