Oracle Fusion Middleware and Components

• Dozens of components make up what Oracle now brands as "Oracle Fusion Middleware”

• For the core Banner applications we are only concerned with the following:

• Oracle Weblogic Server

— Provides Java functionality (Java EE)

— WLS replaces OC4J


— Oracle Fusion Middleware built on top of WLS

— Required for any Banner OFM installation

• Oracle Fusion Middleware - Portal, Forms, Reports and Discoverer

—Required for INB and SSB installation

— Includes Forms and Reports as well components required for SSB

—OFM utilizes WLS for its J2EE services

11g Fusion & WebLogic Requirements

• 11.1.0.7 (11.1.0.6 plus patch 7) on DB Server is required

• Banner 8.3 or higher

• Space on your INB/SSB Servers (The Install is much bigger)

• Oracle WebLogic Basic 10.3.2 (10.3.3 works as well)

• Oracle Fusion Middleware 11.1.1.2.0 (11.1.1.3.0 works as well)

• JPI6U20 (Java Plugin) seems to be most compatible with IE and FireFox

• Sun 6 JDK or Oracle JRockit

—Java versions of note:

• Recommend Separate Server(s) for INB/SSB (NEW INSTALL)

• NEW! Starting with 11.2.0.2.0, upgrades are no longer delivered as patchsets, but as full installs ("out of place upgrade")

• Implications:

—New Oracle Home needed for each upgrade

—More disk space required


—No need to install base release then immediately patch

—Quarterly CPUs and PSUs will be applied to the 4-digit release

—Easier fall-back in case of problems

—Should probably name the Oracle_Home with 4 digit release
