What Multiplication looks likeThere are multiple ways to express

multiplication:

3.4 x 53.4 • 53.4 * 53.4(5)(3.4)(5)

Steps1) Count how many digits are AFTER

the decimal in the problem.

2) Multiply like normal (ignoring the decimals)

3) Place decimal in the product (Answer) with the total number of digits behind the decimal

Objective – To divide decimals and solve problems by dividing

decimals

Dividing Decimals

Page 11: BELL RINGER Complete the following problems on your own paper 1) 0.123 + 5.4 2) 12.43 – 5.412 3) 21 – 3.49 4) 13.54 + 3.24 – 0.9

What division looks likeThere are 3 ways to write 1.2 divided by

0.3

1.2 ÷ 0.3

0.3 √ 1.2 1.20.3

Page 12: BELL RINGER Complete the following problems on your own paper 1) 0.123 + 5.4 2) 12.43 – 5.412 3) 21 – 3.49 4) 13.54 + 3.24 – 0.9

Vocabulary

Steps1. If there is a decimal in the divisor, move

the decimal all the way to the right turning the decimal into a whole number.

2. If you move the decimal in the divisor, you MUST move the decimal in the dividend to the right the same number of digits ( may need to add 0’s)

3. Take the decimal in the dividend straight up into the quotient

4. Divide.
