“Blyth was just what we needed. My son had been struggling to get a quality education built around his strengths, and that is exactly what he got at Blyth, along with a desire to learn. He was free from distraction and received the attention that fostered his learning.”

Our Unique Model Delivers remarkable results

AVERAGE CLASS SIZE 8 STUDENTS

FOUR TERMS,

EXPERIENTIAL EDUCATION

CREATIVE, CARING

TEACHERS

The Blyth Academy experience is significantly different from other schools.

Our schools are small and intimate. Each has between 70 and 180 students. This allows us to offer truly personalized education across a wide range of courses and interests. When you combine this with great teaching and first-class care, wonderful things can happen.

At Blyth Academy, the school year is divided into four terms. Only two subjects are taught each term. This gives our students the time and freedom to explore subjects in greater depth.

How we teach is just as important. Because every student learns differently, our teachers tailor their approach to each student’s needs and work to immerse him or her in the actual experience of their subject.

The benefits are dramatic and life-long.

After all, is there a better way to really engage students than with a genuine learning experience founded on curiosity, creativity, and innovative thinking?

“My son has been attending Blyth since Grade 9, and it was the best decision we ever made in terms of his education, well-being and happiness. Blyth has made learning something that he actually looks forward to each day. We have watched him blossom from a, struggling and uninterested student into a confident and engaging teenager who participates in the classroom with fellow students and teachers. The best thing Blyth has given to our son is his positive outlook on education and the chance to succeed in whatever venue life takes him. Thank you, Blyth, for making a difference!” - Linda Marquette-Kleiman, Toronto

Blyth Academy has campuses across Ontario—in Toronto’s Yorkville and Lawrence Park, and in Thornhill, Mississauga, Burlington, Barrie, Whitby, Ottawa, Rockland and London. In September 2015, we opened our first U.S. school in

Washington, D.C.—Blyth Templeton Academy. In addition, Blyth Academy Online allows high school students across Canada to take over 50+ of our courses online.

Our teachers are chosen for their empathy, compassion, and ability to connect with students. At Blyth Academy, we also constantly evaluate and review our existing faculty. Because we attract literally thousands of teacher applications every year, we can be highly selective in whom we choose to teach your son or daughter.

Our teachers instruct 15 to 25 students each day in two or three classes. This is an astounding ratio. Our teachers have the time, energy and dedication to devote to the individual

student and to provide extra help before and after class. When asked why they do better at Blyth, our students often reply that they feel a sense of personal respect for—and responsibility to—their teacher.

Each school provides four opportunities a year for parents to meet formally with teachers. These Parent Teacher Evenings are held halfway through each term and provide an opportunity to formally discuss each student’s progress.

What Blyth Offers

Exceptional Teachers

“Many things about Blyth Academy excite me as a parent! The Blyth model delivers education in a tangible and realistic way that helps prepare students for the next steps in both their education and life journey. The community-centric experiences and interactions Blyth uses in its learning environment are part of what makes Blyth stand out from other educational models. This is something I wanted in my daughter’s educational experience, and I believe it helped her reach her full potential and thrive academically in high school.” - Laurel Anderson, Ottawa

Most of our schools offer a comprehensive full-time program beginning in elementary in Grade 6 through to Grade 12. We also provide semi-private, private, summer, and night school classes.

Blyth students can delve more deeply into their subjects and manage their academic workload more effectively. Our classes are longer to provide time to review lessons and assignments in-depth and to get individual attention in each class on every day of the school year.

Another defining difference is that homework assignments are more evenly balanced, so students can avoid ‘crisis points’ where they have work due in many courses all at once.

MIDDLE SCHOOL: GRADES 6 TO 8

The Middle School Program immerses students in an ideal academic setting: very small class sizes, roundtable discussions instead of desk-based lessons, and richly experiential learning opportunities outside the classroom. This structure helps our youngest students gain confidence as they get closer to high school.

THE FOUNDATIONS PROGRAM: GRADES 9 AND 10

Unique to Blyth Academy is our Grade 9 and 10 Foundations Program combining Learning Skills and Leadership courses with a Life Skills component. This program aims to introduce our students to important life skills at an early age and provide them with a well-rounded education. It includes a period every day for hands-on learning of topics such as Financial Literacy, First Aid/CPR, Nutrition / Cooking, Mind / Body Balance and Health, among others. Blyth will invite community leaders and experts in these fields to attend our schools and share their knowledge with our students.

By combining the course materials in learning strategies (Grade 9) and leadership skills (Grade 10), learning is integrated and enriched, allowing our students an unparalleled understanding of the subjects studied.

UNIVERSITY PREPARATION: GRADES 11 AND 12

Before the important and challenging transition from high school to post-secondary, Blyth helps students thrive academically and learn the life skills necessary to succeed in the next phase of their education. Critical thinking, opinion development, interpreting information, problem solving and time management are some of the crucially important skills Blyth teaches students alongside their regular classes. Most importantly, our students take ownership of their education in a way that best prepares them for university and for life beyond school.
