Senior member or the structural team responsible for the 3D modeling and spatial integration of scantling and Cat A seat information supplied from the stage 1 design team. I’m also responsible for the design/modeling of Cat B seats and aiding in the creation and validation of DSD (design standard details) Foran norms.

Responsible for providing engineering support and technical assistance for the build process of the CVF project, dealing with a variety of structural, piping and outfit issues. Liaising directly with the Client (MOD), their various field reps (DDA’s) and production to find solutions that are both acceptable to the client and practical for implementation on site.

While working within the engineering department I was responsible for assisting in the concept design and development of a very diverse range of sub-sea products, primarily for saturation dive systems but also in the renewable energy market. Main duties included creation of deck layout and instillation drawings for our shipyard clients. 3D modeling and engineering drawings for a verity of machined components, offshore walkways and pressure vessels designed to PD5500 both for manufacture and tender. I was also responsible for doing minor buoyancy calculations.

Working as part of a team to deliver the detailed design for the CVF project, I was responsible for 3D modeling and spatial integration of all internal/external structure and Category A seats, liaising with the design authority (Thales) through their various onsite reps to maintain design integrity. I was also responsible for the design of Category B seats (foundations). Creation of 2D structural and compartment layout drawings, creation of isometric build method drawings. Creation of bill of materials for sub contract builds. Responsible for nesting auxiliary structure (cat B & C seats) and was the main liaison with the outfit team to make sure they were complying with the build requirements. During this period I was also seconded to BAE Systems Barrow in Furness during this time to assist them in producing production output drawings.

Working on the both the Scotstoun and Govan sites I gained experience in all aspects of Naval/Commercial Ship Steel construction including; Reading and interpreting technical Drawings in association with Deck/Bulkhead construction, Unit/Bulkhead erections. Tasks included the manufacturing and installation of all steelwork outfit including large Auxiliary seating, tanks, platforms, engine space walkways and false flooring. Liaising with design team to address issues with production drawings, design, construction and installation with all aspects of steelwork and outfit.

Once my apprenticeship was completed the chance for a secondment to the yard in Barrow in Furness arose. A group of steelworkers, from the Scotstoun and Govan yards, with experience in building surface ships were required to aid in the build. I took it as a great compliment someone of my age and relative in-experience was selected to go. Responsible for repairing deflections, misalignments and all other aspects of ship repair.

I was responsible for all types of fabrication/welding work across a wide range of steel work preparation. In this role I was involved in Outfitting a T23 Frigate for the Royal Navy and was also involved with the build of the OPV’s. I was required to manufacture products used in the shipbuilding industry. I learned to read drawings and take of and/or detail materials that required to be manufactured in the workshop. Good communication skills were required to liaise with the customer, management and shop floor to result in bespoke quality products. I have learned how to use a varied amount of machinery have learned how to sketch and also to produce drawings manually by Attending College

for 3 years and on the job training. My time at Anniesland College provided me with the opportunity to attain my NC’s in Fabrication and Welding and also Shipbuilding.
