Thankfully we are in the third week of August, the hottest
month of the year here in Spain and this last weekend we
have had cooler temperatures in fact in some areas the mid-
dle 20's seemed remarkably cool and a massive difference
from the mid 30's of the week before. For the thousands of
holiday makers here in the Costa Blanca the clouds in the
sky and a touch of rain wasn't on their wish list so under-
standably there was much disappointment for the beach
lovers and sun worshipers. For many residents it's been a
time to slow down and take a break, I was among thousands
of British travellers going in the opposite direction during the
recent weeks. Back to the UK for a catch up and a taste of
the very unusual sunny and warm weather. Many parts of the
UK have been drenched in sunshine a good run without rain
but of course it is now seeing a change and possibly the fun
is all over... well for sure it's going to be back to normal very
soon and that's when coming to the Costa Blanca really does
give us the edge. September is on the horizon and the foot-
ball season is already back on. YIPEEE!... for me it's like a
duck out of water without football and the World Cup being
such a disappointment for most we are jumping with joy to
see the best league in the world kick off last weekend. Not
only that the Cricket just isn't the same although I have had
the odd moment to see England actually winning a test
match so it helped gain some interest. I did mention in issue
41 the good news for our readers is that in September we
have some exciting plans so keep picking up the Weekly

Dear Readers...

Benidorm is on the front foot
and is leading the way into the
digital world, Telifonica have
collaberated with the City of
Benidorm to provide small cell
antennas in Benidorm, these
antennas will provide the abil-
ity to speed up your data con-
nection on your mobile
devices. This new pioneering
technology provides excellent
wireless coverage and allows
data to be transmitted quickly
up to a speed of around 150
Mbps, the signal is distributed
through the 'small cells',which
can be mounted on lamp-
posts, traffic lights or bus
stops. The current cells
installed will provide about
5km (3 miles) of increased
coverage on both the beaches
as well as the shopping areas.
With Benidorm expecting over
5 million tourists by the end of
the year, this is a huge devel-
opment allowing people to surf
the web at faster speeds and
also to help with blackouts to
the networks and social media
applications when the area is it
at’s busiest such as Summer
and Easter. Each small sell
antenna has a huge radius of
around 600 metres and for
anyone who only has a 3G
device it’s still good news as
the installation of the 4G net-
work signals will be stronger
and 3G will be noticably faster.
BENIDORM GETS 4GCOVERAGE
NEW PYTHON FORTERRA NATURA
Terra Natura in Benidorm has
added to its collection an
Indian Python (Python molu-
rus bivittatus),the snake is
almost 6’5 feet long and
weighs about 22lb . The snake
has been subjected to a com-
prehensive review by experts
of the park in order to check
the condition of the skin, check
it’s mouth and behaviour. For
several days, it shall be sepa-
rated to adapt to the new envi-
ronment before introducing it
to the other Indian python that
lives in the complex. The
Indian pythons first came to
the park in 2005, making the
species reproduce in captivity
with the birth of 12 offspring,
which were subsequently
transferred to other zoos.
Today, the resort has another
male larger than the new
specimen, measuring about
10 feet long and weighs
around 66lb, and is 12 years of
age. Indian pythons are con-
sidered as one of the largest
species of snakes in the world,
along with the anaconda. This
snake kills its prey by suffoca-
tion method, so once these
animals have reached their
prey they strangle it until they
no longer feel the heartbeat.
Besides pythons, Terra Natura
Benidorm also has another 40
specimens such as the king
cobra, the Viper moss and the
black mamba. Visitors can
observe these animals in the
exhibition that is inside the vol-
cano and other areas of the
complex where they might
meet the deadliest snake in
the world the black mamba
awarded the title due to their
venom and speed,, or maybe
the most harmless specie that
is the egg eater snake, which
is small and with no teeth,
unable to attack any prey.
SPANISH CIGARETTESALES PLUMMET
Sales of tobacco products in Spanish tobacconists and bars
have dropped dramatically in the last five years, according to the
Finance Ministry and the cigarette industry. While over 90 billion
cigarettes were legally sold in Spain half a decade ago, last year
sales were down to 47.5 billion – a 47-percent drop. The trend
can be attributed to tougher anti-smoking legislation, tax hikes
and a loss of consumer purchasing power as a result of the eco-
nomic crisis. This in turn has led to a spike in tobacco smuggling
and a search for cheaper alternatives, such as roll-your-own cig-
arettes and pipe tobacco. Consumers are also turning to low-
cost cigarettes, whose makers have been thriving and already
control a share of over 11 percent of the market. Brands such as
Elixyr, Golden America and Winfield cost no more than €4.10 a
pack – compared with €4.80 for regular brands – and have been
enjoying a sharp rise in sales despite the small price difference
and low profit margin for manufacturers. Smuggled cigarettes
pose another challenge for the industry. The tobacco lobby has
been fighting back with a campaign to raise awareness about the
way smuggled products hurt the Spanish economy by depriving
the state of taxes. These claims have been backed in recent
weeks after the European Union said it detected signs of tobacco
smuggling and money laundering in Gibraltar, and asked
Spanish and British authorities to investigate. According to a
KPMG study commissioned by the four largest cigarette manu-
facturers (British American Tobacco, Imperial Tobacco, Japan
Tobacco International and Philip Morris), 8.8 percent of all tobac-
co consumed in Spain is smuggled in. If you also take into
account the 15 packs that a person can legally bring in from the
tax-free principality of Andorra, just north of Catalonia, on each
visit, the proportion of tax-free cigarettes smoked in Spain is now
over 11.3 percent, compared with 2.5 percent in 2009. This rep-
resents €718 million in lost taxes, according to the study.

The Spanish Ministry of
Interior launched
Alertcops, an app that
makes communicating
wiht the police easier to
all citizens, the app is tar-
geted towards tourists and
foreigners residing in Spain
that speak little or no
Spanish as well as people
with a hearing or speech disabil-
ity. The idea is to make it easier for
people to communicate with the State
Security Forces (Guardia Civil and National
Police) to report any criminal activity of which
they are a victim or they have witnessed.
Currently the app is only available in English
and Spanish but the Ministry of Interior plans to
include other languages, such as French,
German, Italian and Portuguese and is avail-
able for free on both the Apple & Android. The
app has been undergoing testing in Málaga and
is also available in Madrid and Alicante, for the
time being as the service aims to be available
across the whole of Spain by 2015. Once
downloaded, the user only has to register their
personal details and the system will send a
code by text message that will enable the user
to finish the registration process. With the appli-
cation installed, the user will be able to send an
alert by selecting an icon that best describes
the situation they want to report. By accepting
the confirmation of the alert, the user's informa-
tion and location will be sent on to the Attention
Centre of the National Police or Guardia Civil.
Once the alert is sent, users can consult its
status in My Alert section, which is
updated periodically. “Alertcops”
is part of the SIMASC (System
of Mobile Alerts for Citizen
Security) technology plat-
form, which aims to pro-
vide universal access to
public services and secu-
rity throughout society.
Interior Minister Jorge
Fernandez Diaz
explained that the aim of
this new service is to “pro-
vide a fast and efficient serv-
ice through a modern and eas-
ily accessible tool”, thus improving
public safety. He also stressed the
importance of this new application that, in his
opinion, opens a “communication channel in
accordance with the demands of today´s socie-
ty, laying the foundation for a social safety net”.
He claimed a
smartphone is “a
tool we all have in
our pocket these
days”.
The app can be
downloaded for
free from the
Google Play Store
and the Apple
Store. For more
information, visit

COUPLE FOUNDDEAD IN HOLIDAY
HOME - NAMEDThe elderly couple, found dead in
their holiday home in Benidorm
on the 4th of July have been
named as Laurence and Katie
Darga, Mr and Mrs Dargan, who
lived in Winslow Road, Hunger
Hill, had visited Benidorm every
year for 30 years.
The couple was staying at their
holiday home at the Gemelos 2
apartments in the centre of the
British district in Benidorm on
Calle Ibiza. Laurence and Katie
were both aged 92 and were
found in their apartment in the
last week of their 3 week holiday. Mr and Mrs
Dargan had both been captains at Horwich Golf
Club and owned a bathroom fitting business
together. Mr Dargan served as a bomber pilot
during World War Two and was a Labour coun-
cillor in the 1950s. They did not have any chil-
dren.
Their deaths are not thought to be suspicious
with their age being a key factor however the
actual cause of their deaths have still not been
released, but police have been carrying out tox-
icology tests to determine the circumstances.
The two bodies were removed for post-mortem
and then were later buried at a municipal ceme-
tery on the outskirts of Benidorm.
A spokesman for the Foreign and
Commonwealth Office (FCO) said: “We were
notified of the deaths of two British nationals in
Benidorm on July 5th. “We provided consular
assistance to the family and our thoughts
remain with them at this difficult time.”
TRIBUTES TO LAURENCE & KATIE
Their neighbour, Joanna Harwood, told the
Bolton News she had driven the couple to
Liverpool Airport at the start of their holiday last
month. She had known the pair for nearly 25
years. Mrs Harwood, aged 49, said: “It’s such
sad news — we will miss them very much,
because they were lovely, lovely people. “They
were both very excited and couldn’t wait to go
away. “My husband and I had agreed to look
after the house while they were gone, as we
always did. “I was due to pick them up from the
airport but I found out five
days before they were due to
return that they had died.
“Laurence and Katie were
very young for their age.
“They kept themselves to
themselves, but they seemed
to have a very good social
life.”
Their nephew, Chris
Beardsworth, aged 67, said:
“I was shocked when I heard
the news — they both
seemed in good health.
“They were very private, but
very nice people.”
Family friend Ken Oakes,
who had known the couple
for more than 60 years, since
he was a youngster, said he
had last seen them in April, three months
before their holiday. Mr Oakes, aged 66, who
lives in Niort, Western France, said: “My wife,
Ann, and I came back to the UK and we took
Laurie and Katie out for some lunch, then we
went to Blackpool together. “They were in really
high spirits. They were always together. They
never did anything apart.”
SPLASH THE CASHBritish holidaymakers visiting Spain are grab-
bing those bargains as the pound makes a
comeback. Back in December 2008 the
exchange rate hit a low of €1.04 which has
now risen to €1.25, for shoppers and bargain
hunters this is great news as purchasing
clothes and shoes within the Spanish border
proves significant savings. A
pair of Zara snakeskin print
stilettos are sold in the UK for
€87.81 (£69.99), but the same
pair can be found in Spain for
just €59.99 (£47.74). But it is
not just Spanish brands that
offer significant savings.
Swedish clothing giant H&M
also follow the trend with prod-
ucts averaging 5% more
expensive in the UK, for
example women’s skinny
jeans are at €19.99 (£15.99)
across stores in Spain, while
the same pairs go for €25.08
(£19.99) in the UK. Although
this is good news for the Brits
it isn’t so great for Spanish
residents that are still trying to
cope with the struggling econ-
omy in Spain. The European Central Bank
reported last week that inflation rates dropped
to 0.4% – almost approaching the deflation
danger area – compared to the UK’s 19%
inflation. The Eurozone’s high unemployment
rates are to blame, particularly in Spain where
unemployment is at 24.47%.

Food & DrinkHAWALIOur team visit to the Hawali Indian Restaurant in Albir was one
that we had been looking forward to. I had received many
great comments from people that I know that use the restau-
rant regularly and I was intrigued to sample the Indian cuisine
for myself. The Hawali has been trading for 9 years in Albir
with the same chef, a solid reputation for the quality authentic
cuisine that has been built up over these years. Jasveer the
manager explained to me that the restaurant has mainly regu-
lar customers some that he has known for many years. With
70 covers inside and also with a outside terrace that seats
over 100 people the Hawali is spacious and offers a choice of
comfortable table settings. A centre point in Albir is the Albir
Playa Hotel and the Hawali is found directly opposite. Our
order comprised of the normal favourite curry dishes as well as
a change from my usual choice. Chicken Tika Masala, Lamb
Rogan Josh, Sagg Panir accompanied by Pilau Rice and Nan
Bread. The extensive menu choice offered much more than
some other Indian Restaurants so amongst the favourites
there were a number of different dishes to choose from and
the most apparent difference was the inclusion of the selection
Beef Curries. My immediate opinion when the food was served
was the attractive individual metal burners that stood with a
dish placed on top. Each dish was served to the table and the
layout was extremely appetising. The food was served at the
correct temperature something that quite often seems to be at
fault in many restaurants. The lamb was very tender and moist
and the curry sauce was a little spicy but not too hot, I enjoy
spicy food but if it burns my mouth then I do not enjoy it. The
Chicken Tikka Masala was served with a creamy sauce that
was tangy and full of flavour of the tandoori oven cooked
chicken. Slightly spicy the masala sauce gave the dish a rich
flavoursome consistency. My experience in eating curry goes
back along way in fact I have dined regularly for over 20 years
at the oldest Indian restaurant in London "The Taj Mahal" locat-
ed in Neal St, Covent Garden. With my experience I have very
high expectations and in this experience I can say that my
expectations were delivered. Decent size portions cooked with
care by a very experienced Indian Chef, for the Weekly Buzz
team Hawali is a recommended eating experience.

What’s OnLa Tomatina is a food fight festival held on the last Wednesday
of August each year in the town of Bunol near to Valencia in
Spain. Thousands upon thousands of people make their way
from all corners of the world to fight in this 'World's Biggest Food
Fight' where more than one hundred metric tons of over-ripe
tomatoes are thrown in the streets. The week-long festival fea-
tures music, parades, dancing, and fireworks. On the night
before the tomato fight, participants of the festival compete in a
paella cooking contest. Prior to 2013 anywhere from 40,000 to
50,000 (reported to be 50,000 in 2012) people crammed into this
huge tomato fight, greatly expanding Bunol's normal 9,000 per-
son population. Since the 2013 event official ticketing was put
into place limiting the number of participants to just 20,000 lucky
people. There is limited accommodation for people who come to
La Tomatina, so many people take the easier option of staying
in nearby Valencia just 38km to Bunol by bus
or train. In preparation for the dirty
mess that will ensue, shopkeepers
use huge plastic covers on their
storefronts in order to protect
them from the carnage.
What Happens at La
Tomatina ....At around 11
am, the first event of the
Tomatina begins. Many
trucks haul the bounty
of tomatoes into the
center of the town,
Plaza del Pueblo. The
tomatoes come from
Extremadura, where
they are less expensive.
Technically the festival
does not begin until one
brave soul has climbed to the
top of a two-story high, greased-
up wooden pole and reached the
coveted ham at the top. In practice this
process takes a long time and the festival starts
despite no one reaching the meaty prize. The signal for the
beginning of the fight is firing of water cannons, and the chaos
begins. Once it begins, the battle is generally every man for him-
self. Those who partake in this event are strongly encouraged to
wear protective safety goggles and gloves. In addition, they
must squish the tomatoes before throwing for safety precau-
tions. Another rule is that no one is allowed to bring into this fight
anything that may provoke someone into a more serious brawl,
such as a glass bottle. Although it is forbidden to tear someone
else's clothing, the crowd tends to ignore this and invariably will
rip the shirt of any clothed person, man or woman. After exactly
one hour, the fighting ends when the water cannons are fired
once more to signal the end. At this point, no more tomatoes can
be thrown. The cleaning process involves the use of fire trucks
to spray down the streets, with water provided from a Roman
aqueduct. The authorities seem more concerned with cleaning
the town than cleaning the visitors, so some people find water at
the Bunol River to wash themselves, although some kind resi-
dents will hose passers-by down. Once the tomato pulp is
flushed, the ground is clean due to the acidity of the tomato.
Rules of La Tomatina
Do not bring bottles or hard objects as they can cause accidents
and hurt other participants
Do not rip other people’s T-shirts
You must squash the tomatoes before throwing them as this
reduces the impact
Ensure you keep a safe distance from the lorries
As soon as you hear the second shot, you must stop throwing
tomatoes
Useful AdviceWear closed shoes that you don’t mind throwing away after-
wards. If you wear flip-flops, you may get hurt, or you could lose
them easily during the battle
Wear old clothes, or clothes
that you aren’t planning to
wear again. They will
most likely end up
damaged from
being ripped or
incredibly dirty
You may find
goggles useful.
However, it is
safer if you
just ensure
that you
always have
s o m e t h i n g
clean to wipe
your eyes with.
The best thing is if
you tuck your T-Shirt
into your shorts to keep
the bottom part of your T-
shirt clean and dry
If you are planning to take pic-
tures, bring a waterproof cam-
era!
If you’re not from Buñol, and you want to stay overnight, don’t
forget to look for and secure accommodation in advance
Do not miss the Palojabón – a soap-covered pole with a Spanish
ham at the top: whoever can climb the pole and get the ham can
keep it!
Stay safe and enjoy the festivities as much possible
How did La Tomatina Start .....
The tomato fight has been a strong tradition in Bunol since 1944
or 1945. No one is completely certain how this event originated.
Possible theories on how the Tomatina began include a local
food fight among friends, a juvenile class war, a volley of toma-
toes from bystanders at a carnival parade, a practical joke on a
bad musician, and the anarchic aftermath of an accidental lorry
spillage.
One popular theory is that disgruntled townspeople attacked city
councilmen with tomatoes during a town celebration. Whatever
happened to begin the tradition, it was enjoyed so much that it
was repeated the next year, and the year after that, and so on.
The holiday was banned during the Spanish State period under
Francisco Franco for having no religious significance, but
returned in the 1970s after his demise.
The festival is in honor of the town's patron saints, Luis Bertran
and the Mare de Deu dels Desemparats (Mother of God of the
Defenseless), a title of the Virgin Mary.
Where is Bunol?Bunol is a town and municipality in the province of Valencia,
Spain and is situated approximately 38 km west of Valenica
(City) and just 164km from Benidorm thats just over an hour and
a half drive.

Travel AroundHave you got a location that you
would like to hear about? Then whydon’t you tell us?! Email the team-
Javea (also known as Xabia) is a gem of a town situated on
the Northern Costa Blanca. It’s rugged coastline is indented
with secluded coves and sandy beaches. These hidden caves
and bays were once used by pirates and smugglers in the
Middle Ages but are now used by sunbathers, snorklers and
scuba divers.
Javea is in the Costa Blanca region in Alicante, Spain,
Valencia airport is 100 km to the north.
Alicante is found 100 km to the south, and Murcia a bit further.
Several companies offer transportation from both nearby inter-
national airports, there is a train station connecting to Valencia
and Benidorm in nearby Gata De Gorgos. The town has three
main areas namely Javea old town, Javea port, & the beach
area. The old town has not changed much and is a maze of
narrow winding streets with homes that have wrought iron bal-
conies and windows in gothic style. There are many ancient
churchs and other structures. The harbor and fishing port has
numerous restaurants and bars overlooking the sea. The
Arenal beach area is the main commercial and recreation cen-
tre of the town.
ARENAL BEACHArenal is the main beach area with numerous good restaurants
and shops along the seafront of Javea. El Arenal is the main
beach, a beautiful sandy half-moon bay with a gentle slope to
the sea and it has the blue flag standard for cleanliness. This
is a wide sandy beach with shallow waters ideal for young chil-
dren and lots of facilities such as volleyball, windsurfing and
beach bars. Monitored by the Red Cross Beach Patrol
Behind the beach is a pedestrianised promenade lined with
bars and restaurants offering everything from live bands to tra-
ditional restaurants. There is a small fair for the children in the
summer months with rides, trampoline and go-karts. The prom-
enade is a great place for a stroll in the evening.
The bustling Arenal area is surrounded by shops, bars and
restaurants such as the renowned Los Remos or La Boheme.
It’s a great place to walk along the promenade in the evening.
It’s very touristy obviously and is the least Spanish part of
Javea but nevertheless it is a crucial part.
During the evening in the summer there are various stalls here
selling a variety of handmade crafts. Many of the bars have
live music. The most popular bar is known as Champagne
which has been renamed Jalousie. Set off the beach is the
popular Irish Bar An Shebeen. This is the place to enjoy the
Javea nightlife which although relatively quiet and limited does
have it’s lively spots such as the nightclub Achill.
The Arenal is very good for families. The beach is large and
very wide. The water is very shallow and calm as it is in a shel-
tered bay. You can easily sit in a cafe or bar and be able to
see your children. Generally Spain is very family-orientated
and you can feel much more relaxed about your kids safety
than you would anywhere else.
This is the place where you can eat tapas, paella but also fish
and chips and English breakfast. The great thing about Javea
is the choice of the three very different parts. It’s almost like
visiting a theme park and entering different worlds!
Buildings here are not high-rise due to strict local plan-
ning regulations. its major leisure and local
cuisine facilities make it an essential
place to visit and the temptation to
return here will be irresistible.
JAVEA PORTMany people’s favourite area of
Javea this has a fascinating
charm factor hard to define.
Traditional whitewashed
houses surround the bay.
Watch the fishermen bring in
their fresh catches or watch
the sailing boats set off from
the marina. Eat at the fantas-
tic seafood restaurants.
There are also many good bou-
tiques, shops, bars and cafes –
it’s bustling with activity. The Port
area of Javea has a real Spanish feel,
this is an area where locals live and work
in harmony with the tourist elements.
The landmark of the Port area is the church of Our
Lady of Loreto with a roof which imitates the hull of a ship.
Between the Port area and the main Arenal beach are rocks
perfect for exploring and in the summer this stretch is lined
with beach bars.
HISTORIC OLD TOWNThere is the traditional Old Town of Javea where you can wan-
der down ancient narrow streets and visit the local market on a
Thursday. Built with original Tosca sandstone it’s rich in
medieval history.
The Gothic fortified church of San Bartolome dominates the
centre of Javea’s town. This building dates back to the 15th
century. At the side of the church is a beautiful building which
houses the indoor market where you can buy local fresh pro-
duce daily.
SHOPPING
Every Thursday between approx. 08:30 and 14:00, a
weekly Street Market or “Mercadillo” is held in Plaza
de la Constitución and Placeta del Convent.
Duanes de la Mar also has an extensive
range of shops concentrated in Av. Jaime I,
C/ Cristo del Mar and the outskirts of the
church. This city centre contains the
Fishing and Yacht Port and the Fish
Market called the “Lonja de Pescado”
with the traditional auction which takes
place from Monday to Friday at around
17:00. Starting from 18:00, you may
buy fresh fish and seafood from the
local bay in the sales office which the
Fishermen’s Association has inside this
Market. Its great fishing tradition means
that it is full of restaurants and bars with
traditional seafood “tapas”.
In the beach, Playa del Arenal, you may find
major shopping opportunities all year round. In
addition to clothing boutiques and shoe shops, you
can find diverse businesses ranging from souvenir and
gift shops, costume jewellery and Summer fashion shops. In
the Summer, the promenade is full of handicraft stands starting
from 19:00.
The opening timetables of Xàbia vary according to the season
and are approximately as follows: from 09:30 to 13:30 and
from 16:00 or 16:30 to 20:00 or 20:30.
There also numerous supermarkets and shopping centres in
the city centres and the main access roads to the towns or
housing estates. The majority of them are open on holidays
during July, August and September.
The Shopkeepers Association organize different events
throughout the year such as the Handicrafts Fair in Holy Week,
Christmas Markets, and the Moors and Christian Fair in July
as well as the Sea Festival with the sale-purchase of boats
and semi-new nautical items.
Visit www.portaldelcomerciante.com
To find additional information about these activities as
well as a business guide.
GETTING AROUNDFor most locations in Javea a car is essential. If arriv-
ing at Valencia or Alicante airport there are several
car rental companies readily available. If booking a
car rental locally in Javea it is generally advised to do
so in advance of your journey as they tend to sell out
during the busy summer season.

ARIES (March 21st-April 20th)
It's time to decide what course of action is best for your future. Show others
you're more than capable of planning for the long term by approaching issues
calmly. From Thursday onwards the sky's the limit for you when it comes to fun
and socialising.
TAURUS (April 21st-May 21st)
You'd give anything to be able to rely on someone else to do something correctly
for you, but it always comes back to you being the only one shouldering the bur-
den. Make sure minor obstacles don't derail you and you'll make a great impres-
sion on authority.
GEMINI (May 22nd-June 21st)
Acting on impulse is always risky, but if you use your Gemini intuition to lead you,
you'll get farther than anyone else this week over career matters. Once loose
ends are tied up it may be an idea to take a holiday or short break. Someone
from the past tugs your heart strings.
CANCER (June 22nd-July 23rd)
Recent events have boosted your confidence and you now feel you can tackle
anything. Now that you're sure of yourself its time to remind others you're fine on
your own. Just take extra care when it comes to major financial decisions.
You're cocky not infallible.
LEO (July 24th-August 23rd)
Hidden emotions you've been trying to suppress may come to the surface today,
so take time to rethink personal attachments and work out ways in which to
improve them. The week progresses steadily and by the weekend you're the life
and soul of the party.
VIRGO (August 24th-September 23rd)
It's unlike you to want to run away from duties and responsibilities, but events
this week make you want to escape the reality of what's going on. This may
apply to work or home, but thankfully not both. Try to be rational as you try to
work out a plan to move forward.
LIBRA (September 24th-October 23rd)
By hook or by crook you're determined to let your hair down and have fun this
week, and although initially there doesn't seem to be anything to stop you, take
time to think of how others feel. Partners and children think you're being selfish
and they'll tell you.
SCORPIO (October 24th-November 22nd)
The prospects look good as you make positive moves for the future over career
matters, but getting your innovative ideas across to the hierarchy may be harder
than you think. Use your seductive powers of persuasion and you'll have it in the
bag. Stay focused.
SAGITTARIUS (November 23rd-December 21st)
You start the week determined to make changes and you'll go at them full steam
ahead, but this only leaves you spent mid week. Pace yourself. Do a little every
day, and allows goals to culminate around the weekend. Its only then you can
afford to let your hair down.
CAPRICORN (December 22nd-January 20th)
Planetary trends encourage you to be generally optimistic over long term goals,
so do what you can to ensure everything is done and dusted well before the
deadline. You're in a powerful position when it comes to influencing those in
authority. Be discreet.
AQUARIUS (January 21st-February 19th)
The lunar high brings you closer to your hearts desire and you'll easily persuade
others to follow your lead. This is a great move to ward off worries about your
security. Work diligently and move steadily towards your hopes dreams and
goals. A weekend to celebrate.
PISCES (February 20th-March 20th)
There's a fog of lethargy surrounding you that you cant seem to shake off, but
maybe a change of routine and stepping back from responsibilities would be a
good first step to remedy how you're feeling. Your natural good luck will arrive
when you need it most.

BRAIN TEASER: STEVIE WONDER - WORD WHEEL: 9 LETTER WORD - SATELLITE
It’s that time of
year when family
and friends decide that it is a good time to visit
you. The children have broken up from school.
The flights are getting expensive but low cost
accommodation is looking good in these cost
cutting times! It also means a good time to
catch up with lovely relatives or great
friends! These visits can be filled
with joy and anticipation or
filled with dread as you have
to cope with sleepless
nights due to giving up
your bed, excessive
partying and drinking
as you cope with
guests on holiday!
For you it’s a life
style with routine
and new friends a
disruption. For them
a holiday to catch up
with loved ones and
get a cheap holiday at
the same time!. Yet for
all of you it is a chance to
be re-united. A chance to
catch up on old memories and
good times and a fantastic oppor-
tunity to enjoy the moment of now and
to create new memories to tide them over the
long dark winter months back in the UK and for
you, a moment in time to savour in those
months of separation ahead. I guess that’s why
I feel I have to help those dogs still separated
from love, a warm bed, good food, a cuddle, a
touch and even a daily walk. Let me introduce
you to one dog who would not take such oppor-
tunity as a mere glancing, fleeting opportunity
and who you could help right before you put this
paper aside.
DOG OF THE WEEKJessShe came into the pound with her sister over 18
months ago. We worked really hard to home
them together and eventually after over 1,000
members on facebook all working together,
radio stations and newspapers we found a
home for them, together. But it was not the end
of the story as the two sisters together were a
bit too much trouble together, it hurt us to have
to split them up but finding happiness for them
became the priority. It was heart-breaking to
have one of them returned to the pound, yet
this one Jess has shown to be a lovely girl,
Getting on great with her new friends and loving
her time in the park for a run and chasing the
balls you throw for her. Perhaps now you can
show her the love she needs to be re-united
with her new family. Please give her a chance
and share some love. For me, July has given
me the chance to be re-united with very
Special friends, one’s I know
who will follow me if I move
from Spain to another
country. Not
because of the
cheap holiday
but because
that connec-
tion between
us is strong,
p e r h a p s
unbreakable
and is full of
love and
commitment
to us as an
honorary fami-
ly. We cherish
the time we have
together, the fun,
the memories and also
because we are there for
each other for life, good and
bad. I wish that for Jess too. For more
dogs please check out our facebook page
Benidorm Dog Pound needs your help to raise
funds to treat our dogs in need. We need you to
help us walk our dogs and socialise them to be
ready to move into a new home. You can
donate unwanted items to our stall on a
Saturday at El Cisne. Donate funds using pay-
pal at [email protected]. How about
spending an hour or two with us walking the
dogs any day between Monday and Saturday
10am to 1pm. We love meeting you and so do
the dogs. Call Maria on 0034 677 37 33 96. If
you can bring leads along then that would be
fantastic too. Another way to help is to become
a cyber buddy for a dog. We have so many
dogs that a lot don’t ever leave the pound and
end up dead one morning on a cold concrete
floor. A cyber buddy changes that and you can
help from anywhere in the world. It’s easy to do
and makes a huge difference to a dog finding a
new forever home. It takes just 2-3 minutes a
day for you! If you had to re-home your dog you
would give more than that a day to find it a fan-
tastic home. So please help us do the same for
the lost dogs in your favourite holiday resort

ALTEA SEA FRONT
DELAY
ALTEA’S seafront face lift has been delayed,
work began back in January where they start-
ed extending the promenade and draining the
mucky stagnant lagoon however work
stopped a few weeks ago. We are now to
understand the delay is due to the firm Cyes
Infraestucturas who are handling the project
have called for a creditors meeting, which
show that there is financial difficulty and the
much needed revamp for the seafront maybe
significantly delayed.
All political parties on Altea council agreed
that the Environment ministry should be
asked to step in and ensure that the project
“continues at the agreed rhythm.”
This could not have happened at a worse
time, town hall sources complained. The
seafront, like the Old Quarter around the
church, is one of the town’s principal tourist
attractions and finishing the revamp within the
stipulated 24 months was a priority.
The town hall has expressed their disappoint-
ment It is intolerable that this should have
happened during the high season. It gives an
impression of neglect that we simply cannot
allow,”
A 4-year-old boy has drowned in a swimming
pool on Sunday the boy was pulled from the
pool of a private villa in Altea, Guardia Civil
have confirmed.Paramedics were called but
were unable to revive the child after he was
pulled from the pool unconcious, During July
alone 32 people have been reported to have
died by means of drowning either in the sea,
rivers or swimming pools. The family which is of
French nationality have been holidaying in the
Costa Blanca but are now mourning the loss of
their 4 year old son.

Alfaz & AlbirALBIR FIESTAS
22nd to 24thAugust
This year Albir will be celebrating it’s annual fiestas from the
22nd August until the 24th August, with fiestas anywhgere in
Spain prepare your self for lots of music, lots of people, and it
lasting into the eatly hours, so if your staying or live nearby you
might want to consider grabbing those earplugs! The celebra-
tions are generally held in the Eucalyptus Park, which you can
find right near the beach just behind the Kaktus Hotel. The cel-
ebrations are for the whole family with lots to see and do, for the
kids head down on Saturday and Sunday morning for around
10am , there will be bouncy castles and lots of free activities, so
if you have kids then this will be perfect to start the day off and
wear them out! For the main entertainment the weekend kicks
off on Friday night with a Correfoc display, Correfoc is a well
known Spanish fiesta and tradition where the Spanish fuel their
love of fireworks, opeople dress up as devils and light up fire-
works on their pitch forks, or throw smaller fireworks into the
crowds. It is all for fun but this display is nothing compared to the
other Correfoc displays held in Spain, Benidorm celebrates
theirs during the November fiestas. During the rest of the week-
end there will be lots of music , dancing and ofcourse drinking
, the parties go on until the ealr hours. In the park families and
groups are given their own plots, to set up therir own party area,
with people setting up their own mini bars tables chairs and
music, these are called Penyas and are traditional during any
Spanish fiesta. The penyas are private and are for people to join
in only when they have been invited but you can walk around
freely and look at the set ups, and enjoy the main entertainemnt
and public bar.

Health & Family A deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a blood clot
that forms in a deep leg vein. Anyone may
develop a DVT, but the following increase the
risk:
• A surgical operation which lasts more than 30
minutes - the most common cause of
DVT.
• Any illness or injury that causes immobility
• Long journeys by plane, train, etc. cause a
slightly increased risk of DVT.
• Damage to the inside lining of the vein
increases the risk of a blood clot forming. For
example, a DVT may damage the lining of the
vein. So, if you have a DVT, then you have a
higher than average risk of having another one
sometime in the future. Some conditions such
as vasculitis (inflammation of the vein wall) and
some drugs (for example, some chemotherapy
drugs) can damage the vein and increase the
risk of having a DVT.
• The contraceptive pill and hormone replace-
ment therapy
(HRT) which contain oestrogen can cause a
small increased risk of DVT.
• People with cancer or heart failure
• Older people particularly those who have
poor mobility or have a serious illness such as
cancer.
• Pregnancy increases the risk. About 1 in
1000 pregnant women have a DVT.
• Obesity
In some cases of deep vein thrombosis (DVT)
there may be no symptoms, but possible
symptoms can include:
• Pain, swelling and tenderness in one
of your legs (usually your calf)
• A heavy ache in the affected area
• Warm skin in the area of the clot
• Redness of your skin, particularly at
the back of your leg, below the knee
DVT usually (although not always) affects one
leg. The pain may be made worse by bending
your foot upward towards your knee.
If DVT is not treated, a pulmonary embolism (a
blood clot that has come away from its original
site and become lodged in one of your lungs)
may occur. If you have a pulmonary embolism,
you may experience more serious symptoms
such as:
• breathlessness, which may come on
gradually or suddenly
• chest pain, which may become
worse when you breathe in
• sudden collapse
Both DVT and pulmonary embolism are seri-
ous conditions. Anyone who experiences any
symptoms or who is even slightly concerned
about the possibility of DVT should see their
doctor without delay.

Shopping & Lifestyle How to sleep in the Spanish heat
Here are a few simple tricks for surviving those sweaty summer
nights – No air con required!
Getting to sleep in the Spanish heat can be difficult and even
more so during the Summer months, in high tempretures at any
time of the year you can easilu notice that the bed sheets cling,
pajamas are too heavy, and cool air is notable by its absence.
It’s impossible to sleep. Your first reaction is to turn on the air
con, if you have it. But often it’s not worth the cost to have it run-
ning the whole night, so you decide to turn it off again.
But is it possible to sleep coolly in the Spanish summer without
air conditioning? Tradition says yes. Ancient Egyptians used to
moisten their bedclothes to sleep better and combat heat
waves, which pose a serious risk to public health. According to
the results of a scientific study carried out by the Spanish
National Research Council, mortality rates for those aged over
75 increase 20.1 percent for each degree that the maximum
daily temperature rises above 36ºC.
Direct a fan towards the windows to prevent the heat coming
through
Our ancestors have passed down to us a long legacy of tricks
for staying cool. You can sleep under cotton sheets, for exam-
ple, which aid perspiration. At the same time you can also put
your sheets in the fridge or freezer inside a plastic bag for a few
minutes before sleeping – they won’t stay cool the whole night,
but it will be long enough for you to fall asleep – or fill a hot water
bottle with cold water to cool down your bed. Here are a few
more suggestions.
1. Be creative. Come up with methods to stop hot air from enter-
ing the room. For instance, point a fan toward the windows, or
place a bowl full of ice or very cold water in front of the fan to
cool the air further. A damp sheet placed over the window also
helps.
2. Wear light pajamas. That’s the advice from the US Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), though you can also
sleep naked if you like. It’s a question of preference. According
to a study by the Association of American Cotton Producers
Cotton USA carried out in the UK, 57 percent of people who
sleep naked are happier in their relationship with their partner.
3. Apply compresses dipped in lukewarm water on parts of the
body most sensitive to heat, such as the neck, elbows, ankles
and the backs of the knees. The contact with cool water has a
refrigerating effect that triggers a narrowing of the blood vessels,
heating up the skin. In turn, the heat cools you down as a result
of the difference in the surrounding temperature, explains the
CDC.
Over half of people who sleep naked are happier in their rela-
tionship with their partner
4. Sleep alone. It’s the best thing to stay cool. Sleeping along-
side someone else increases your body temperature and makes
the bedclothes cling, explainsdormir.org.es, a website devoted
to sleep problems. What’s more, doing so at floor level will make
you even cooler as hot air tends to rise.
5. Shower in warm water to reduce your body temperature. This
is a good tip for feeling fresh and clean. Many people say that,
even though the shock of a cold shower produces an instant
feeling of coolness, it reactivates your body and energy con-
sumption, which makes you feel the heat more quickly after-
wards than if you had showed in warm water, explains the
Biological Health Institute. Also, be sure to keep your feet cool
as heat enters the body here. Washing them before you turn in
for the night or sleeping with them outside the bed are two good
tips.
6. Eat salad for dinner. Avoid big meals and hot dishes such as
stews, soups and roast chicken. These force the body to pro-
duce more heat in order to digest them. A yoghurt, salad or that
Spanish summer favorite, cold gazpacho, are perfect for sum-
mer nights. And don’t forget to drink plenty of water, the WHO
says: the body uses it to get rid of heat.
7. Turn off all lights and electronic gadgets completely. Putting
them on standby is not enough: they go on using energy and
giving off heat, according to the International Energy Agency –
between five and 10 percent of what they would use when
switched on. Also: replace incandescent light bulbs with com-
pact fluorescent ones, which produce the same amount of light
but use a fifth of the energy and give off less heat, according to
the emergencies center in Arlington, Virginia.
Lastly, if you are able to sleep out in the open air, do so. Set up
a camp on the roof or head out into the country to sleep close to
a place next to water (the moisture in the air has a cooling
effect), turning a night of stifling heat into one of adventure.

tasty desserts for free or at a discount if
they have their Vista Card. Customers
might love your desserts so much, they’ll
purchase them next time they come in for
dinner. Changing the reward every now

““A visit everyday.”Reviewed August 13, 2014
We found this place on the 1st day of our two week holiday.
Glad we did! Trevor is a great host and made us feel welcome.
Food and drinks are cheap as chips and it's a great pint! Will be
our 1st stop next year at Benidorm. Had to write this review to
say thanks for being part of our holiday. Top job sir... See you
next year buddy.
Warm and friendly”Reviewed August 12, 2014Just returned from 2 weeks in benidorm ... Passed this bar one
day in popped in for the Thursday quiz ... Have to say the serv-
ice and welcome was fantastic , totally recommend visiting bro-
gans if your in benidorm lovely people :)
“Quality bar fantastic owners” Reviewed August 11, 2014Quality cheap friendly bar, great quiz night just a shame didn't
get there till half way through. We go benidorm yearly and will
definitely be visiting this great bar again and will be advising
friends and family also to visit this bar thanks:-)
“Great quiz” Reviewed August 9, 2014Spotted the sign on the wall advertising a quiz night so decided
to pop back on said night to participate. Only a small place but
friendly enough with excellent prices at the bar plus free
snacks. We found the male owner to be fairly quiet and mild
mannered and I think with a bit of a louder voice and a bit more
of a pushy nature could have filled the bar that night with pass-
ing trade. The quiz was good fun and he should do them more
often never mind 'stepping on other bars toes' get the punters
in and do more quizzes and games!! :)
“Made us very welcome” Reviewed August 3, 2014found this lovely friendly café bar 4 days before returning home

“Great location”Reviewed August 5, 2014Really nice view from the restaurant, the food is excellent and
the choices on the menu will suit all comers. The staff are very
good, but could do better at coming back to the tables to see if
anything else is required such as drinks etc. Very much one of
the best in Altea.
“The best pizza and spaghetti”Reviewed June 28, 2014Everything in this restaurant was perfect. Delicious pizzas and
spaghetti, warm service, nice sea view and reasonable prices!
“terrific meal”Reviewed April 24, 2014We had lunch here a couple of days ago and chose from the
menu of the day. The food was excellent with good portions
and the blueberry cheesecake was the best we had ever tast-
ed. The service was superb, very attentive waiter and we will
certainly eat here again.
“Excellent meal!!”Reviewed November 4, 2013We visited this restaurant last week. We chose the restaurant
as they appeared to be one of the only restaurant that was
either open or would continue to serve the 'Menu of the Day'
after 4 pm.
The Service was very good and the staff were very friendly
and helpful. The menu was varied and suitable for a wide vari-
ety of tastes and all of the food and drink that we ordered was
very good. Overall it was a most enjoyable experienceand the
meal was very good value for money.
I would recommend this restaurant
“Good and bad but a lovely view fromour table”
Reviewed September 19, 2013We visited here early one evening. Good menu choice. Waiter
was friendly and helpful. Food on the whole was good - espe-
cially the lamb. Only downside was that one member of the
party ordered a pasta dish only to be told a little later that they
had run out. Unfortunately their alternative choice when it
arrived was cold in the middle and had to be sent back. The
same dish was returned reheated, which was not ideal. Hence
food rated average which meant that the overall rating was
reduced from very good to average.
However desserts were very good especially the panacotta.

“Always good value.”Reviewed May 30, 2014Excellent restaurant, always perfect service and quality food.
Great value, immaculate surroundings. The "menús" are really
good value offering 4 or 5 courses. Highly recommended.
"Good food, nice decor and properoperation!"
Reviewed July 30, 2014Menus includes a drink, salad, bread with tasty garlic mayon-
naise, soup, main course and dessert (cheesepie, apple pie,
panna cotta, ice cream, coffee, melon, fruit or caramel pudding)
.... from € 10,90- € 17.90. 4 people for € 58.60, incl. Bottle of
lambrusco extra. Bedienig speaks many languages and menu
in all languages. Friendly and soup is served at the table. Also
beautiful crockery and beautifully laid tables!
"Great meal!" Reviewed July 15, 2014Was here for the first time, we chose the 4 course menu.
Everyone was delighted with the food and service. If we are to
give the top result, they were replaced with fresh frozen vegeta-
bles. All the vegetables are not cooked soft, but it's a matter of
taste. The house vitvin was good. Affordable and good restu-
rang. Location is not my butter in the eye, but what Gør it? We
will soon again.
"Great Value" Reviewed July 1, 2014 Very much good food for the money. This restaurant visit I
would like to again. Good and friendly staff.
"Every visit I like !!!" Reviewed October 16, 2013Very good food, prices, service, everything is homemade, fla-
vored and look good. One of the best restaurants for me, rec-
ommended for sure
"It offers great value!" Reviewed 15 July 2013We have eaten at many restaurants in Albir, Altea and Alfas,
but always return to Transylvania. Do not feed the world, but
the world as much for your money!

innovations including an investigation wall and
a social media news desk. The overhauled

folio of channels down a single notch. The

a “Lazy Susan-style” central desk which
enables presenters to be shot from a variety of
angles. A huge 18m squared video wall is locat-
ed behind the main desk which will be used to
highlight the news stories of the day and enable
viewers to see what is being broadcast on the
six Sky Sports channels. Sky Sports News has
also beefed up its range of cameras with sever-
al Sony RF cameras which offer more mobility
around the studio. These will be used to film
presenters as they move around nine different
locations in the studio. Launched for the new

the viewer at the heart of sports news with a
new schedule, upgraded studio and improved
digital services including redesigned apps and
integrated social media coverage.

FURY - CHISORARESCHEDULED
Tyson Fury and Dereck Chisora will finally face each other in the
ring after their grudge rematch was rescheduled for November
22 at London's ExCel arena. The British heavyweights were due
to meet in Manchester last month until Chisora fractured his
hand and the long-awaited bout had to be postponed. Alexander
Ustinov was drafted in as a replacement following Chisora’s
withdrawal but undefeated Fury then pulled out due to his uncle
Hughie being taken ill. However, Fury, who in the last 12 months
has had two scheduled fights with David Haye called off, will
now get the chance to extend his undefeated record by a claim-
ing a second victory over Chisora. Promoter Frank Warren said:
"It's been a roller-coaster few weeks, but I'm delighted to say
that the fight is definitely on with Chisora and Fury ready to clash
on Saturday 22nd November at the ExCeL London. “It was an
extremely unfortunate set of circumstances that caused Chisora
to pull out with a fractured hand. "Despite the setbacks, they
were both determined to fight each other and I believe that we
could see a genuine old fashioned ring war between them."
Warren had been hoping to set the world title eliminator for
October but was troubled by a lack of suitable dates and venues,
while also mindful of giving Chisora's hand enough time to
recover. European champion Chisora, who lost on points to Fury
when they met in 2011, said: "The important thing is we have a
new date for the fight, it's on, and Fury and I will finally give the
fans what they want to see, a fight. "What happened with my
hand has happened and the timing of the injury was terrible, it
couldn't have happened at a worse time and of course Fury had
personal issues going on with him. "I just want to fight Fury, get
revenge, beat him good and proper, and move on to fight
Wladimir Klitschko for the world title." Fury, who has 22 straight
victoires, has vowed to make
Chisora pay for the delay. “Chisora
is now going to get a beating twice
as bad than the one that he was
going to get for pulling out,” he said.
"All Chisora is to me is an obstacle
and I've got to smash through him
to get where I want to be and that's
fighting for the world title. He's
messed me around and now I'm
going to make him pay. I'm happy
for the fans who will get to see me
crush Chisora for second and final
time and send him into retirement."
SUREZ IN BARCAFRIENDLY
Luis Suarez made his first appearance as a Barcelona player in
their 6-0 friendly victory over Mexican side Club Leon. Suarez
joined Barcelona almost five weeks ago but fans have had to
wait to welcome their new signing due to a four-month ban for
biting Giorgio Chiellini at the World Cup. While he will not be
able to feature competitively until October 25, his suspension
was last week relaxed to allow him to train and play in unofficial
matches. The Uruguayan was the star attraction at the Camp
Nou as Barca entertained Leon in the Joan Gamper Trophy,
their traditional curtain-raiser to the new season, while there
was further good news for the Catalan side as Brazilian forward
Neymar started after recovering from the injury which ended his
World Cup. Suarez was paraded in front of the supporters with
the rest of the team ahead of kick-off but started on the substi-
tutes’ bench and only came on in the 77th minute, earning a
rapturous reception from the 72,475 in the crowd.

BAD WEEKGibbs Injury Blow
Arsenal have been dealt a blow ahead of Tuesday night’sChampions League qualifier against Besiktas with news ofan injury to Kieran Gibbs. The 24-year-old has been ruledout of action for at least three weeks with a hamstring prob-lem. Gibbs was substituted after 53 minutes of Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace when he suffered the injury.Nacho Monreal came on as a replacement against Palaceand will almost certainly start in the Istanbul match. Arsenalalready have doubts over Laurent Koscielny for the Besiktastie, while Germany international Per Mertesacker has justreturned to training following the World Cup.
England’s bowlers destroyed India’s batting order onceagain, dismissing the tourists for 94 to seal a 3-1 series vic-tory on day three of the fifth cricket test at the Oval onSunday. Chris Jordan and James Anderson spearheadedEngland’s attack as the hosts thrashed India by an inningsand 244 runs. Joe root was named Man of the Match and itwas well deserved for his outstanding batting form getting149 not out in his innings. The series victory completes aremarkable turnaround for England, which trailed the series1-0 after defeat in the second test at Lord’s amid questionsabout Alastair Cook’s future as a batsman and captain. ForIndia, it is the second time in as many tests they have beenbeaten in three days.
Defending champion Rafa Nadal hasbeen forced to pull out of the US Openbecause of injury. The world No 2 has not played since his
shock defeat to Nick Kyrgios at
Wimbledon last month. He suffered an
injury to his right wrist at home in Mallorca
on 29 July whilst practicing for the US
hardcourt season. He was advised by
doctors to wear a cast for two to three
weeks but the problem forced him to miss
the Rogers Cup in Toronto and last week's
Cincinnati Open.And the Spaniard con-
firmed on his Facebook page that the
injury would now force him to miss the last
Grand Slam event of the year, which
begins next Monday. Nadal said: “I am
very sorry to announce I won’t be able to
play at this year’s US Open a tournament
in which I’ve played in three consecutive
finals. “I am sure you understand that it is
a very tough moment for me since it is a
tournament I love and where I have great
memories from fans, the night matches,
so many things…

Jose Mourinho believes Cesc
Fabregas and Diego Costa
can take Chelsea to a higher
level after the summer sign-
ings shone in a 3-1 victory
over Burnley on Monday.
Chelsea surprisingly fell
behind to a Scott Arfield goal
at Turf Moor but they came
storming back as Costa, Andre
Schurrle and Branislav
Ivanovic all struck. Mourinho
was impressed with the way
his team played and paid trib-
ute to man-of-the-match
Fabregas and striker Costa,
who were both making their
competitive debuts for the
club.Mourinho is confident that
Chelsea are on the right path
to a successful season, having
had little time yet to work with
his whole squad after welcom-
ing many of his players back
late from the World Cup. “We
have had no more than six or
seven sessions with everyone
together but we knew the
direction we wanted to go,” he
explained. “I always thought
that Diego and Cesc would
bring us to the dimension we
want because they are differ-
ent players to what we had in
the past. “We need that striker
who can hold the ball and
have interaction with other
players, and we need that kind
of midfielder that dictates the
intensity in the centre.”
FROOME TO LEAD TEAM SKYChris Froome will look to make amends for the disappointment
of crashing out of the Tour de France by leading Team Sky’s
challenge for overall victory at the Vuelta a Espana. The 29-
year-old has been named in the British squad’s nine-man line-
up for the season’s third and final Grand Tour, which starts in
Jerez de la Frontera on Saturday and ends in Santiago de
Compostela on September 14. It will be the third time in four
years Froome has ridden the Vuelta, having finished second in
2011 and fourth in 2012. He will be one of three Britons in Team
Sky’s squad, with British national road race champion Peter
Kennaugh and Welshman Luke Rowe also selected. Froome
said: "This is exactly the sort of challenge that I need after the
disappointment of withdrawing from the Tour de France. You
can’t dwell on disappointment. You have to move on quickly to
next thing and the Vuelta has become the perfect race for me to
focus on. Froome was forced to withdraw from the Tour on stage
five after fracruring his left wrist and right hand in a spree of
three crashes in 24 hours. He later flew to the United States to
recover and resume training, before continuing his preparations
for the Vuelta at his home on the south coast of France. Froome
added: "I’m really pleased with how my recovery has gone since
the Tour. I have been training hard and the support team are
pleased with my progress.Team Sky’s team for the Vuelta a
Espana: Chris Froome (GB), Peter Kennaugh (GB), Luke Rowe
(GB), Philip Deignan (Ire), Mikel Nieve (Spa), Vasil Kiryienka
(Blr), Kanstantsin Siutsou (Blr), Christian Knees (Ger), Dario

RECOVERY IS KEYFOR TIGER
Tiger Woods says it would not have been fair to his team-mates
had he been picked for the American Ryder Cup team. The 14-
time major champion ended speculation about his selection for
next month's event at Gleneagles - which is being shown live on
Sky Sports - by withdrawing him-
self from consideration to fully
recover from a troublesome back
injury. Woods has struggled to
regain both form and fitness since
returning to action following
almost four months out after back
surgery in March. He withdrew
from the WGC-Bridgestone
Invitational in March after suffer-
ing back spasms, and he contin-
ued to look in pain as he missed
the cut by a distance at the recent
PGA Championship.

ROJO HINTS AT MAN UTD MOVE
Argentina defender Marcos Rojo has suggest-
ed his move to Manchester United is immi-
nent, describing it as a 'dream' to play for the
Old Trafford club. The Sporting Lisbon player
has emerged as a key target for United man-
ager Louis van Gaal, with reports suggesting
United will pay £16million for Rojo while send-
ing Portuguese winger Nani back to his former
club on a one-year loan deal. In an interview
with the radio station Continental in his home-
land, quoted in several national newspapers,
Rojo said: "It's a dream to play at Manchester
United and I am very proud of having the
chance of working with [Louis] van Gaal.
"I spoke with Juan Sebastian Veron about
Manchester United when we were at
Estudiantes. I have always liked English foot-
ball, and I should adapt to this new playing
style easily." United's move for Rojo has been
complicated by a row between Sporting and
his a third-party ownership group, while the
24-year-old player upset his employers by ini-
tially refusing to train in a bid to push through
the deal, although he later apologised and
returned to work. "There was a misunder-
standing, I never wanted to do something
wrong at Sporting as I have always been very
thankful to that team that gave me many
chances for playing in Europe," Rojo said. "If I
made a mistake, I have already apologised
because I didn't want to hurt the feelings of
anyone at the club."

PREMIER LEAGUEKICKS OFF
The premier league season kicked off at the weekend andhad all the thrills and spills we had been waiting for.Penalties, Red Cards, the introduction of the magic “Vanishing
Spray” and of course lots of goals! Man CIty got off to a good
start with their title defence with a comfortable win over
Newcastle, Arsenal grabbed a late winner against Crystal
Palace however Louis Van Gaals Manchester United flopped
against a energetic Swansea side who looked strong throughout
and despite United’s best efforts and a clever overhead kick
from Rooney the game got away from them. It looks like they will
need to sign a couple more key players to make a strong cam-
paign for a spot in the top four. Chelsea joined the rest of the top
flight with a 3-1 win over Burnely, the new comers showed good
energy throughout but the class of Chelsea’s star players over-
whelmed them. Fabregas made his
debut for Chelsea finding his feet in the team right away, he will
certainly be one of Jose’s key men this season. Spurs also man-
aged to carve out a win grabbing a late goal in stoppage time,
against West Ham. Spurs lost control of the match early on
when Chris Foy sent off Kyle Naughton in the first half for hand-
ball in the area, after looking at the replays you can agree that
Foy ws correct in awarding the penalty but the red card seemed
a harsh decision. Spurs continued to battle on and Big Sam
missed his chance to capitalise on the extra man after Collins
was sent off after recieving a second yellow card giving Spurs
the belief to grab the points in which they did in the closing
stages with Dier slotting the ball away.
