Hello People!

Another new year is upon us. What do you plan to do with it? People often have a list of resolutions and good intentions, but by the middle of the month, they give up or give less. This year, focus a little each day on the changes you want to see. It could be as easy as smiling at someone, opening a door for them, or taking a few minutes to call an old friend. A fresh start isn’t just January 1st –carry it with you all year long!

Cheers! Kathy and Dawn

Winter Wonderland Party Embrace

your inner child that loved snow days, sled riding and hot coco. We will have some wonderful wintery treats and fun ways to warm you up! Join our party on Wednesday, January 9th at 10:00 am.

It’s a “Lei’d” Back kind of Party.

Hula on over to our winter Luau! It’s flip flops, grass skirts, coconut bras and Hawaiian shirt time! Tan lines are optional. We may not be on an island, but we’ll crank up the heat, munch on tropical treats and get tipsy at the Tiki bar! The Luau is on Friday, January 25th at 10:00 am. Join in with Christine Coulson - hula dancing and singing at 11:00 am!

Winter Weather Just a reminder that

the senior center will close when the Bellevue Public Schools close due to weather. However, always keep your safety first when deciding to come in. If you are staying home, please call us with your cancellation for meals.

Quilt Raffle Carroll Holz brought in an unfinished

quilt his wife Phyllis had started. She passed away last year. The Thursday morning group and the quilters purchased more supplies and Renee Kenny finished the quilt. We are selling raffles during the month of January and proceeds will stay at the center.

Colds: Myth vs Truth Do you know the

difference between allergies, a cold or a virus? Do you feed a fever, starve a cold or put an onion in your sock? Nurse Theresa will be here on Wednesday, January 2nd at 11:15 am with the facts to prepare you for the cold and flu season.

We are very fortunate that ENOA was awarded more funding forour Tai Chi Program! It will allow us 2 classes a week, for more9 weeks! Tai Chi is an excellent way for seniors to work on their balance by strengthening their core. Our class size has been growing. No sign ups necessary, drop ins are always welcomed. Please check the activity calendar for the additional classesthat we added. We ask for a .50 cent donation per class.

Start your day with Breakfast! Let

us do the cooking for you. Enjoy a delicious egg breakfast, fruit, coffee and juice for only $3.00! We will be serving it hot on Tuesday, January 15th at 9:00 am.

Companion Program Beth from ENOA will

be here discussing the opportunities for seniors to work with seniors. The program is called “Senior Companion Program”. The companion provides short periods of relief for the caretaker. This also allows the senior to stay longer in their home. Maybe you have a few hours you’d like to give back. Maybe you know someone on needs assistance. Get your questions answered on Monday, January 14th at 11:30 am.

Family Fare Receipts We are getting closer!

Please continue to bring in your receipts – we are in need of about 30,000 points. Once we have enough points, we will submit it to Family Fare and wait to receive a check for $1000.00 !!!

Winner Winner! Evan Duran was our lucky cal-cutta winner! He split the pot with the center

taking home $330.00 and the center took in $330.00 too. Thank you to everyone who bought a ticket. And thank you to Beth for working so hard to sell the raffles.

Feeling Lucky?? Join us as we check out the newest casino – Prairie Flower Casino in Carter

Lake, IA. The bus trip is $5.00 – and you are on your own for spending – gambling and lunch. They do offer specials for seniors on Tuesdays – including $3.00 hot dogs. They have an age 55 and over Players Club and members can join it for double points on slot play until 8 pm. The shot to win $55 in cash with their Golden Age Day Hot Seat drawings is every hour from noon until 8 pm. Not a Players Club member? Just stop at their Players Club or Guest Services and sign up for free upon arrival. We will leave the center on Tuesday, January 8th at 10:00 am and return early afternoon.

TRIPS – We will just be having one trip this month. Lori who is our trip escort will be taking a much

deserved extended vacation !

Santa’s making a special delivery to the center sometime in the near future! We had such a successful fundraiser that we are able to purchase a special surprise for the center! Thank you to everyone who supports the center – buying 50/50 tickets, coming to the dinner, buying tickets for the baskets and for your donations!

New Year – New You !

We have a lot to offer at the Senior Center – something for everyone! Let this be the year that you try something new. We have lots of games – at least 12 different types

of games. We have various card games, dice & dominoes. Would you like to get a group together to start a new game group? Such as Pitch, Left-Right–Center, UNO, checkers, chess or something else? We’d love to see more involvement. Just let us know, gather your friends and pick a date. We will add it to our monthly calendar.

Do you want to shed a few holiday pounds? Looking for ways to increase strength or balance? We have 2 Tai Chi classes each week, and one exercise class – taught by

trained professionals. In addition to working your body, work your brain. We have a book club that meets once a month, a monthly Alzheimer’s support group, weekly

Parkinson’s exercise group, and a monthly senior care clinic.

If you have been a bit shy about attending a party, let this be the year you mingle! We have 2 parties a month. The snacks are delicious, and the entertainment is always

excellent! Usually 75-100 people attend our parties so there is a pretty good chance you may already know someone who is here. If not, then it’s a great opportunity to

make a new friend. The parties follow a theme, so dress up, be creative

and HAVE FUN!

Over the past few years, the Bellevue Senior Community Center has experienced tremendous growth. As wecontinue to grow, we are always looking for new ways to improve the center. Continuing to grow while facedwith today’s economy is not always an easy task.

Because of our growth, the Bellevue Senior Community Center has created another opportunity for seniors andothers to support us, The Bellevue Senior Community Center Booster Club. The Booster Club is a 100%voluntary club that supports the efforts of the center. The cost to belong to the Booster Club is $24 per year. Wepro-rate the cost if you sign up now to ONLY $2.00 a month!
