2019 Board Retreat Evaluation Results (20 responses) Chamber Choices topics with 25% or more “I Don’t Know” or “No” answers:

• Do Candidates for local political office often seek Chamber guidance and advice on business and community issues?

• Does the Chamber have an advocacy alert program in place to “make the phones ring” and turn up the heat” with elected officials?

• Is there a policy platform in place that allows the Chamber to take action and communicate positions quickly?

• Is the Chamber “two steps ahead” of most other groups, because it spends a significant amount of time in horizon scanning?

• Does the Chamber have a Business Retention and Expansion (BR&E) program? • Has the Chamber recently conducted a public opinion poll (either on its own or with

a group) to gather feedback from the community or registered voters on key issues? • Does the Chamber excel at collecting and analyzing feedback from its members (Not

just an annual survey)?

Board Self Evaluation with high “Needs Improvement” or “Ok” answers (all others were excellent):

• I review the Board information prior to each meeting (most “needs improvement” or “2” ratings with “4” being excellent responses, over ½).

• I am always on the lookout for others to “take my place” on the Chamber Board. • I do a good job at getting others engaged with the Chamber. • I do a good job following through on the commitments I make (most “ok” or “3”

ratings with “4” being excellent responses). • I understand the difference between governance and management. • I listen during Board discussions and avoid distractions. • I am accepting of new ideas.

• Enough time given for discussion (five responses with “3” ratings with “4” being excellent).

• The El Dorado Hotel was comfortable and easy to access (three responses with “3”

ratings).

• Five areas had two “3” ratings and six areas had one “3” rating.

• All others were excellent ratings. Comments/suggestions:

• Really enjoyed the ABC activity. Maybe incorporating more team activities in the future will be helpful in relationship building with the Board.

• Need to do more facilitator-less meetings with the Board more often. • Topics were relevant. • More in-depth conversations about diversity and education opportunities. • Want more opportunities to be involved in one of the strat plan areas/task force. • Kudos to staff. • Great retreat.
