There once was a prince of Denmark,

Whose father was as dead as a doorknob.

He was very sad,

Also very mad

Because the father by the uncle was robbed.

The Prince moped around in gloom,

Until he was alone in a room.

When a ghost appeared,

He had no fear

Because the ghost presented good news.

“I am thy father’s spirit,

Art thou to revenge, now hear it.

Murderer most foul

Now wears my crown!

Avenge me, dear prince, now swear it!”

By these words the prince did excite,

Because now he had a purpose in life.

He then acted crazy

To make eyes hazy,

So the king would be none the wise.

Now to catch the conscience of the King,

The Prince said “the play is the thing!”

The Murder of Gonzago

And so the story goes,

That the play made the murderer come clean.

Now the King caught a whiff of the plot,

And then he knew that he aught

To send his step-son

To England at once

For the Prince to be killed and forgot.

The Prince, in turn, found out,

What his trip was all about.

A miracle then came

To save the Dane

By pirates the Prince was caught.

The King heard of the Prince’s return,

And decided the tables were to turn.

He devised a plan,

The scheme was grand,

The Prince would be fed to the worms.

But the King’s plan went array,

When the Queen drank the poisoned wine.

The men were slain,

By the havoc they made.

In the end, the royal family was dead.
