FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESKR U OK?Today is R U OK? Day and all our students are looking spectacular in their bright colours that they chose to wear to signify the event. Today our students enjoyed a morning tea with pancakes, bananas, jam and maple syrup. We were all able to come together across the school and take the time to check in with each other. Throughout the day students will have participated in activities that assist in raising awareness about mental health and how to start a conversation with someone that may be doing it a bit tough. These skills are highly important for all of our students at every age. In our community everyone is so tough and many people fight their own battles by themselves. Who knows what the impact may be if we never asked our mates the simple question - R U OK? Thank you to Hayeon our Social Worker in School who has organised this event along with the assistance of Mrs Boyle.

STUDENT SUCCESSWe love seeing our students succeed at Bingara Central School. Congratulations to Ruby Miller who has been awarded a credit in the ICAS English competition. Throughout the assessment she was able to demonstrate a deep and thorough level of knowledge which has placed Ruby in the top 25% of Australia in this subject.
COVID-19 SAFEThis week the Department of Education has released a COVID-19 safe expectations of students document which will provide our HSC students with an understanding of the arrangements that will be put in place when attending their HSC examinations. These procedures have been developed to support the safety and wellbeing of our students and staff during the examination period. These expectations will be discussed with the HSC cohort over the coming week. Please see the attached document for further details.
VISIBLE LEARNINGAs a part of our Visible Learning project at Bingara Central School Miss Schmidt and myself have this week been talking with a range of randomly selected students about their progress in their learning and how they know that they are progressing in identified subjects. We spoke with students from all year groups and it was great to hear their thoughts which gave us an insight into their learning. Next week we will be looking at the Visible Teaching and Leading strand. The focus again will be on our students, however, we will be gathering information on what learning practices they are implementing within the classroom. INFANTS ATHLETICS CARNIVALNext week on Friday 18 September the Infants Athletics Carnival will be held. This is very exciting for K-2 as they have already seen the older students a couple of weeks ago participate in the Thomson Cup. For our Kindergarten students this will be the first time that they will get to wear the colours and represent their house, whether it be Laver, Bradman or Fraser. Unfortunately we cannot have parents on site for this special event however, we will make sure that we get as many photos as we can to share with you.
PREMIERS DEBATING CHALLENGE SUCCESS
Congratulations to our Stage 3 Debating Team on their second round win against a very strong Bundarra Central team! The topic of today’s debate was ‘All Year 5/6 children should cook dinner for their families once a week.’ Bingara were the Negative team and presented some very well thought out arguments on a rather tricky topic. Well done Barnaby, Zoe, Izabella and Ellé-Grace.

NO birthday cakes
YES sealed packet
a friendly reminder...NO BIRTHDAY CAKES AT SCHOOL
Living in the current COVID-19 environment has meant that we all have made adjustments to our day to day lives and practices. At school, we have made changes in the way we interact and limit contact to help stop the spread of Coronavirus. While we would normally allow parents to bring birthday cakes, cupcakes and donuts to class to celebrate a child’s birthday, we cannot currently allow this to occur under the Department of Education health and safety regulations for students and staff. While we understand this may be upsetting, we must all work together to limit opportunities for the virus to spread. We suggest that instead of a cake you send in a sealed packet of lollies to share with the class.
BIKE AND SCOOTER RIDERSWEAR A HELMET OR DO NOT RIDEIt has been brought to our attention that a number of students have been riding their bicycles and scooters to school without a helmet. Please make sure that if your child is going to ride to school they wear a helmet. In NSW, failure to wear a helmet can incur a $344 on the spot fine.
SCHOOL CANTEEN A reminder that the school canteen is CLOSED ON TUESDAYS. Canteen days of operation are: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Fridays.
PLEASE BRING A WATER BOTTLE TO SCHOOL
Due to Department of Education COVID-19 restrictions in place at school, students are not able to drink from the bubblers. Students are remindered that they need to bring a water bottle to school. They are able to refill their water bottles at the bubblers if required.
