Their impression was verpositive, confirming m own favourable im-pression of last ear.During our first visit we met with Siddharth,the acting principal. He is a kind, gentle, in-telligent and inspiring man. It being a holi-da the school was ver quiet, so we couldspeak without being disturbed. Siddharth isver soft-spoken.

In 2003, the Vatsala NGO built a childrensvillage in the desert near Jaipur. Currentl,48 abandoned, often abused and trauma-tised street children are cared for in the vil-lage. The children are living there as broth-ers and sisters, with staff members as theirparents.This communal life in a caring famil isaimed at restoring their self-confidence aswell as their trust in the world outside thewalls of their protective village. That is thetask Vatsala has set itself.

The school is functioning well, the teachersteam is solid and the children love to come

to school. We saw them in the morning, wesaw grades 4 and 5 again in the afternoonfor the extra afternoon classes and in theevening we saw the older students at homework guidance and extra lessons. The stu-

dents were alwas hard at work, obviousl
