Telephone Service
AnguillaCommunication of 18.III.1997:
Cable and Wireless (West Indies) Ltd., Anguilla, announces that a new geographical area code NPA (Numbering Plan Area) 264 has been assigned to Anguilla by the North American Numbering Plan Administration (NANPA) upon the request of the Government of Anguilla.
Anguilla will use the existing NXXs and subscriber numbers in the new NPA 264, i.e. the NPA 264 will replace the NPA 809 for all current telephone numbers. The NPA 809 will continue to serve the needs of the Caribbean countries remaining in the NPA 809. Cable & Wireless (West Indies) Ltd. on behalf of the Government of Anguilla, will be responsible for the administration of the central office codes within the NPA 264.
The introduction of the new NPA 264 will take place at 1159 hours (local time) on Monday 31 March 1997. The permissive dialling period, during which both the old NPA 809 and the new NPA 264 will be accepted in a dialled number terminating in the new NPA 264, will begin on the same date and will end at 2359 hours (local time) on Tuesday 30 September 1997. After the permissive dialling period, calls dialled to Anguilla NXXs with the NPA 809 will be routed to intercept.
Beginning on 31 March 1997 all new NXXs activated in Anguilla will be assigned in the new NPA code only. These new NXXs may be duplicates of NXXs already assigned in the NPA 809, and calls directed to these new NXXs in Anguilla must be dialled with the new NPA 264 code to avoid being routed to another destination in the Caribbean.
Test calls to verify routing to the new 264 NPA can be made by dialling +1 264 672 8378 (+1 ANG NPA TEST). The test number will be operational from within the NPA 264 on 1 December 1996. It is not expected that the test number will be accessible from outside the NPA 264 until shortly before the beginning of the permissive dialling. Calls successfully completed to the test number will receive a recorded announcement. In the event that calls cannot be completed to numbers in the NPA 264 please contact one of the following trouble reporting numbers: between the hours of 0815 and 1645 hours (local time): +1 809 497 3100, extension 449 (voice) or +1 809 497 5208 (facsimile). The test number will be disconnected on 1 October 1997.
As described below, the local dialling plan for the new NPA 264 will change from four digits to seven digits, however, calls terminating outside of Anguilla and operator services calls will be dialled in the same way as before.
· Prior to 1 March 1998, all Home NPA “local” calls will continue to be dialled on a four digit basis. Commencing on Sunday, 1 March 1998, all HNPA “local” calls will be dialled on a seven digit basis, i.e., NXX XXXX.
· All Foreign NPA (FNPA) direct dialled calls (i.e., overseas) will be dialled with a prefix “1” and ten digits, i.e., 1 FNPA NXX XXXX.
· All operator assisted calls including credit card, collect, and third party calls will be dialled with a “0” prefix followed by ten digits, i.e., 0 NPA NXX XXXX.
· Incoming Directory Assistant calls dialled as (NPA 555 1212), 264 555 1212 will be routed to the Anguilla Directory Assistance Operator.
Operational questions concerning the introduction of the 264 NPA may be referred to Michael C. Mussington, Senior Technician Operations & Planning (NPA 264 Administrator), Cable & Wireless (WI) Ltd., Anguilla, at +1 809 497 3100, extension 449.
All international and Domestic Carriers are asked to ensure that the new NPA 264 has been activated throughout their networks prior to 31 March 1997.
