Spring Break Begins Thursday, March 24 through
Friday, April 1
March 22nd and March 23rd were built in to the school calendar as Make-up Days. If we do not have any cancelations between now and March 22nd there will be NO SCHOOL on these two days.
Wow, only one day to go before
Spring Break. I hope every
Northside family has a chance to
spend quality time with each other
and enjoy a break from school for a
few days. Don’t forget we do have
school on Monday of next week. While we will be
doing some quality academic activities, we will have
some special activities that day as well.
Our Groovy Family Literacy Night was pretty far out last Monday. Take a look at the 6th grade
teachers dressed as flower children in the picture below. Students had a great time working on
figurative language, vocabulary, and compression skills with a psychedelic flare.
Science Central was here on Thursday. That black dome you see in the picture is the portable
Star Lab they brought us. It is an inflatable plane-
tarium used to project the stars and planets inside
for the students to watch an interesting video
presentation. The 6th graders dissected
sharks. While it was a little smelly down that
wing, they really enjoyed learning about what is
inside a shark and
how the parts
work. Fourth grad-
ers built satellites
and shot rockets for
distance at their Ex-
ploration Station.

MRS. BANTER
5TH GRADE LANGUAGE ARTS
During the school year, my classes have read multiple novels with many different themes. From the action-packed thriller Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, to the heart-felt, Holocaust time-period Number the Stars, the Civil Rights story of The Watsons Go to Birmingham-1963, and ending the year with the ever-popular Hunger Games. We complete many activities with each novel and have great discussions. Here are a few of the reasons why my students love reading these novels in class: Khalia Scott- “My favorite class novel is Number the Stars. It had a great perspective on the terrible historical event. Our class dis-cussions always have many different perspectives on the topic. Seeing different perspectives makes learning fun!” Evan Watt- “Percy Jackson is my favorite novel that we’ve read in class. It has lots of action and tons of details; Rick Riordan is one of my favorite authors!” Josie Oswalt-“ I like the Watsons Go to Birmingham-1973 because they’re people who are trying to make the family work and they’re trying to prove they’re NOT the Weird Watsons. Another thing I like about the book is that it’s funny with loveable family.” Spencer Parker- “ I like the class novels because we get to read as a class and my favorite novel is Percy Jackson.”
