President's Report

Welcome to Season 2015!! We welcome all of our members, new and those returning to Baulkham Hills for another season. I certainly hope that everyone has taken an opportunity to grab a well-earned short break from netball and you are looking forward to a fun and friendly season. Every-one has been working hard behind the scenes to ensure our season runs as smooth-ly as possible and I’m sure all players and coaches are working hard at training to

ward their goals for the season. We wish you all the best of luck for your competition. This year is the 40th year of BHSNA and we have some exciting events coming up to help us celebrate this milestone. New Canteen

3

We have some big changes to go with our

new look for 2015!

Over the break the Association with assis-

tance from The Hills Shire Council has

carried out a full refurbishment of the

Canteen. Over $80,000 has been spent,

with Council providing just over $50,000

and your Association funds making up

the balance. It’s now all fresh and new.

Our menu has been updated with a

focus on healthy snacks - but we still

have all your favourites available.

Barista coffees and herbal teas will be

available

‘Tap & Go’ - EFTPOS will be available

at the Canteen and the BBQ so no

more scrounging for coins in the back

seat of the car….just tap and go.

Plus, tables and chairs will be set up for

you to enjoy your breaks during the day.

We have lots of new items to make your

time at the Netball Complex more enjoy-

able, so come over to see and taste the

changes.

Lights, camera, and action – can you hear

me down there?

During the off season there has been a

hive of activity at the complex and in par-

ticular three major projects were com-

pleted – canteen refurbishment, court

upgrades and maintenance and lighting &

PA upgrade.

Public Announcement system (PA)

For a few seasons now you have let us

know that it’s pretty hard to hear an-

nouncements, particularly if playing

around courts 23 to 39. We have carried

out significant maintenance to the PA sys-

tem. You should be able to hear every-

thing loud & clear!!

Court upgrades and maintenance

Upgrades to courts 15, 16, 18 19, 20, 21,

22, 23 have been completed and minor

maintenance work carried out on a num-

ber of other courts. Repair work was also

done in various areas around the Admin-

istration building and in the Gazebo area.

Replacement of Court and Security

Lighting

The court and security lighting have been

upgraded to modern and efficient

sporting complex lighting system standard. The original lights were installed in 1990 and

with the exception of globe replacements and minor repairs; no major refurbishment had

taken place since that time. For those of you training at night you might need your

shades.

Members will feel the benefit of a refurbished and revitalised complex when the first whistle blows to signal the commencement of Week 1 for the 2015 BHSNA Winter sea-

Umpires’ Utterings

6

Hello and Welcome to 2015 Netball Season Change in Umpiring Fixture for 2015 Season A neutral umpiring fixture will be used for all grades with the following exceptions. All divisions 9years, 8years and 7years will

be umpire your own game. Teams who play against the Junior Repre-

sentative teams in 13A, 15A, 21A and Open-A1 will umpire their own game.

Round 15 Tuesday 28 July will be umpire your own game.

St Paul’s Netball Club will always be allocat-ed to umpire their St Pauls 4 (PWD team) in the Open D2 grade.

Every other grade and timeslot will have NEU-TRALLY allocated clubs on the games.

Important Reminders for Players and Coaches Jewellery There is a Netball rule that states NO JEWEL-

ERY is to be worn. This rule is enforced by Umpires for the safe-

ty of ALL players. Coaches, please be proactive to ensure your

players know that they cannot wear any jewellery and they cannot cover any piercing with a Band-Aid.

Such players will NOT be able to take the court until the jewellery is removed.

A medic-alert bracelet taped to the arm is permitted for obvious reasons.

NetSetGo All 7years and 8years divisions use a 2.5m goal ring and goals may be scored through either goalring. All 9years, 8years and 7years use a Size 4 ball for the entire competition. All 9Gold, 9 Green, 8Gold, 8Green, 8Navy play under NetSetGO modified rules with a normal C pass

for the entire competition. 9 Netball division play under normal rules from round 1. Umpires on these age divisions should be experienced and act as ‘rule educators’ and not rule en-

forcers, therefore they should hold a current theory pass.

Congratulations to our National badged umpires who support our senior representatives playing State League. Netball NSW require a minimum of 78 each week and this Association is providing up to 12 each week. It is an extraordinary achievement.

Club convenors’ are invited to a Club Umpire Convenor Meeting to be held Tuesday 10 March, 7.30pm, Kellyville Admin Building. We have 8 new club convenors this year so this opportunity to meet other convenors, share ideas and have your questions answered should not be missed. Laurel Cunico Umpires’ Convenor

Coaching Corner

We had 56 players attend the Catherine Cox,

Kim Green and Sharni Layton coaching clinic

on 16.02.15. It was a fantastic opportunity

for the girls that attended to be coached by

Australian Diamonds and NSW Swifts players.

I expect to see many of the girls that attend-

ed trying some of their new skills on Satur-

days…….especially the Sharni suggestions!!!

Expect to hear a lot of noise from our circle

defenders.

The Foundation Course held on the 8/3/15

was fully booked with 11 participants signing

up to join in this wonderful opportunity .

NNSW have changed the way they want

these courses paid for and require all partici-

pants to book and pay NNSW online. More

information is available on our website. The following courses are still open: Founda-tion Course on 19/04/15 and Development Course on 17/5/15 Lynne Robertson Coaching Coordinator
