A message from the Principal…

We have had the privilege this week to see, on multiple occasions, students giving back to our community and also to each other. Our Year 7 students had a very successful Peer Support camp at Cathcart where they worked on peer relationships and supporting each other through the high school years. I want to particularly thank Year 12 for the leadership and support they gave Year 7 as special visitors on Tuesday, as well as Mr Challman, Ms Halprin and Mr Sullivan for making it all possible. Thanks also to Melissa Stone for helping out with the catering at the event.

Our visit to the Army showcase on Wednesday was again another showcase of community looking after each other. I know many of our students took much away from not just seeing the vehicles but also lessons on chainsaw operation and options for enlisting, and we are exceptionally grateful to the men and women who made the day possible. As pleasing was hearing so many students say thank you and the school acknowledging the efforts of these men and women. Thank you to the Food Technology students, ably led by Ms Austin, who provided baked goods on the day.

The importance of community, of looking after each other, is not something that is easily taught in a classroom. The opportunities we have to live these experiences in Bombala should make us the envy of many a large school across the state.

Uniform

As the weather begins to turn we are seeing more students push the boundaries of what is exceptional uniform. We are a uniform school and have expectations that students wear uniform every day. Uniform serves many purposes but amongst the most important is that it allows us to readily identify our students in and out of the school grounds. It is also a reflection of the pride we want everybody to have in our school.

We understand that in some circumstances being in uniform on a daily basis is quite difficult, particularly for our families who are still experiencing the prolonged effects of fire and drought. If there are legitimate reasons for your child to need to be out of uniform please contact us – discretion is assured and helps us to avoid challenging students who might have legitimate reasons for wearing non-uniform, but do not want to damage the reputation or pride of their family. There may also be opportunities for us to support through the provision of additional supplies.

Have a great week,

Jai

REMINDER Students are required to be dressed in full school uniform during school hours.

Uniforms can be purchased from the front office:

Polo Shirt $20.00

Shorts $14.00

Track Pants $21.00

Hoodies $28.00

If you require assistance with uniform please contact the school on

6458 3358.

BOMBALA HIGH NEWS TERM 1 WEEK 4 3

Year 7 Peer Support excursion

On Tuesday Year 7 went out to Cathcart and made the hall their home for the following two days. The students were accompanied by Mr Sullivan, their Year Adviser, Miss Halprin and Mr Challman.

On Tuesday the students took part in numerous wellbeing activities and other getting to know you exercises. During the course of the day they organised and ran their own team building activities as well as participating in well organised and well thought out activities delivered by our Year 12 students.

Later that day Year 7 were set the task of putting together an item for a talent quest to be in the evening. A great deal thought and rehearsal went into their productions with themes ranging from making people laugh to singing and dancing. One act even featured an anti-bullying theme. All the acts were amazing.

Wednesday saw students again working in small groups to problem solve a range of practical tasks which required thinking outside the box to develop solutions to a variety of problems. Students arrived back at school ready for a good night’s sleep.

A big thank you goes to Mel from the canteen for preparing all our meals over the two days ensuring no one went hungry. We commend all students on their behaviour and their willingness to have a go at all the activities. A fantastic time was had by all!
