The Little Red Hen
By: Brianna Eismont
One day a li*le red hen found a grain of wheat. She lived with some friends, a dog, a cat, a duck, and a goose. Once she got home, the li*le red hen asked, “ Who wants to help me plant this wheat?” “I won’t,” replied the dog. “Too sleepy,” yawned the cat. “Busy,” announced the duck.
“ I can’t,” honked the goose. “ Then I’ll do it myself,” retorted the li*le red hen, and she marched towards the garden to plant her wheat. She buried the seed in the dirt, watered it, and took care of it. As soon as the wheat was grown, the li*le red hen took the wheat and clucked,
“ Who will go to the mill with me to help grind this wheat?” “ I won’t,” replied the dog “ Too sleepy,” yawned the cat “ Busy,” announced the duck “ I can’t,” honked the goose “ Then I will,” accepted the li*le red hen. And off she went to the mill. While there, the li*le red hen found Rat, one
of the workers at the mill. “Hello Rat” the li*le red called. “Oh. Hello Ms. Red.” cried Rat, “How are you today?” “I was wondering if you could help me grind this wheat.” the li*le red hen said. “ Why of course m’am.” exclaimed Rat. “It would be a pleasure.” And he went over to the and turned it on. “If you could just hand me the wheat the I could put it on the mill.” squeaked Rat. Once the wheat was ground, the li*le red hen thanked Rat, and went home. When she got there, she asked, “Who will help me bake this bread?” “I won’t,” replied the dog.
“ Too sleepy,” replied the cat. “Busy,” announced the duck. “I can’t,” honked the goose. “Well, I guess I’ll have to do it myself.” said the li*le red hen. So she kneaded the dough, and put it in the oven. Soon, the kitchen smelled good. As soon as the li*le red hen took the finished bread out of the oven, she asked, “Who
will eat this bread with me?” “I will,” replied the dog. “Sure,” purred the cat. “ I could use a break,” announced the duck. “I can,” honked the goose. “Why would you when you never helped me prepare this bread,” asked the li*le red hen and she gulped it down.
