Best Illusions of 2007 Contest Winners - Mighty Optical Illusions http://www.moillusions.com/2007/05/best-illusions-of-2007-contest-win... 1 of 5 7/13/2007 7:40 PM Best Illusions of 2007 Contest Winners May 31, 2007 by Vurdlak | Email This Post Can't believe I almost missed covering this story! Reminded by Pablo Speciale, here are some best voted illusions for 2007. The contest is held every year by neauralcorrelate.com, and each year they choose top ten illusions from thousands of submissions. If you remember I covered 2006 winner here. I just believe winner illusion would be much more interesting if they were aware of our little community and all of our user submissions. Not to bother you more with unnecessary talk, here are some of them I included in this post. The winner is "Leaning Tower Illusion" you see below. Is it only me, or is the winner exact replica of Pablo Salto-Weis Azevedo's "Photoshop CS3 Illusion"? Pablo, if they took your idea you should sue! I included few more flash animation winners after the jump, since they are something new on this site, but to see rest, I recommend you check the contest website. Following is the description for winnig submission: "Two images of the Leaning Tower of Pisa below are identical, yet one has the impression that the tower on the right leans more, as if photographed from a different angle. The reason for this phenomenon is because the visual system treats the two images as if part of a single scene". Which one is your favorite? Just to remind you, I added top list for link exchange, and since its new, your link can easily appear on our main page, and we'll send you back huge traffic. You only have to place link titled "Optical Illusions" on your website (or "Illusions" or "Magic Tricks"), link it to www.moillusions.com and apply on "Your link here" in sidebar. As soon as you send few visitors, your link will show up in the top list. If you send more than 10, it should appear on the main page. Top 15 links appear site-wide in our sidebar, on main-page and over 1000 sub-pages (visited by more than 30,000 visitors daily!). Enjoy! I don't get the second one.....

What is the actual aim of that illusion?? Is it to do with the triangle in the middle???

The rest are pretty cool btw!

1.

Neat-Nit

I think the one you didn't understand is the 3rd... I'm not sure, but I think it givesyou the illusion of 3D.

2.

cNicky

The second one if you look carefully the triangle is a piramid

Very cool

I'm not trying to be negative, but I'm just not sure how any of these won.

I've seen much better on this site. Oh well…I guess it's just a matter of opinion.

4.

Max Star

the third one, if you stare at in , gives the illusion that the lines are moving whenthey are staying still.

5.

Anonymous

En el segundo se parece que se mueven las cosas.En el tercero ni idea.

In the Second the "things" move.

In the Third, i dont know...

6.

Texas

The towers actually have a hidden illusion (actually an effect). Open the picture setin a new window and cross your eyes slightly until a third image appears. Look atthe middle and you get a 3D image. This is due to the combined aspects of the two.Try this at home for a few laughs.

7.

Anonymous

if u look at the second one closly, and look at one spacific object, the others apearto move...trippy huh?

8.

Chris

The animations were mesmorizing, but the dual towers--- That was just sheerelegance, a beautifully executed illusion with no trickery whatsoever except for thedistortion read into it by the viewer's mind.

This is the best illusion I've seen here yet!

9.

amanda

if u look at the second one and focus on one of the objects, the others appear tomove, trippy huh?

10.

Shannon

ummm... what?

Yeah indeed, i agree completely! It are good illusisions (the second and the fourthare cool to me).

Go vUrDlAk! & and all the submitters! You guys let me smile every day again whenI am tricked by the illusion...

the tower one is cool!! if you cross your eyes and let them relax the third tower (inthe middle) is 3d. this is the same concept that is used in eye exercises, to improveyour vision. So looking at this one is healthy for your eyes.

I don't get any of these illusions. They should tell you what the illusions are. I don'tunderstand them. By the way the Miami Dolphins Rock!

14.

The triangle in the middle is supposed to look like its coming out...when in realityits just the two different shades moving up and down. The leaning tower is reallycool.

15.

FARBEYONDM3TAL

I think those are awesome. The second is my favorite. I don't see what the 3rd and5th do though.

And the leaning tower one is awesome too. At first I thought they were twodifferent pictures.

16.

Anonymous

I am at loss on the brain illusion. Any explanations??

17.

Anonymous

Kool!!

18.

Max

The leaning tower one is way cool! I've never seen an illusion quite like that.

19.

chris

the two towers are same as the 3d stereo pictures that you used to get in the late80's early 90's. if you cross your eyes slightly til you get a third image in themiddle, the middle image appears in 3D due to your brain overlaying the images. istill think its cool though

20.

Anonymous

The two towers are a trick, as in, a fraud. They are slightly different images. Icompared them in Photoshop using a difference filter and they are not the sameimage. Try it yourself if you don't believe me.

21.

chris

To the poster who said the "towers" illusion was a fraud: It's not.

A simple proof that is not is to take *either* tower image, copy it, and put it nextto its original. You get the same effect.

Try it.
