Twinning Studio @ BIT RAKThe first ever collaborative design programme from the department of Architecture - A Joint Architectural Design Programme was organized from January 20 to February 2, 2016 with Sasi Creative School of Architecture, Coimbatore, India. It was a collaboration of the institute, students and faculty towards professional networking and academic sharing.

“A collaboration crossing national boundaries and leading to cross cultural wisdom.”

The students of both the colleges worked together on a design project. They were grouped together in teams to do research, documentation, data collection, analysis and synthesis and then generate strong and aesthetic design concepts.

A MoU was signed between the reputed institutes.

Thesis CompletionCompetitions are meant to motivate the upcoming talents by providing them with a platform to showcase their best efforts and face challenges in life.

Students of 10th semester Architecture, Zeeshan Azeem Muhammad and Sneha Arvind, participated in the Council of Architecture awards for excellence in Architectural Thesis - 2015, organized by NIASA (National Institute of Advanced Studies in Architecture), Pune, India.

The jury panel consisting of eminent architects appreciated the work of the students from BIT, Ras Al Khaimah.

It has proved to be a respectable opportunity for them to share their Design experiences and also learn from the works of others.

Emirates Schools Karting Championship @ Dubai

Three students from the department of Mechanical Engineering participated in the Emirates Schools Karting Championship at Dubai on February 14, 2016. It was a proud moment for Birla Institute of Technology, Offshore Campus, RAK as we were the only Indian university to have participated in the event. Students displayed an exciting round of karting and finished among the top ten, automatically qualifying for the next round to be held on February 28.

Reverse Engineering of an Air CompressorThe current work was carried out by students and faculty from the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Reverse engineering involves disassembling, analyzing, and studying of the working principle and modifying the design and improving its efficiency. The current work focuses on integrating two single cylinder air compressors into one with improved performance and operating efficiency. The highlight of the work has been a significant reduction of nearly 30% in the overall cost.

Solar Powered Thermoelectric RefrigerationThe essential use of thermoelectric systems has been in portable refrigerators, water coolers, cooling of scientific apparatus used in space exploration, and in aircraft. The main advantage of this system is that there are no moving parts. Therefore, the system is compact, quiet, and needs little service. The proposed project work done by the students of final year Diploma in Mechanical Engineering was to demonstrate and implement the usage of solar heat energy for the thermoelectric refrigeration through stored electrical energy from the battery. The first stage of the project had been accomplished through the usage of existing solar energy setup at the college. The final stage work is proposed to develop a more compact self-contained cooler working on the principal of conversion of low grade solar heat energy to the refrigeration effect.
