Celebrating Successes I wanted to take this opportunity to publicly thank all of our school staff for their dedication and hard work across the course of this term to make a smooth and successful start to the school year. Cold and Flu Season

With the change in the weather arriving the cold and flu season will soon be with us. We would ask parents to keep children who are displaying signs of being unwell such as coughs and runny noses at home. If your child develops these symptoms during the day we will contact you to collect them. Thank you for your co-operation in this matter.

HASS

P-2 have been focusing on the different stages of life. They have identified how they have changed from a baby to a child and described how they have changed. Students also identified and ordered different milestones in their life.

3-6 have been focusing on community events that can be celebrated or commemorated. They have also looked at what makes their community important and different from other communities in the local area.

Design and Technology

P-2 have identified what elements need to be in a puppet show. They have described why each element is important and created puppets using different techniques.

3-6 have identified and planted appropriate seeds in the school garden. They had to research which seeds could be planted in an arid area in summer and were healthy to eat. They are also investigating how different food and fibre are produced. Miss Hannah Trudgett

Arts

This term in The Arts, we have been focusing on Visual Arts. In Prep, Year 1 and 2, students have been learning the skill of collage which we have practised using paper tiles to create warm and cool colour hearts. Students have also looked at the work of Alexander Calder, an artist who created pieces using primary colours and collage. Year 3-6 students have been using clay to create fossils and will, in week 10, make a “spirit animal” using air drying clay. This is an animal that possesses some of the same character traits as the students. You can see the pieces created by the students in the classroom. Mrs Sue Anderson

Instrumental Music

Instrumental Music has commenced with a bang for 2021. All students have now selected their instruments and lessons

have commenced. Instrumental lessons will occur once a fortnight on a Wednesday. It is important that students have

all equipment at their lessons. Students will be set homework after each lesson to practise before my next visit, please

assist them to get this practice done. There will be a music camp held in St George in Term 2. Dates will be confirmed by

the end of the Term. This year at Bollon SS we are also trialling a Year 3 Music Emersion program. Our students in Year 3

will be having a group lesson with me on each of my visits. During these lessons we will learn basic music rhythms and

some different instrument. Last visit we started learning Baby Shark on the Ukulele. Mr Todd
