Cow Herd Basics for Women

Specialist, will discuss milk quality;
explaining the how’s and whys of pathogens
affecting udder health. Get a hands-on look
of an udder to better understand the function
and importance of udder health.
Beef Herd Basics 6:30-8:30 pm— Health &
Management
Denise Schwab, Beef Specialist, will discuss
the annual management calendar, and Dr.
Jennifer Hosch will discuss basic cow herd
health.

management, dystocia, and delivery methods.

Feeds, Forages
Dr. Hugo Ramirez, ISU State Extension Dairy
Specialist, will discuss what makes a quality
TMR and ways to assess the TMR before and
after it’s delivered. Learn how to use simple
tools like the Shaker Box and Koster Moisture
Tester. Women are encouraged to bring a
sample of their farm’s corn silage for
discussion.
Beef Herd Basics 6:30-8:30 pm— Nutrition,
Feed Management
Dr. Hugo Ramirez, ISU State Extension Dairy
Specialist, will discuss making and managing
quality silage. Schwab will discuss feed
budgeting and cost control.
