Biotin Interference in the Siemens Centaur TnI Assays

Effective June 1st, 2016 Providence Health & Services Oregon Laboratories will be including the following comment in the Siemens Centaur TnI assays:

“Excessive Biotin may affect TnI results. Serial monitoring is not affected. Contact Client Services at 503-215-6660, if there are any questions.”

In a recent communication, Siemens Healthcare Laboratory Diagnostics informed us that Biotin causes an increase in the Centaur TnI assay as shown in the table below.

The ability of the TnI assay to detect serial increases is not affected by the biotin interference since the bias is proportionate across TnI concentrations. Siemens has declared that they are actively investigating the root cause of this issue and looking for solutions on a new formulation of reagent.
