Sale Information

Supplemental Information:Scrotal measurements and ultra-sound carcass data will be posted to the website in advance of the sale and will also be available on sale day.

Sale Order: A sale order will be provided on sale day. Animals have been cataloged by section, according to age.

Terms & Conditions: Terms of the sale are cash unless other arrangements have been made.

Viewing:Visitors are welcome at the ranch anytime prior to the sale. Videos of the animals will be available at BBRedAngus.com in early February. Animals will be available for viewing in the afternoon on Feb. 16th, and a meal will be served in the sale barn.

Volume Discount:A 5% volume discount will be given on the purchase of 3 or more bulls.

Bidding: If unable to attend the sale, bidding arrangements can be made with a buyer representa-tive or with Mark or Jeremy. All bids will be handled in strict confidence. Call in advance to make arrangements. DVAuction will be available for online bidding. See page 41 for online bidding instructions. Any bidding disputes will be settled by the auctioneer.

Announcements:Announcements made from the sale block on sale day take precidence over the catalog.

Feeding:Bulls will be kept and fed free of charge until April 1, 2016.

Delivery:Free delivery of bulls within a 300 mile radius. Delivery arrangements can be made at least possible cost to the buyer for furthur distance. If needed, we can assist in making delivery arrangements for heifers at least possible cost to the buyer. We ask the ship-ping on heifers be made as soon as possible.

Lunch:Complimentary lunch will be served prior to the sale.

Buyer and Breed Representatives

Guarantee:Bulls are guaranteed to breed. A breeding soundness exam will be conducted prior to de-livery. If a bull is proven unable to breed from that exam, buyer will be given a full refund of purchase price, credit on next year’s sale, or a replacement bull of equal quality as ac-ceptable to buyer. If a problem arises with a bull, please notify Barenthsen-Bullinger Red Angus immediatly.

All bulls carry a first breeding season guarantee. A breeding season is defined as the 90 day period following the first turnout of the bull. If a bull is injured permanently and unable to breed cows, we will replace him or give credit in next year’s sale, less salvage of the injured bull.

Yearling heifers are guaranteed open and breedable. Bred heifers are guaranteed bred safe with calf.

Insurance:Mortality/Loss of Use Insurance will be available on sale day through Stockmens Insur-ance. Agent Jim Bessler will be present, or can be reached in advance at 815-762-2641. Barenthsen-Bullinger Red Angus will again be offering cost share on insurance premiums for qualifying bulls. Further information will be available on sale day.

Health:All bulls and heifers are in good health and are on the Select Vac program. Bulls will be given a breeding soundness exam by Marshall Hermanson, DVM, and will also receive two doses of Fusogard for foot rot prior to delivery. All heifers are bangs vaccinated. All animals have been poured with Dectomax.

There are many considerations and decisions to be made when planning for the year ahead. We are reminded how fortunate we are to be involved in agriculture and especially the cattle business. Over the years we have made many new friends and developed successful working relationships. Assisting you in making sound breeding decisions for your livestock and the success of your operation remains our top priority. Good choices made today will impact the long range goals you have set for your operation.

It is important to utilize technology and EPD’s as tools for selection. We place even greater importance on phenotype, disposition, sound feet and udders, as well as calving ease and stayability. 2016 marks 40 years of performance testing in our operation. We realize how important weaning weight and cow efficiency are for profitability to the producer.

The offering this year features progeny from some of the most successfully proven herd sires anywhere. In addition we are excited to offer progeny from PIE Cowboy Kind 343 and LSF Jumbo 3104. These bulls are creating a lot of interest around the country and these will be their first sons to sell to date. As always the calves were raised at their mother’s side on native grass with no creep. They were weaned mid-October and are being fed a mixed ration to gain 3 pounds/day. We do not feed for maximum rate of gain. Our common sense feeding program helps to protect the feet and longevity of the bulls.

5016 is a solid heifer bull prospect! We have used Packer with great results in our AI program over the years, but 5016 is one of just a few Packer calves that we are offering in this year’s sale. He is out of a Cowboy 26X daughter that carries a 102 MPPA. He is a clean fronted, well designed calf that still shows the thickness that we like to see heifer bulls maintain.

Anticipation is a Genex sire that we have been using selectively in our AI program for a few years now. 5022 is a very complete Anticipation son. His dam, purchased from the Sonstegard program in MN, has fit into our herd well. 5022 is well designed, and has a 715 lb. adj. 205.

Take a close look at this herd bull candidate. Sire, Saga 1040, has proven his excellence all across the country. Notice the added thickness and muscle of 5029. His dam stems from Nordlund Stock Farm in Minnesota and was one of the high selling bred heif-ers we purchased at the Red Select Sale. We think 5029 is a top pick herd bull.

There is a lot of interest in Sun King 016 progeny. He produces great females and calves with extra volume and capacity. 5045 is a tank and will be one to notice on sale day. Notice his 810# adj. 205 and his high ranking EPD’s. His MGS is Right Kind U199 and his dam produced one of our top selling herd bulls that sold to Sandhills Red Angus last year.

Right Solution 3071 was a top pick at Loosli Red Angus in Idaho. He has done exactly as expected. He produces exceptional performance as well as good calving ease. Look at the spread from birth to weaning. Notice his 718# WW which ranks in the top 7%.

Herd Bull Alert! 5220 is a thick-topped, long-sided bull that is one of the top prospects in the offering. There are several things that make this guy shine. First, Dam 2057 is a young Packer daughter with a strong cow family and a 110 MPPA. 5220 stands out phenotypically, but when you look at the num-bers, you have to be even more impressed. He started with an 81 lb. birth weight and pushed to a 792 lb. weaning. He ranks in the top 1% for WW and YW, in the top 14% for HerdBuilder, and top 12% for GridMaster. He deserves some serious consideration.

5006 is definitely a top ranking heifer bull prospect. Notice he ranks in the top 8% CED and 7% BW. His sire, Z150, has proven himself for calving ease with high accuracy. We appreciate the moderate frame and excellent phenotype of Z150 progeny.

Take a close look at the opportunity this calf has to offer. He will work on heifers and also has the ability to grow into your herd bull. Notice the phenotype and muscle of Cowboy Kind progeny.

The outcross pedigree on this guy provides some outstanding genetics in the background. We purchased his mother from DK Red Angus at the ND Red Select Sale last winter. She is a Right Kind daughter with a 106 MPPA. 5001 is a level designed thick calf that stepped on that scale with a 785 Adj. 205. We really appreciate the added length and muscle shape in this calf. Take a close look.

Heifer bull candidate! He has a 75 lb. birth weight and ranks in the top 5% BW and 10% CED. Sire, Sun King 016, has developed a reputation as a calving ease sire that produces excellent replacement females. It is hard to find a heifer bull with as much growth and muscle as 5015 has to offer.

Look at the over-all balance and thickness of the Cowboy Kind progeny. 5023 has a pedigree full of performance and breed leaders. Dam 0170 consistently produces high ranking calves each year. Consider 5023 to increase weaning weights with added muscle.

5017 is a big, stretchy Packer son. He is out of a larger framed Logan cow and she certainly passed on some of her characteristics. He is long bodied, level topped and still shows some rib shape. We have used Packer for quite a few years and he really complements our herd well. 5017 should pack some pounds into his offspring.

5028 is out of Cowboy Kind 343. We have been impressed with the Cowboy Kind calves and this one is no exception. 5028 is a moderate framed, balanced calf that has a stylish look.

5031 is the real deal. He is a large framed, long bodied calf that has a dark cherry red color. His dam produced our high selling bull in 2013, going to John and Sarah Berg, Williston, ND. She has a 107 MPPA. 5031 is a very complete Cowboy Kind 343 calf. Note the 781lb. Adj. 205.

We only had a couple of Chicawa bull calves last year. He has been a very good calving ease herd sire with added growth. 5044 is a long sided, smooth made bull that should work well on heifers. Note he ranks in the top 10% for BW.

5041 is a heifer bull prospect that has a solid birth to weaning spread of 71 lbs. to 753 lbs. His dam is a Summit daughter with a 104 MPPA. Chicawa has been a long time sire in our program and has not disappointed. Note the top 7% for BW and top 8% for REA.

Anticipation 101W has been siring dark red progeny with added style and muscle. 5049 has excellent phenotype, eye appeal, good muscle, and quiet disposition.

5047 is an AI calf out of LSF Saga 1040Y. He is very long-sided, level-topped, and pos-sesses a solid set of figures. He ranks in the top 50% for almost all numbers in his EPD profile. 5047 will be a strong candidate for those looking to maintain a strong balance of traits in their herd.

5050 is a larger framed Cowboy Kind son that has the herd bull look. He is a well put together calf that is out of a stout made Sequoia female. This calf has plenty of rib and muscle shape.

A good looking Z113 calf that is dark red in color. Our Gallatin herd sire ranks in the top 9% HB and 14% GM.

Use 5052 on heifers. He has a 70# birth weight and -4.0 BW EPD. Dam 8117 is a smaller framed, low birth weight cow.

Big Horn Z150 has produced another prospect with low birth weight and excellent performance. Notice the thick top and rib shape of Z150 progeny. Here’s a great heifer bull choice.

5056 is another good Sun King calf with the same type of volume and capacity that we have come to expect. Notice he ranks in the top 6% GridMaster and top 6% Marbling. He should produce some high yielding feeder cattle.

Big Horn has been a calving ease specialist and 5051 is going to follow suit. He is a dark red, smooth made bull that is out of a Direct Design daughter. We will be calving out our first set of Bighorn daughters in 2016 and anticipate that we will be happy with their production.

5053 is a smooth fronted, long bodied bull with calving ease to make him a heifer bull prospect while still weaning off at nearly 700 pounds! He is sired by Saga and out of a Big Sky daughter. A really nice maternal brother sold to Jordan Jensen, Powers Lake, ND in our 2014 sale.

5097 is a prospect for serious consideration. Dam 2172 produced one of the top sellers last year to Greg Rauschendorfer. She is sired by Sun King 016 and has a 106.8 MPPA. 5097 has a 797# adj 205 and has an outstanding EPD profile. Jumbo 3104 sires excel-lent performance and stamps his dark red color.

Right Solution 3071 is developing as a calving ease sire in our herd. He has an out-standing EPD profile and ranks in the top 6% or less in eight different categories. 5112 is a stylish, moderate framed heifer bull prospect.

Dam 2011 had a beautiful Gallitan son that sold to Blom Red Angus, Vida, MT last year. This year she produced another good calf out of LSF Jumbo 3104. 5095 is a dark red calf that is deep sided and thick. He weaned off at 720 lbs, has a WW and YW EPD that rank in the top 8%.

Heifer bull prospect! 5096 is a well-designed calf that also possesses a very strong, balanced set of number from birth, to growth, to milk. He is out of a 5L cow that was purchased in their 2014 fall sale.

5119 is a moderate framed, thick designed, well put together calf that weaned off at 733lbs. He has some strong blood lines backing him, sired by our Direct Design 102W bull and also having Direct King 7144 in his background. This pedigree definitely adds maternal value.

Cowboy 26X has been a herdsire that has added muscle and performance. 5159 is a stout made bull out of a Sequoia 6072 daughter with a 106 MPPA. He ranks in the top 6% for both WW and YW.

There is a lot of genetic value associated with this calf. He is a good looking, stylish 3104 son that has a nice birth to weaning spread. He is out of a Packer daughter with a 103 MPPA.

Sire Gallatin Z113 sires dark red, moderate frame and good disposition. Dam stems from Campbell Red Angus in SD. 5178 will be a top pick for use on cows.

MGS is Chicawa 366. He has produced many good replacement females for us. 5182 has a 712# adj 205 and ranks in the top 16% WW.

5189 will sire progeny with dark red color and a moderate frame. MGD has produced several replacement females in our herd.

Check out the heifer bull pedigree, numbers and phenotype here. 5184 is a smooth made bull that is in the top 15% for CE, BW and Top 1% CED.

When you sell your calves by the pound you need performance. 5187 will add perfor-mance to nearly any herd. We bought our Jumbo 3104 sire to add length, muscle and overall gainability. We are very happy with his first set of calves. 5187 is a big-boned, deep-sided, stout made calf that weaned off at 723 pounds.

This is a well desinged bull that should work for use on larger framed heifers. He is a dark red calf out of a GMRA Charger 6135 who has a MPPA of 102.

Sun King has produced many outstanding females that just seem to work. 5195 is a nicely designed calf that weaned off with a 719 lb. adj. 205. He is out of a Chicawa dam with a 106 MPPA. Note that 5195 ranks in the top 7% for Milk.

HerdBuilder Index (HB): An index used to estimate differences in profitability for the sustainability of the cowherd. This index was created on the assumption that an operation raises its own replacement females and terminally markets the remainder of the calf crop on a quality based grid. Given that replacement heifers are retained, primary influence is placed on maternal traits such as Stay, HPG and CE. MARB, YG, and growth EPDs also impact this index, but to a lesser degree.

GridMaster (GM): An index used to estimate differences in profitability for those whose primary goal is to maximize profitability in the feedyard and on the rail. This index was created on the assumption that an opera-tion markets all of the calf crop terminally on a quality based grid with no replacement females being raised. MARB, YG and growth EPDs are traits of primary importance in this index.

Calving Ease Direct (CED): Predicts the probability of calves being born unassisted from two year-old heifers. Selecting on actual birth weight is flawed; it is influenced by non-genetic factors such as nutrition and weather. While the BW EPD removes these non-genetic factors, the CED EPD is the best predictor of calving ease. CED includes variation in BW plus other in-fluential genetic factors such as gestation length, calf shape, etc. The higher the CED EPD, the less calving difficulty.

Birth Weight (BW): Predicts the difference, in pounds, for birth weight, and is also used in the calculation of the CED EPD.

Weaning Weight (WW): Predicts the difference, in pounds, for weaning weight (adjusted to age of dam and a standard 205 days of age). This is an indicator of growth from birth to weaning.

Yearling Weight (YW): Predicts the expected difference, in pounds, for yearling weight (adjusted to 365 days of age). This is an indicator of growth from birth to yearling.

Milk: Predicts the difference in maternal production of an individual ani-mal’s daughters as expressed by the weaning weight of their calves.

Maintenance Energy (ME): Predicts the differences in maintenance energy requirements of mature daughters of a bull. The lower the ME EPD, the less feed daughters require to maintain body condition. Heifer Pregnancy (HPG): Predicts the probability of heifers conceiving to calve at two years of age.

Calving Ease Maternal (CEM): Predicts the probability of a given ani-mal’s daughters calving unassisted at two years of age.

Stayability (STAY): Predicts the probability of a bull’s daughters remain-ing in the herd until at least six years of age. Females that don’t stay in the herd that long are losing money, and they also contribute to higher rate of replacement females that the rancher can’t cash crop.

Marbling (marb): Predicts the differences for carcass marblingscore as expressed in marbling score units. Higher marbling scores are positively correlated with higher carcass quality grades.

Rib Eye Area (REA): Predicts differences of carcass Rib Eye Areabetween the 12th and 13th rib. Increased Rib Eye Area has a beneficial ef-fect on Yield Grade which also includes Carcass Weight and Fat Thickness.

12th Rib Fat Thickness (FAT): Predicts differences for carcass fatdepth over the 12th rib, as expressed in inches. Increases in fat thicknesshas a detrimental effect on Yield Grade.
