Being the best we can be for ourselves and God’s world Newsletter No. 29 1 st October 2018 S T M A R T I N S C o f E P R I M A R Y S C H O O L Dear Parents Thank you to everyone who donated harvest gifts - St Petrock's were delighted to receive such a generous donation and we have included a copy of their letter of thanks in this newsletter. It has been brought to my attention by several concerned parents that there are significant issues with road safety around the school in the mornings and after school. The governors, myself and the Parent Voice group are all petitioning local councillors to see if we can get anything done about the road structure itself. In the meantime please can I ask everyone to drive with extreme care and not to park anywhere near the entrance to the school or park on the pavement. If there are any parents who are interested in starting a walking bus from various parts of Cranbrook then please can you let me know and I will meet with you to take this forward. It has been wonderful to have such a fabulous turnout to our Celebration of Learning Collective Worship on a Friday morning (Phase 1) and a Friday afternoon (Phases 2 & 3). We love welcoming parents, carers, grandparents, the wider family and friends of the family to celebrate our children's learning, confidence and creativity. Tania Beard

As you know we place a high priority on the importance of children being in school and each term all the children with 100% attendance have their names put into a prize draw and the winning child is given a present. Can we please remind parent/ carers that registration is at 8:30am. If your child arrives after this time they will need to be signed in at the office for safety reasons.

Absence Reporting

If your child is going to be absent from school due to ill health can we please ask that all parents/ carers notify the school office by telephone (excluding Dojo) and not your child’s teacher. You can report an absence via the Absence line 24 hours a day and it is vital that we know the whereabouts of our children. Thank you in advance for your cooperation in this matter.

Attendance and Absence Reporting

We have had several reports from concerned parents and members of the community of children cycling to school in a way that could potentially be dangerous to them or to other pedestrians and road users. Please can you remind your child to take care of their own and others’ safety when cycling and scootering to school. It is now school policy that children must wear a cycle helmet if they wish to cycle to school. In the event of an accident a helmet can prevent fatal or serious injuries. Help From The Parent Voice The Parent Voice group continues to work hard on your behalf and at our recent meeting we had a focus on road safety. We are going to canvas for ways to make the roads around the school safer. We have a governor who is working closely with the Parent Voice group on this. If you would like to become a member of the Parent Voice group just hand your details into the school office and we will make sure they get to the Chair of the group.

HALF TERM FUN WITH

KITTY STONES…

Lisa Fribbens is a self-published author of children’s books based in Broadclyst and the Librarian at Cullompton College. During October half term she will be organising, with Kitty Stones of Cranbrook, a pebble hunt. Several sets of stones will be hidden in Cranbrook play parks with characters from her books painted on them. If the children collect the full set they receive a free ‘Scoot and the Wriggly Takeaway’ book. This fun activity will get children out and about during the holidays, allowing them to get excited about finding the treasure at the end of the hunt.

Piano Lessons

We have a piano teacher who offers, after school, one to one piano tuition for children on a Wednesday afternoon. AB is a trained concert pianist who trained in Moscow with some of the best pianists in the world. He has many years experience in teaching primary aged children and is currently teaching 2 of our children. AB has a few more sessions available.

If you would like further information, please can you give your details into the office and they will be passed onto AB who will contact you directly.
