CHAGAS NO MORE
Doña Avelina and her family of 7 lives in Mizque, Bolivia, engaged in agricultural work. Through a local church pastor, she learned about the dangers of Chagas disease, spread through the bite of the vinchuca insect which lives in adobe roofs and walls of typical Bolivian homes. The disease attacks a person’s internal organs, and eventually the heart. Through this pastor, Doña Avelina was able to receive help in the form of construction material (plaster & cement) to finally protect her house, as well as a group of volunteers from Sinahí Church in Cochabamba who helped to do the work for the family, something she would not have been able to accomplish on her own. She was so grateful and was encouraged to continue striving for her family. Being a widow for the past 10 years, Doña Avelina has been in charge of 12 children of whom remain with her four, along with two granddaughters. Her daughter, Liceria, has a disability which has prevented her from being able to enter school and to do many things, but all her children are able to study and try to finish high school with the help and support that is provided through CBM’s programs.
The Project for Prevention against Chagas is very important in preventing more people from getting infected with this disease, as education has helped in prevention and offering a cure for the illness which continues to hit the most vulnerable population, who cannot normally afford cement and brick homes.
Thank you for your continued support in bringing hope to the lives of so many in need.

LETTER TO CONGREGATION - S.T.E.P. RENEWAL – APRIL 2017
In the Spring of 2014, we at Kingsville Baptist entered into another 3-year relationship
with Canadian Baptist Ministries (CBM) and the Bolivia Baptist Union (UBB) under the
STEP program (Serving, Training, Energizing Partnerships). We committed to support
the mission work of Canadian and Bolivian Baptists by sending $10,000 each year for 3
years. The highlight of this STEP relationship came in May 2016, when 12 people from
our church traveled to Bolivia to see some of the work first hand and to further develop
the partnership with our dear brothers and sisters in Christ, in Cochabamba, Mizque area,
and La Paz. This year 2017 completes the contract between CBM, UBB and Kingsville
Baptist Church.
We are now, as your Missions team, proposing that our congregation renew the STEP
relationship for 3 more years: 2017 - 2020. We have been directly involved with many
Bolivian Baptists since 2011. It is our conviction to continue to engage with another
culture in the name of Jesus, and build on those relationships we have established over
the 6 years and 2 short-term mission trips.
For several months we have experienced friends and co-workers in Bolivia regularly
corresponding with individuals from our church through e-mails, texts, and Skype. It is
very exciting to receive reports and testimonies from Bolivians and CBM missionaries as
they practice “integral mission”, proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ, and watch
others joining God to do His will here on earth.
We will be required to support the work in Bolivia by maintaining our $10,000 per year
contribution, and will be asked to send at least one more team to visit this beautiful
country.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to talk to Pastor Jim, or any other
members of the Missions Team. We will be holding a vote on June 4th, at which time the
congregation will decide whether or not to affirm this decision to renew.
We thank you on behalf of the Missions Team and our STEP partners for your support,
and hope that we can continue as a STEP church for 2017 to 2020.
God Calls Us To Follow And Live The Way Of Jesus In This World . . . God bless you
and guide you as you pray about this important decision and step.
Grace & Peace,
The Missions Team: Heather Adragna, Rev. Jim Bagley, Bernice Boose, Freda Brown,
Deb Cowell, Tara Karbowski, Ruth Anne Setterington and Rob Tavares
