OPERATION STEM fOr grAdes 4-7!

HIGH TOUCH HIGH TECH / SCIENCE MADE FUN!Science summer camp programs are geared for the kindergartener through sixth grade camper and provide fun and safe science activities for children that will keep their minds active during the summer months. Your inquisitive campers will enjoy, “Doing science, not viewing science”, as they participate in hands-on science experiences that are age and academically ap-propriate. High Touch High Tech scientists are trained to foster a creative and non-competitive environment in which all camp-ers are encouraged to share their knowledge and ideas while interacting with their peers in our summer camp programs. All materials are included and many programs provide take home experiments. Each of your campers will be recognized for their contributions and accomplishments by receiving a science certificate of participation. Our enriching science summer camp activities provide inspiring experiences and opportunities for the curious camper to investigate a wide variety of science topics in ways that will be both meaningful and memorable.

Come and be an active participant with the BEST TEACHER IN THE NATION in Operation STEM 2019 at Seaholm High School. Students will carry out investigations and engineering design projects related to core ideas in the disciplines of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. GAME CRAZY

Grade levels refer to grade entering in fall 2019, unless

otherwise specified.

ROBOTICS CAMP (Ages 5-13)AGES 5-8: Does your child love to play soccer? Now, using Game Crazy’s LEGO robots, your kids can build out all the components of a soccer game and play LEGO soccer match-es against other kids! On the first day, kids will learn how to build and program a kicker and goalie robot using axels, le-vers, wheels and more. In subsequent days, they will build cheering fans who will jump up and down and make cheering sounds when the ball passes by them by making use of mo-tion sensors and more. Using simple drag and drop program-ming, kids will learn to bring these robots to life and put them together to play soccer matches while learning to keep score, work in teams and much more. Highly fun and educational LEGO camp for your little soccer player. AGES 9-13: Using LEGO NXT Robots, we transport kids to a far off planet where they build autonomous robots to make the planet habitable by humans. Young campers learn to build and program these robots to navigate challenging terrain and carry out various complex missions like excavating lake wa-ter, transporting rocks and more. In the process, campers will learn Science, Technology, Engineering and Math concepts in a “minds-on hands-on” environment. Campers will use a variety of sensors like sound sensors, ultrasonic sensors, color sensors and touch sensors to make their robots self- aware. Using an easy to learn drag and drop programming, campers will learn to make their robots autonomous. Will your child be able to solve the missions that await? This is one camp that your child will not want to miss out on! Campers should bring a snack and water bottle. Presented by Game Crazy. Location Seaholm High School, Rm C104Ages 5-13 13731 M-F June 17-21 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM $150Ages 5-13 13730 M-F August 12-16 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM $150

Injuries and Personal Property Damage and Loss

We are frequently asked: “Are my children or am I in-sured by Birmingham Public Schools in the event of in-jury while participating in a school district program?” A follow-up question is: “Does the district have insurance to protect personal property that I or my children may bring to school?” The answer is “no.” BPS does not provide in-surance for injuries, damage, or loss of property. A State of Michigan statute grants the Birmingham Public School District and other public bodies (e.g., cities, villages, etc.) with immunity to tort liability. What this means is that be-cause we are a public agency funded through tax dollars and we are providing a public service, we are not held li-able in the event of injury or loss of property. The Board of Education has decided that the district should not use tax-payers’ tax dollars to provide for these risks. Your home-owner’s policy may cover property damaged or lost from the school premises (e.g., automobiles, bicycles, band instruments, calculators, etc.) WE ENCOURAGE YOU TO MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE ADEQUATE HEALTH AND PROPERTY DAMAGE/LOSS INSURANCE COV-ERAGE.

PLEASE NOTE: WE CANNOT ACCOMMODATE GUESTS.
