Public Affairs Student Events Assistant
Are you detail-‐oriented? Do you enjoy organizing events? Have you ever successfully planned an event for a large group of people? Can you embrace technology to assist in the execution of events? The BIO5 Institute (BIO5.org) is a collaborative scientific research enterprise on campus that combines ‘5’ unique academic disciplines to promote the discovery of bold solutions to some of today’s most prominent biological challenges. We’re looking for an exceptional student to join our Public Affairs team as an Events Assistant. This is a professional position that will be an excellent resume-‐building experience for the right person. You will learn a lot, work hard, and have fun as part of a motivated, creative team. Students play a key role here, and have the exciting opportunity to learn about and promote the meaningful impact of BIO5 research to the public. The Student Events Assistant will work directly with the Manager of Marketing and Events to coordinate BIO5 events and tour activities with responsibilities to include working with vendors in catering and event set-‐up, arranging venues, coordinating registration, maintaining event website content, assisting with event promotion and metric reporting, and leading tours. Requirements: - Excellent verbal and written communications skills - Ability to confidently and professionally interact with University faculty, researchers,
community VIP’s, and senior staff - Outstanding work ethic and character - Must want to learn and work hard – this is a professional position - Ability to be resourceful, ask questions, and work independently and as part of a team - Ability to show initiative and be a self-‐starter - Punctual and responsible - Ability to thrive in a busy environment with constant activity and multiple projects - Willingness to make active contributions to team meetings and department objectives - Flexibility in schedule to accommodate some after hours events - Must have reliable transportation
This position involves: - Approximately 20-‐25 hours/week, normally between the hours of 8:00am and 5:00pm,
Monday-‐Friday - Flexible schedule, with occasional weekend or evening hours
