If you happen to be leaving next year but have not yet notified any staff member, please notify the office as soon as possible. Accurate enrolment numbers play a vital role in the formation of classes and the allocation of staffing. Thank you for your assistance in this matter.

Please note that in the event of inclement weather on Presentation Day (Wednesday 7th December), this day will serve as our ‘back up’ Presentation Day. A PROGRAM FOR PRESENTATION DAY WAS SENT HOME LAST FRIDAY.

Salvation Army Christmas Fundraiser The Salvation Army provides Christmas hampers and gifts to needy families within the Hawkesbury community each year as part of a national Christmas appeal. The Salvation Army prefer to give grocery gift cards for clients to have the opportunity to purchase their own Christmas items as they feel that this allows for more dignity to those in need. This year we have attached to the newsletter an envelope for each family to make a donation if they wish, to this worthy charity. Please return your envelope to the school office by Friday 9th December, 2016. Your donation will be much appreciated by needy Hawkesbury families.

Thank You Many thanks to Tony Noonan for his kind donation of pelargoniums which will be planted in our gardens to beautify our grounds.

CLASS NEWS

KINDERGARTEN/YEAR 1 - Mrs Oram and Mrs McCloy

K/1 will be completing their Term 4 assessment tasks this week for English and Maths, this will involve lots of 1:1 work with Mrs Oram and Mrs McCloy. We will still be having normal lessons in the following weeks, however as swim school is starting next week, there will not be as much class time. During swim school, we will have reading groups at these times: Monday 9.45am, Tuesday 11.45am, Thursday 9.45am, Friday 10.30am and maths lessons after recess.

Maths homework for Year 1 this week is Unit 31 and next week is Unit 32. Please do not worry if your child is not up to these units, they can continue working in their books until they have finished and bring them to me for marking each week.

CLASS 2/3 - Mrs Mackie Students have been doing a fabulous job with their prepared speeches. The last speech that was placed in the Homework Outline will be completed in class instead of at home so that students can focus on completing their Australian Habitat Dioramas which are due

next week. If you haven’t already sent your Swimming Scheme notes to school, please kindly return them before the end of this week. Week 8 will be the last week of Homework for this year. Our last parent assembly will take place on Monday 28th November at 10.00am. This will be the last assembly for Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum awards for the year. It is hard to believe this year is nearly over! It has gone so fast and all of the boys and girls have grown so much physically as well as emotionally. There is still much to do in the last 5 weeks we have left!

CLASS 4/5/6 - Mr Hynds Our 3 week reading rotation is in its final week before students commence a new reader next week. We welcome any parents who would like to assist in listening to groups read on a Monday and Tuesday at 10.45am and on Wednesday at 12.00pm. This week we will finalise mathematics assessment activities with concepts in Measurement. We will also be revising some areas of Number and Space. In Writing students have been completing some assessment tasks, focusing on accurate spelling, punctuation and well-structured sentences in their self-editing. In pairs we are also creating a design brief for a product created using a piece of foam. As part of this task the class has also been examining the persuasive techniques used in printed advertising. They will be using these techniques to create a matching ad for the finished product and explain in a short oral presentation which techniques they chose and why. Students have a compulsory information report due for an oral presentation this week or next week. It is an assessment task for Speaking and Listening. We will glue the task sheet everyone has received into homework books for parents to peruse. They will have time to complete some of the research at school, but will need to do some preparation and practice at home. A reminder that Year 6 students need to gather together some home photos of themselves to bring in on a memory stick. They will be used as part of their memories book they will be creating for the Year 6 Farewell activities. Year 5 students who are interested in standing for leadership positions in 2017 will bring home information regarding their responsibilities involved and can start to prepare their speeches to be handed in.
