GRAN CANARIA ORIENTEERING MEETING

Gran Canaria - North

From December 27, 2014 to January 4, 2015

Presentation of Gran Canaria O-Meeting

Gran Canaria O-Meeting (G-COM) is a biennial international orienteering

event organized by Limonium Canarias scope, which has extensive experience since

1996.

Our goal is to provide an engaging experience; not only at sports, but also from

the human point of view, the environment and climate.

In this edition have been selected areas near "Arucas" and "Teror" because

they offer the opportunity to enjoy a variety of techniques and routes, as well as enjoy

a climate in winter dates, excellent for practicing the orienteering.

As evidence of the interest in this event in previous years have been fortunate to

receive top class orienteers such as Matthias Müller (world champion) and Olle

Bostrom, among others.

In short, G-COM aims to be a benchmark for the practice of this discipline for

athletes, whether elite, beginners or families of all nationalities during the winter season.

They will share their expertise with local athletes of all ages, not surprisingly, in the

different categories are entered from 10 years to 75.

Why Gran Canaria?

Because of the pleasant climate, the sun, the beach, the large cultural and

leisure offer and a pleasant winter temperatures (the best in Europe).

But not only that, because Gran Canaria have one of the largest and best maps

in pine forest across Europe, a spectacular nature and a sport in rapid technical

progress.

Wellcome to Gran Canaria O-Meeting

prepared for this.

During Day 2 and 3 (O-trainings) will take place at over 1500m above sea-level,

where it is not unusual for temperatures to significantly change and to receive more

rainfall. It is suggested that competitors prepare for all possible weather during Day 2 and

3. Races at Day 5 and Day 6 may have slippery areas.

Due to the urban environment of Day 1 and 4, competitors should display extreme

caution close to roads etc. Competitors must listen to the instructions of the stewards at all

times.

Due to the mountainous environment of Day 2 and 3 competitors should display

extreme caution close to rocky terrain.

TRAVEL AND ACCOMODATION IN GRAN CANARIA

Gran Canaria is easily accessible from most European countries. From the UK and

Ireland: Ryanair, from Norway: Norwegian and from Sweden: SAS. There are also other options

like Skyscanner.

We recommend looking for accommodation in the capital city (Las Palmas de

Gran Canaria), as it is only about a 20 minute drive to the competition areas and has a

wide range of cultural and leisure offer, a beach... Another option for accommodation is

the tourist district in south of the island (Maspalomas ...), about 45 minutes far from the

competition areas, with leisure facilities, theme parks and beautiful beaches.

Finally we recommend renting a car (or carpooling with other racers) to get to

competition areas, since the access by public transport is not easy.

The organization may offer inexpensive accommodation for small groups. You

need to contact in advance to arrange this type of accommodation.
