CANTEEN IS NOT OPEN ON TUESDAYS

ATHLETICS CARNIVAL Weren’t we lucky with the weather? What a beautiful autumn day we had for our annual school athletics carnival yesterday.

Thanks are due to Nick Pryor and all staff for the great work they all did to ensure that the day was successful. In saying that, it should be mentioned that all our Year3-6 students who participated really appreciated having our Year Prep-2 children visit during the day to provide encouragement. We had a lot of parents and friends attend during the carnival and that was also greatly appreciated – many thanks.

Our PFA are also to be congratulated for the outstanding new House Flags that they have purchased for our school. They are truly stunning – we will be displaying them at Monday’s assembly.

Congratulations are the order of the day for our athletics carnival – I noted the great sportsmanship evident during the day – well done kids, that is very important.

Our winning House this year is CASEY – congratulations!

THANK YOU FOR BEING ON TIME

I was really impressed with the huge drop in children who were late to Monday morning assembly this week. I set a challenge for everyone a fortnight ago, given that we had over 80 children late to assembly – improve by this week or I will reintroduce the late book at Monday assemblies. I’m really glad, kids, that I don’t have to do that. Keep it up.

MONITORING MAIN CAR PARK

Bruce Cusack, our maintenance officer has been patrolling our main car park as often as he can since I last wrote on this topic – you may have noticed that the gates to the main car park are often closed before school, with Bruce in

attendance. If you have an authorised reason for using the main car park, Bruce will let you in. Just have your authorisation card visible. Thank you for your cooperation with this.

ASS I STANT PR INCIPALS ’ REPORT

CHANGE OF DATE FOR PUPIL FREE DAY TERM 2 On Monday School Council will be considering a change of date for the Pupil Free Day in Term 2. In our calendar we have indicated that Friday 10th June would be the Pupil Free Day allocated for Report Writing. However, this date clashes with our Year 5 and 6 camp arrangements and therefore we are proposing to change this day to Tuesday 14th June which will follow the Queen’s Birthday long weekend. Through the newsletter we will confirm this change of date next week.

TRAFFIC INFORMATION This week the City of Casey School Crossing Unit has forwarded us some information about road signs located in school zones and clarified the purpose of these signs. They have also requested that we remind families that it is an offence to double park near a school, therefore you cannot legally pull up next to parked cars and let children in or out of your vehicle. We would also like to alert families that both the local by-laws officer and the police regularly monitor the area around our school targeting speeding drivers and cars which are illegally parked. The safety of our children is paramount in our concerns and this is the reason behind the support received from these authorities.

EARLY LEARNING EXPO – WEDNESDAY 30TH MARCH Families are reminded that the annual Early Learning Expo will be held on Wednesday 30th March from 4:30 to 7:00PM. This year the expo will be held at the Akoonah Park Function Centre located on Princes Highway Berwick. This expo is for families with preschool children who are seeking information regarding schooling options available in the Berwick area. A flyer advertising the expo is included in today’s newsletter and we would appreciate this information being passed on to any interested family friends or neighbours.

CRE CLASSES Parents of children in Years Prep to 4 are reminded that if their children are not currently attending CRE, there is the opportunity for them to join these classes commencing at the beginning of Term 2. If parents are interested in taking advantage of this they should contact the office for the appropriate forms which need to be completed and returned with payment by Friday 1st April.

TEACHING CONFIDENCE

Things to Say to Encourage Confident Behaviour

When you catch someone behaving confidently, say:

“That took confidence”

“You really stood up for what you believed”

“That wasn’t easy to do, but you did it.”

“Look at how far you have come.”

“Wow, I can’t believe you did that.”

“You are not afraid to do things differently.”

“You can do it!”

“All along, I knew you could do it.”

“I know that was challenging or difficult for you, but you did it.”

“You had a really confident voice when you spoke in class.”

“You tried and were not afraid of making a mistake.”

SCHOOL AWARDS Congratulations to the following students who received awards over

the last week:

40km/h sign - All school speed limits across the State are clearly signposted. Look out for the speed signs near schools

and slow down to improve safety for children.

Children Crossing - When the flags are displayed at a children’s crossing, you must stop for pedestrians who are waiting to

cross or who have started crossing. You must remain stopped until the crossing is clear. These rules apply even if there is no

crossing supervisor.

No Parking - It is important that you don’t park in any area where this sign is displayed.

No Stopping - No stopping means you must not stop at the kerb for any reason.

WARNING SIGNS

City of Casey School Crossing Unit would like to remind all drivers of the following signs which are often located around schools and nearby.

We will be closely monitoring the habits of drivers over the coming months. We would also like to remind you it is an offence to double park near a school. This means you

can not legally pull up next to parked cars and let children in or out of the vehicle. We thank you for your co operation

It’s the safety of the children that really matters

Kids - ’Go for your life’

For healthy bodies and teeth, children need to

drink water and limit sweet drinks. Reduce

sweet drinks including fruit juice and fruit

drinks, soft drinks, flavoured mineral water,

cordials, sports drinks, energy drinks and flavoured milk.

Tips to help your family drink more water everyday:

Keep a jug of fresh water in the fridge.

Provide water for family and friends with meals and snacks.

Teach children to help themselves to water, but ensure they ask

for other drinks.

Provide a eater bottle for your child for school, kindergarten, child

care and physical activity.

Make water available to everyone on family outings.

A glass of unflavoured, low fat milk can be a healthy drink to

protect teeth for your children over two years old.

Children don’t need sweet drinks. If you do buy sweet drinks, limit

to a small glass and less than 1 to 2 times a week
