I can’t overstate the support our community gives to our school, and I take every opportunity to highlight this feature of Booragoon PS. Never has this been more obvious than in the organisation and staging of a range of events for our 50th Anniversary. I was talking to a colleague recently, and casually outlined the multi-tude of activities that have taken place over the course of the year. The response was, “Wow, you guys really know how to do it!” I think we’ve set a new high benchmark for how to commemorate a milestone, and I’m sure others will be
looking to sing from our playbook.
Speaking of community support, our Champion Dads and Mums (and kids) once again did a fantastic job on Sunday at their working bee. A dozen Dads and Mums put their noses to the grindstone to
complete a ‘grounds improvement’ project.
The team:
completed the mudding of the lime-stone blocks wall between the junior
primary play area and the Ramble;
spread the pile of mulch in Nature Play
1 along the back of the tennis courts;
spread the pile of mulch on the oval’s
edge around Nature Play 1;
dug out and prepared the ‘bald’ area in front of the soccer goals on the oval for planting and Dean has since laid new
turf to rejuvenate this area; and
cleaned up and re-planted the canteen herb garden and the Pre-Primary veggie garden beds. The following
photos tell the story………
What a sterling effort, huge thanks to
everyone involved.
LAPATHON – COLOUR RUN
The Lapathon Colour Run is back by popular demand on Friday of the first week back next term (13th Oct). It’s suggested that students wear a white/cream top and old shorts/skirts/slacks. No need to purchase attire especially for the day – most children would have something suitable in their wardrobes. Pre-Primary students are joining the ‘big school’ and participating alongside their older siblings and peers. The afternoon promises to be a
lot of fun.

K INGS PARK EXCURSION - DJILBA BIG DAY OUT
ROOMS 7, 8 AND 10
Kings Park Excursion
We got off the bus with Room 8
and 10 after a long drive. We went
to our tree, got sorted and started
our adventure. First we did
carving. We learnt about all the
symbols that are used to tell
stories and that are used to send
messages to people. We then
made jewellery cuffs out of
nature. We learnt about plants
and how they protect themselves.
Later on we walked over to watch
an Aboriginal fishing dance and we
got to do the Scary dance with
them. Then we wandered over to
do orienteering. We had to hunt
to find as many bright orange tags
as we could. They were scattered
all over Kings Park! We had lunch
and then learnt about the tools
that Aboriginal people used. We
got face painted and got to throw
honkey nuts at a target! I had an
awesome day! I hope we go again.

LIBRARY NEWS Book Week 'Escape to Everywhere' Winners As an incentive to earn points towards their class totals, a colouring competition was held for students in Years 1 to 2, and students in Years 3 to 6 were invited to submit a creative piece based on this year’s Book Week theme ‘Escape to Everywhere.’ The winner of the colouring competition is: Kenzie N. from Room 7 The winners of the creative entry competition were: Bindi B. from Room 12; and Seth S. from Room 10 (see story below). Seth's Winning Entry:
There is a boy named Steven. He goes to Booragoon Primary School, he is eight years old. He walks home by himself every day. He lets himself into his house and bedroom and watches TV until his parents get home at 6:00pm. He is also very bored and lonely. He is bored because he is stuck in his room. Lonely because kids can’t come over. He is also very interested in books. One Monday he walked home and saw builders building. He walked home and wondered what the building would be. Next week on Thursday the building was built and a sign stood in front of it. It said: “Library – Welcome.” He went home and wondered if he should go into the Blue Library. He thought he should so he walked in and there in front of him was a beautiful librarian. She said “Where would you like to escape to?” After a few weeks he had escaped to England to play with David Warner in the Ashes Test; kicked goals for Arse-nal in the EPL; had dinners at Hogwarts; gone through the rabbit hole with Alice; eaten Turkish delight with the White Witch in Narnia; built another 13 stories on a treehouse with Andy and Terry; visited magical lands with Moon-face and Saucepan-Man; and knows the latest password for the Secret Seven. Steven happily discovered he could ‘Escape to Everywhere with Reading’ and he was no longer bored after school!

Your P&C News
Next Meeting Our next P&C meeting is Monday 16 October at 7pm in the staffroom.
A huge thank you to all the parents that came and helped out with the school grounds working bee last Sunday. Thanks to a lot of hard work from our volunteers, the new limestone walls opposite the junior primary classrooms are now nearly complete, the Nature Play 1 Area has been remulched, and the worn turf in front of the soccer goalposts has been removed. A massive effort by all who helped out!
50th Anniversary Cocktail Night – LAST DAYS!! DON’T MISS OUT!!
Many people are leaving the purchase of tickets to the Event of the (Half) Century to the last minute, and the last minute is almost upon us! There won’t be another event like this one until 2067, so come along while you can still ‘kick your heels up‘. The 50th Cocktail Party is going to be an blast……featuring all sorts of 50th memorabilia, a string trio, an amazing singer/songwriter (who is also an ex-student of ours, featured on Triple J across Australia this week), and a local band. All entertainment, canapes and a light meal are included in the price. Please buy your tickets at https://www.trybooking.com/284128 there are no sales at the door. We hope to see you there!
Help Needed! Wireless Hill Farmers Market The Grand Opening of the Wireless Hill Farmers Market is on Sunday 8 October, from 8am-12 noon. The Booragoon Primary P&C has been invited by the Farmers Market organisers to hold a stall at this opening event, which we plan to use as a final promotion to the wider Booragoon community for our 50th Anniversary Cocktail Party (see above!). But ... we need a few volunteers to help make this happen! Please contact Hamish McElwee at [email protected] or on 0434 350 203 if you can spare an hour or two to join us on the morning of 8 October to help set up and man the stall.
Bicycles for Humanity (B4H)
A few of Booragoon Primary’s keen cyclist Dads are supporting Bicycles for Humanity (B4H), a fantastic Perth-base organisation involved in bike donations to Africa. Just one mountain bike can change the lifestyle of a whole family in Africa.
In our surrounding suburbs there are verge collections over the next few months. If anyone sees a mountain bikes that could be fixed up, or has an old bike themselves, please hold onto it before you chuck it out! Our cyclist Dads will be running some events during next term to get the Champion Dads together with the kids - to learn more about recycling, donating to charities and how to do basic maintenance/repairs on their own bicycles – and then send the olds bikes to families that need them!" See the attached the link for more information about B4H and this cause: http://www.b4hwa.com/what-is-b4h/. Please contact Carl on 0424 476 316 for further questions on the topic.
