The Bolivar Area Community Foundation will award community grants to local not-for-profit agencies. New chamber board members and officers will be announced.

“The chamber has experienced one of the best and busiest years for our community, chamber andmembers,” Chamber president Jared Taylor said. “Thank you to everyone who worked to make Bolivar a better place to live, work and play. Please make plans to attend this meeting, get acquainted and updated with other members, share what’s going on at your business and learn from our speakers. It’s worth your time.”

The optional lunch is $6. Corporate and executive partners are reminded to use their complimentary meal tickets.

winners from Christmas oPen house Cash in Congratulations to Thelma Cowden, Patsy Smith-Schuepbach, Amy McCallister, Verna Johnson and Makenna Cotter, who each won $100 in Chamber Christmas Cash from the annual Christmas Open House, Nov 8-9. They may purchase items with their Christmas cash at any of the open house businesses and vendors.

Their entries were randomly drawn from more than 5,000 entries in this year’s Christmas Open House and Christmas Open House Showcase. Visitors could enter at each of the nearly 50 participating businesses and two dozen independent sales vendors at the showcase held at the Bolivar Christian Church.

“It was a great turnout and kickoff to the local Christmas shopping season,” Chamber Vice President and event committee chair Bobbie McKnight said. “This event brings shoppers into our community and benefits participating businesses during and after the event. Working together, these businesses attracted thousands of visitors and shoppers to Bolivar. Thank you!”

light the Park kiCks off 16th YearNow in its sixteenth year, Bolivar’s premier annual drive through light display will open Nov. 29 and continue nightly from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Dec. 30 in Dunnegan Memorial Park.

Light displays are provided by area businesses and organizations. There is no charge to drive through the park, but donations are accepted at the gate to benefit local charities.

“A very special thank you goes out to the many organizations and businesses who donate andprovide displays,” Chamber Treasurer and event volunteer Martha Meza said. “Light the Park is a holiday tradition for many families as well as a benefit for so many local causes. It brings literally thousands of visitors to our community to view the lights. It’s valued on many levels.”

Plan ahead: leadershiP training availaBle through leadershiP Bolivar in 2021Plan ahead for the chamber’s bi-annual 12-week leadership development training. The next session will begin in January 2021. Weekly programs give participants a knowledgeable understanding of their community, familiarizes them with community opportunities, needs and resources and better acquaints them with city, county and state government.

Tuition for the course, materials and meals is $300 per person, employed by a chamber member.

“This is a very small investment to make in yourself or an employee,” said Jared Taylor, graduate of Leadership Bolivar. “I grew up in Bolivar but I learned so much more about our community while also gaining some very valuable leadership skills. I highly recommend Leadership Bolivar. It just makes you a better leader, business person and community member.”
