Bike MS Safety RulesBike MS Safety RulesBike MS follows all California Vehicle/Bike Code
laws and include the following rules:1. Wear a helmet – NO EXCEPTIONS!2. No headphones or ear buds allowed.3. Obey all traffic signs and signals.4. Pass only on the left. 5. Never ride more than 2 abreast so that cars and
other cyclists can pass safely.6. Use hand signals when slowing, stopping or
turning.7. Always cycle with traffic.
Rider ResponsibilitiesRider Responsibilities» Always ride as far right as safely
possible. This will allow faster riders to safely pass you on the left without going into the traffic lane.
» Pedestrians always have the right of way.
» When passing parked cars, watch for car doors swinging open. Warn riders behind you if notice movement in parked cars.

» Provide a “head’s up” for the riders behind you

» Keep your head up, look down the road past the rider in front of you
» Maintain a steady speed and predictable line » Do not ride too close to other riders and never
overlap your front wheel with the rear wheel of the rider in front of you
» Adjust your safety zone to the current road conditions

we will ride the Tour rain or shine!
» Braking – leave more space» Slick Surfaces – when turning, avoid
painted areas & metal road covers» Expect more flat tires
Assistance on the RouteAssistance on the Route» Rest Stops have Bike Mechanics &
Medical support » Ride Marshals on the route. They can
assist with flat tires, minor repairs, and call for medical or SAG support if needed
» SAG vehicles & motorcycles» Take off your helmet when in need of
assistance
Hot SpotsHot Spots» Bike trail into Trestles – Ride slowly &
watch for pedestrian traffic with surfboards and dogs
» San Onofre Campground – 15mph limit & stay to the right. Watch for pedestrians and parking vehicles
» Camp Pendleton – The Marines require SINGLE FILE SINGLE FILE riding on the baseriding on the base

A – Air proper inflation, tire wear, loose spokes
B – Brakes brake cable tightness, brake pads
C – Chain, Cranks, Cassette Lube chain, fluid gear shifting, worn gears
Quick Check quick releases tight, warped rims, frame fatigue, bolts tight
