Number Talks

1. 2. 21 + 9 = 3.

Optional Extra Challenge

Maths

This week we are learning about the purpose of a compass. Here is a story to enjoy to help us to learn about a compass.

Look at the bottom of this grid for an activity.

For your last week of term, you can choose any topic you want to write about. I chose to write all about ice cream! Our writing focus is enjoyment and fun. There is one tricky challenge though! You have to roll a dice before you write each sentence and include whatever the dice says in your sentence. Keep rolling until you have a paragraph. Please see a sheet attached to this grid for ideas and explanations of each dice instruction.

You can use this online dice if you cannot find one at home. https://www.online-stopwatch.com/chance-games/roll-a-dice/

Your success criteria are below:

Write at least six sentences. Follow the instructions that are on the dice. Include a title and detailed picture to go

alongside your writing.

Listening and Talking

This week we are focusing on contents and the index. You find these in non-fiction books. You can find the contents page at the beginning of the book.

Can you find a book in your house with a contents page? Try and find one. I have found contents pages in my recipe books. Ask someone at home to think of a contents page they have seen recently.

You have a challenge at the bottom of this grid. You can just talk about the answers or you can write them down if you wish.

This week we are going to focus on the 5 senses for mindfulness.

o First, notice something that you can see. Look around you and become aware of your environment. Try to pick out something that you don’t usually notice.

o Second, notice 1 thing you can feel, such as the texture of your clothing or the smooth surface of the table you’re resting your hands on.

o Third, notice 1 thing that you can hear. Listen for and notice things in the background that you don’t normally notice. It could be the birds chirping outside.

o Fourth, notice 1 thing you can smell. It could be the trees outside or some food.

o Finally, notice 1 thing you can taste. Take a sip of a drink, chew gum, or notice the current taste in your mouth.

Writing – Instructions and Ideas

1. Connectives are joining words. Some ideas are:

2. Nouns are naming words (objects and things) and adjectives are describing words. Nouns can also be people.

3. Verbs are doing words, such as dancing, talking, listening, writing, drawing and flying.4. Adverbs describe a doing word, such as happily, gently, loudly, quietly, quickly, slowly, safely

and cheerfully.5. Feelings include surprised, confused, happy, cheerful, brave, cross and sleepy.6. Similes use ‘as’ or ‘like, such as ‘he is as tall as a tree’. A metaphor is a word or a phrase used

to describe something as if it were something else, such as ‘this chilli is fire’. The chilli isn’t really fire, but it tells us it’s really spicy.

P2 children:

As this is the last week of our school year, we are reflecting on our favourite memories from Primary 2 and thanking God for everyone who has helped us to learn

and grow this year.

1. Discuss your favourite memories from Primary 2 with your family. Did you have a favourite lesson? Funniest day? Something you were proud of?

2. Think of 3 special people who have helped you to learn (both in school and at home).

3. Say your favourite prayer to thank God for all your happy school memories.

Memory Jar Activity:

Draw a picture of and / or write down 1 or 2 memories to put inside a memory jar.

You can do this in a jotter or in a real jar!

Please send me a picture of your jar too!
