2.1.2 Configure reading/writing of multiple blocks per drawing
It is now possible to work with multiple title blocks within AutoCAD when the drawing
has multiple layouts. Each layout must have a similar title block and the properties can
be different for each layout. An easy user interface can be configured to manage the
property values for each layout in the drawing.
2.1.3 New Assembly Import tool
We have updated our Assembly
Import tool. The tool allows
selection of the assembly to be
imported, followed by wizard
pages to control the import
process and to determine what
data needs to be extracted from
the assembly into the vault
database, for example:
 References
 Title blocks
 Script results to enhance
control during import

2.2 Viewing improvements
It is possible to work with multiple viewers in BlueCielo Meridian Enterprise. Besides
support for AutoVue 2D and 3D, Adobe Reader XI is now supported and the Microsoft
Excel viewer can be used to view .xlsm files.
Out of the box, BlueCielo Meridian Enterprise provides viewing through Oracle AutoVue,
which is the default viewer after setup. The latest version of Oracle AutoVue, 20.2.1,
supports:
 AutoCAD 2013/2014
 Inventor 2013/2014
 SolidWorks 2013
The viewer now supports multiple redline layers. Multiple users can add their own
redline layers to the drawing, which is useful when multiple users need to review the
drawing.
BlueCielo Meridian Enterprise provides rendition support, which means that each
document can have a second file, the rendition. Who sees the rendition or the native file
and when can be controlled in the user interface through role-based security. See also
the What’s New white paper of the BlueCielo Meridian Enterprise 2012 release. Adobe
PDF renditions could already be redlined but it’s now possible to jump to a specific page
within the viewer.
With respect to server-based viewing, extensive tests have been done to optimize the
appropriate settings to increase the overall performance. This is also explained in our
documentation. Next, enhancements have been made with respect to the security when
viewing through the viewer server and the handling of redlines.

2.3 CAD integration enhancements
2.3.1 Shared workspace
More and more, CAD applications are making use of databases to manage the CAD data
across multiple files. Some applications provide a project management shell, for
example, AutoCAD P&ID and AutoCAD Civil 3D. We have introduced a new concept
called shared workspace that is controlled by BlueCielo Meridian Enterprise to improve
the overall engineering process while providing the CAD designer optimum use of the
CAD application.
The shared workspace concept is ideal for CAD applications that allow multi-
user access to files (e.g. Revit or databases) or have complex relationships
not managed by BlueCielo Meridian Enterprise (e.g. AutoCAD Civil 3D). In
addition to local workspace, custom folder types may now be associated
with a network location outside the vault to act as a shared workspace. Files
in progress within the CAD application can be placed in the shared
workspace by redirecting parts of local workspaces.
Existing documents are updated/synchronized:
Manually within the client on regular user operations requiring file
content
Automatically using a server-based tool when the option
Synchronize automatically is enabled
New documents are created:
 Manually within the client
Automatically by the Synchronize workspace command after
new files have been created in the shared folder
Automatically by the server-based tool when the option Allow
Automatic creation of new documents is enabled
The document type that is assigned to automatically created documents is
the first one that matches the configured file extension or the default
document type when specified. Documents are automatically deleted in the
shared workspace when they are deleted by the client.
Note: To use the shared workspace functionality, a separate BlueCielo Meridian
Enterprise server license is required.

2.3.2 Autodesk Revit
Support for Autodesk Revit was first introduced with BlueCielo
Meridian Enterprise 2012. In the new 2013 release, we have extended the support for controlled concurrent engineering by
using Revit worksets in combination with the engineering content management functionality of BlueCielo Meridian
Enterprise. This allows work on modification projects while a central (as-built) master model is available. At the start of
modification projects, the master model is synchronized to the central modification model. Based on worksets, the
modifications can be assigned to a specific modification project in the vault. Other required modifications can be assigned to
another project.
After updating the project model, synchronization of the design to the central model can take place, allowing users to generate
the 2D drawings through sheet sets. The drawings generated
can be controlled through the document workflow. After review and approval, the master model can be synchronized, allowing
all project modifications to be incorporated and as-built
drawings generated through the master sheet set. Optionally, the generated .dwg files can be rendered to Adobe PDF, so Operations & Maintenance is provided with a new
revision of the master documentation.
The combination of the ability to manage the concurrent engineering process within BlueCielo Meridian Enterprise 2013 together with all other building-related information
turns BlueCielo Meridian Enterprise 2013 into a Building Information Management (BIM)
solution.

2.4 Usability improvements
2.4.1 Flexible navigation views
Besides the main Explorer view, user-specific views (navigation views) can be created to
show a filtered subset of the vault for specific groups or
activities, like to-do lists. We have greatly improved their
usability by supporting flexible depth folder structures.
Folders that are empty are not shown in the navigation
view structure, resulting in a folder structure without
empty folders. In addition, documents can appear in
multiple levels in a navigation view. The combination of
these two enhancements makes navigation views ideal for
plant breakdown structures or for replacement of the
Explorer view, which can be disabled per scope.
The use of flexible navigation
views has gained even more
power because the Field-Path
definition is supported in
navigation views. When a file is
dragged and dropped file within
a navigation view, the
properties are automatically
filled in that correspond to the
Field-Path definition, resulting in
automatically entered property
values throughout the structure
of the navigation view.

2.4.2 Notification enhancements
At all kinds of document-related events within the content management process,
notifications can be sent to persons in the organization who have subscribed to the
documents and for the specific events. Subscription can be done by the individual or
someone can do it for their colleagues, for example, based on their role in the
organization. We have made the control over enabling, disabling, and sending the
notifications much more flexible to avoid internal spam and unwanted notification
settings that remain in the system that require manual administration.
Control over when and to whom the notifications
must be sent can now be configured using
VBScript expressions, which also allows more
configurable message content. The reminder
feature (BCReminder.exe tool) has been
extended with the capability to automatically
subscribe groups of users. In a vault’s
configuration, a group can be added to the
notification for a set of documents that are
relevant to them.
Besides creating notification definitions, BlueCielo
Meridian Enterprise now includes an option to
disable notification assignments. Notifications can
be disabled per document type, to only occur for
important documents, or only for specific
document workflow statuses. For each workflow
status, notification can also be disabled
automatically, providing the notifications only
when needed.

2.4.3 Usability enhancements for power users
Documents can have many references, automatically or manually created. The
referenced files are shown in the References dialog box. To reduce the
number of steps to work with referenced documents, the Open in application
command has been added to the shortcut menu. This avoids the step of first
having to go to the document to open the file.
When working with scopes and switching from scope to scope, BlueCielo
Meridian Enterprise 2013 remembers the last selected document per scope.
This enables users to quickly continue their work where they left off.
BlueCielo Meridian Enterprise has always provided the ability to search across
vaults. In the 2013 release, we have enabled this for vaults where scopes are
used.
For vaults that use renditions, the renditions can have redlines too. We have
added an icon to show that the rendition has redlines.

2.5 Improved Web Access
2.5.1 Introduction of frames in web client
In BlueCielo Meridian Enterprise 2012, we introduced multiple windows for the web
client. They could be arranged on the desktop and allowed the user to have an overview
of the folder structure in one window next to viewing the selected document’s metadata
or content within a separate viewer window. We have now made it possible to show the
windows as frames within a single tab of Internet Explorer. The viewer can now be
enabled by clicking the Viewer tab.
2.5.2 Support for static collections
The web client now provides support for static collections.
The collections can be created within the web client, files
can be added to the created collection within the web
client, and the collections can be viewed.

BlueCielo Meridian Enterprise 2013 - What's New | BlueCielo ECM Solutions
2.5.3 Replace Content command has been added
For various reasons, a more up to date version of the
content of a document may be available and should
replace the content in the vault. Replacing content was
already possible within the desktop clients, but in the
2013 release we have added this feature to the web client
too.
2.5.4 Other improvements for web client users
Support for working with batches has been added to workflow actions.
When searching for documents, the search feature now supports routed
properties. Properties that get their values based on the value of other properties can be used when searching for files.
The web client now works with automatic
synchronization of the local workspace.
The Application Integration feature can
be put in Remote mode and documents
are automatically downloaded to the
local workspace. Changes are uploaded
by the regular synchronization process
via HTTP.

2.6 Support for multi-threading
We have introduced an update to the database engine called
Hypertrieve 5. In Hypertrieve 5, multi-threaded read access to
data is provided. This means that multiple cores of 64-bit servers
can read the database simultaneously. This can increase the
number of users and the amount of data that the vault can
support. Overall, this results in a much smoother behavior of
BlueCielo Meridian Enterprise even during very busy periods
when many users are accessing the vault.
Hypertrieve 5 is compatible with Hypertrieve 3 and is optional for
new vaults after upgrading to BlueCielo Meridian Enterprise
2013. Existing vaults can also be upgraded easily. Hypertrieve 5
is currently only available upon request to ensure BlueCielo
supervision. We will monitor the behavior of the vault to gather
practical performance information and to be able to quickly
further optimize the vault at the customer’s request.
2.7 Role-based application management
We have made it possible to split administration tasks from configuration tasks. Because
of this split, BlueCielo Meridian Enterprise application managers can be provided with a
specific set of options to manage the environment. Installations of the Administrator tool
can be created that can only perform user administration or license management for
example. Or for specific installations, the Administrator tool options can be reduced so
that certain application managers can perform certain tasks while others have limited
ability to perform other administrative tasks.
We have added the ability to unlock all local workspace documents for specific users in a
single vault from the shortcut menu.
Security settings can be applied within the
Configurator so that application managers
can be limited to, for example, only
navigation view configuration, only security
privileges, or other areas of vault
configuration.

BlueCielo Meridian Enterprise 2013 - What's New | BlueCielo ECM Solutions
2.8 Configurability enhancements
BlueCielo Meridian Enterprise 2013 includes many enhancements over the 2012 release
to configure the environment. Some of them are listed below. More detailed descriptions
can be found in the release notes and other documentation.
 Additional privileges on commands
 Privileges on rendition property pages
Reuse of properties in the Field-Path definition
 Field-Path definition use in projects
 VBScript events on references
A CurrentPropertyName variable that is accessible from script
 Reading title blocks from script
2.9 New licensing
We have simplified our licensing model. To reduce the confusion and provide much more deployment flexibility, all BlueCielo Meridian clients are now authorized by PowerUser
licenses. One PowerUser license and one database connection license that is necessary
to use it can be purchased as a single license named the BlueCielo Meridian Classic User license (abbreviated to [M] Classic User license).
The impact of introducing the [M] Classic User license is that all licenses are harmonized
and there is always a database connection related to a client license. Both the PowerUser Client license (M—PURxx) and the Enterprise Database License (M—DBLxx)
are required by the license manager, but the PowerUser license immediately claims the database license. In this way, there is always a 1:1 relation between client licenses and
database licenses and because the license codes are backwards compatible, they work with older versions of BlueCielo Meridian Enterprise.
2.10 Documentation updates
The following technical documentation is available for this Meridian Enterprise release:
BlueCielo Meridian Enterprise 2013 – What's New (this document) BlueCielo Meridian Enterprise 2013 Administrator's Guide BlueCielo Meridian Enterprise 2013 Configuration Guide BlueCielo Meridian Enterprise 2013 User's Guide BlueCielo Meridian Enterprise 2013 Developer's Guide

3 BlueCielo Meridian Enterprise 2013 modules
BlueCielo Meridian Enterprise can be used as an Asset Information Management solution
for owner/operators, as well as an Engineering Data Management solution for engineering contractors and equipment suppliers. This is possible through the solution’s
many features, its great flexibility to be configured to specific user requirements, and the availability of modules to address specific business problems. In this chapter, we will
give a brief introduction to the modules, followed by a description of the new possibilities in the 2013 release. Not all modules have yet been released for 2013 but the
latest service pack of the ones listed below work together with BlueCielo Meridian Enterprise 2013:
Asset Management Module 2013 Advanced Project Workflow Module 2013
Email Manager 2013 FDA Module 2013
 Transmittal Management Module 2013
 Explorer 2012 SP4
 Global Collaboration Framework 2012 SP2 Project Portal 2012 SP2
 Publisher 2012 SP4
3.1 Advanced Project Workflow Module
Modifications to engineering content are typically done through modification projects. BlueCielo Meridian Enterprise can be configured to allow quick changes for small plant
modifications but require more extensive adjustments to be done through projects. The Advanced Project Workflow Module enables the management of complex projects and
fully supports the management of change processes by owner/operators that are faced with complying with ever tighter regulations. We have further optimized the control over
modification projects.
The project selection dialog box can now be forced by scripting to appear, which
improves work process consistency in the organization. We have added commands to
the shortcut menu to link and unlink project copies. This allows newly received or
created documents to be linked to a master document or to unlink a project document
from its master to make a variation in design or to correct link errors.
1 7
1 7
BlueCielo Meridian Enterprise 2013 - What's New | BlueCielo ECM Solutions
New in BlueCielo Meridian Enterprise is the use of the Field-
Path definition within projects. It is also supported if the
Advanced Project Workflow Module is not enabled and only
the Managed Change features are used. Project folders are
automatically created by the Field-Path definition and upon
the creation of a new document, all Field-Path definition
properties are automatically filled in up to the folder level
within the project where the document was created. The
same applies when a new file is dragged and dropped into a
folder as well as when copying a master document to a
project folder.
The combination of a Field-Path definition and flexible
navigation views increases the usability of navigation views within projects. From the
preferred view to the project content, users can fully manage the documentation.
3.2 Asset Management Module
The Asset Management Module enables BlueCielo Meridian Enterprise users to expand their engineering content management solution into a full Asset Information
Management system. Based on the unique identification numbers of assets (tag numbers) and functional locations, all related documents are immediately available to
the users. Through tag-document relationships, documents can be found in the Explorer client or through integration with maintenance management systems such as Maximo,
Ultimo, Datastream, SAP PM, or through facility management systems like Famis, Archibus or others.
The Asset Management Module actually consists of two parts: the BlueCielo Meridian
Enterprise client extension and the Meridian Explorer (server and client). For customers who want to use the extension within the Web Access client as well in the desktop client,
a new ASP page version of the extension is installed.
1 8
1 8
BlueCielo Meridian Enterprise 2013 - What's New | BlueCielo ECM Solutions
BlueCielo Meridian Enterprise supports basic functionality within AutoCAD P&ID. When
used with the Asset Management Module, the AutoCAD P&ID link is further extended. In
the 2013 release, we have enhanced managing tags within the vault and their use within
P&ID projects. If objects are
placed within the process &
instrumentation diagram while the
tags are not available yet in the
vault, a placeholder is used. An
export can be performed that
allows the controllers of the tag
numbers to provide the numbers
to other users. When the tag
numbers are available, the
extended tag management
functionality for AutoCAD P&ID
allows updating the placeholders
with the appropriate tag numbers.
In short, the enhanced AutoCAD P&ID link allows you to:
Synchronize drawing tags to and from asset objects in the vault
Synchronize (local or shared) workspace folder structures from the vault
Show the Drawing Tags dialog box in AutoCAD P&ID for easy tag status
review

BlueCielo Meridian Enterprise 2013 - What's New | BlueCielo ECM Solutions
3.3 Meridian Explorer
The Meridian Explorer allows large viewer communities to access released engineering and asset data from the BlueCielo Meridian Enterprise vault by use of the modern web
interface of the Meridian Explorer web client. The client provides an extensive set of search and navigation features that can be configured to meet the requirements of
specific user groups. The data in the Meridian Explorer repository, known as the Enterprise Data Library, also allows the use of common reporting tools like Microsoft
Reporting Services and Crystal Reports since it is stored in standard SQL Server or
Oracle databases.
The data made available to the users can be controlled through configuration of the Meridian Explorer server, which also allows consolidating data from multiple BlueCielo
Meridian vaults into one enterprise repository. Data can also be synchronized to multiple remote Meridian Explorer repositories to provide an improved user experience with local
data centers.
The primary differences between the Meridian Enterprise Data Library and the Meridian Explorer repository are highlighted in the following table.
Meridian Engineering Data Library Meridian Explorer Repository
Free of charge Requires server license
Repository not configurable Repository configurable
One BlueCielo Meridian Enterprise vault Supports multiple BlueCielo Meridian
Enterprise vaults
Metadata resides in the repository, files remain in the vault
Metadata resides in the repository, files in vault or repository, renditions in
repository optional (requires BlueCielo Publisher)
With the support of projects in the Meridian Explorer 2012 release, it has become possible to provide data that has been released for construction to the shop floor and
construction sites. The Feedback page allows the viewers to comment on the design data for quick
update, ensuring project progress and shortened project lead times.
Asset information like tags, functional locations, and
equipment linked to engineering content can be included to provide an asset-centric view on the
engineering content both during the construction phase as well as during operations and maintenance.
This requires extension of the BlueCielo Meridian Enterprise environment with the Asset Management
Module (see above). With an asset-centric Meridian Explorer repository, integration is possible with
maintenance and facility management systems like
IBM Maximo, SAP PM, INFOR (Datastream), FAMIS, and many others.
Meridian Explorer 2013 is not yet available. Some enhancements have been made in
service packs 1 to 4. These service packs have made deployment easier and include improvements to working with the Feedback page. In the latest service pack, support
for the Dutch language is included as well as the latest CAD application versions.

3.4 Email Manager
The Email Manager provides automated importing of
email messages to a vault via configurable rule sets. Email messages and their attachments can be
automatically categorized and stored in the BlueCielo Meridian Enterprise vault.
The Email Manager is compatible with all email
servers that support the common IMAP protocol, for
example, Microsoft Exchange and IBM Lotus Notes.
3.5 FDA Module
The FDA Module adds configurable FDA 21 CFR Part 11 technical controls to the already-
powerful technical document management system of BlueCielo Meridian Enterprise. To manage good manufacturing practices (GMP)-controlled engineering documents, the
module provides features related to:
Enhanced authenticated access control Event audit trail and reporting
Electronic signature support for document & project workflows Electronic signatures can be manifested on Adobe PDF document
renditions Document workflow status email notification and subscription
 Rendition watermarking
In the 2013 release, only small enhancements have been added, for example, in handling renditions, for which we refer to the release notes.
3.6 Global Collaboration Framework
The Global Collaboration Framework allows geographically-separated engineering teams
to establish the seamless exchange of content and global workflow to enable global engineering processes while at the same time retaining their own local working
environments and processes in BlueCielo Meridian Enterprise. The Global Collaboration Framework can also be used to collaborate with external engineering teams,
streamlining outsourcing processes.
The latest version of the Global Collaboration Framework is 2012 SP2. This service pack provides small enhancements and is compatible with BlueCielo Meridian Enterprise 2013.
3.7 Transmittal Management Module
For customers working on complex projects involving suppliers and/or customers, the
Transmittal Management Module offers full control and tracking of what is sent to whom and what is received from whom, as well as when and how it was sent or received. The
module fully integrates with BlueCielo Meridian Enterprise, enabling projects to be executed up to 20% more efficiently and full control over project deliverables can be
proven. Since we are improving our solution offering through the Project Portal (see below) we have only made small enhancements to the Transmittal Management Module
to align it with this release.

3.8 Project Portal
The Project Portal helps companies to execute industrial asset projects with an external
network of suppliers, contractors, authorities, and customers. The portal enables project collaboration and document control for asset data managed in BlueCielo Meridian
Enterprise and new asset data produced during the industrial projects. From standard operational change projects to massive new capital projects, the Project Portal
contributes to lowering project costs and improving data quality.
The Project Portal tightly integrates with BlueCielo Meridian Enterprise allowing direct
collaboration with external parties who have no direct access to the company’s internal network. The portal supports transmittal management and mass data upload as well as
metadata validation during upload. More information about the key capabilities can be found on our website.
3.9 BlueCielo Publisher
BlueCielo Publisher offers the capability to render documents from various source
content management systems and to publish them into the same or another destination system. In the destination system, metadata can be published along with the file
(optionally rendered to a different format). If the properties in the destination system have different names, the properties can be mapped to the property names of the
source system.
We have enhanced the integration with BlueCielo Publisher by providing an extension to
the configuration that turns publishing into a service of the vault.
