BAM2015 CONFERENCE REPORT
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY The BAM2015 Conference was held over 3 days at the University of Portsmouth from the 8
th – 10
th September
2015, hosted by the University of Portsmouth. BAM2015 was the highest in terms of attendance with 882
delegates registering for the conference. Additionally, BAM2015 was the biggest in terms of papers with 956
being submitted. 719 of these papers were presented and 840 delegates attended from 40 countries.
Following on from the 2014 conference there were no major changes made to the BAM2015 conference.
Of the 882 people that registered for the conference, 206 delegates (23%) of delegates have been kind enough
to provide BAM with their feedback of the event. The feedback has been very positive; however there are
certain areas which BAM could look to improve upon for next year.
KEY DEMOGRAPHICS
882 participants registered in total
840 delegates attended (95%)
40 different countries were represented at BAM2015.
23% of registrations (197) were from academics based internationally; an increase from 22% (175) of
delegates at BAM2014.
245 (29%) delegates attended the PDW sessions.
39% of delegates were either full-time or part-time students (259 full time and 88 part time)
415 (49%) were first time delegates
262 institutions were represented at BAM2015; this was an increase from 250 institutions
represented at BAM2014 conference.
The gender breakdown is as follows: Males (51%) Females (49%).
KEY FEEDBACK
The location was a real plus for delegates due to the close proximity of the buildings.
The vast amount of networking opportunities available at the conference was a highlight for
delegates.
64% of the delegates said they would go to the BAM conference again if their paper was accepted.
Delegates stated that the quality of papers has significantly improved and the feedback received on
paper was very helpful for future research.
73% of delegates would prefer to keep the hard copy of the programme
The best months for delegates to attend events are April, May, June and July.
The mean likelihood that delegates will recommend the BAM Conference has increased to 7.9; an
increase from 2014.
PDW’s and the New Members Welcome Breakfast were popular and should continue next year.
The lack of variety in food was a problem for delegates this year.
Navigation could have been improved at the conference.
SUGGESTIONS
BAM should vastly improve the quality of food at the Gala Dinner as delegates felt it was not worth
value for money.
BAM could investigate simplifying the registration process and adding membership fees to the
conference price.
BAM could provide more variety of food at the conference such as fresh fruit and salads.
BAM could consider providing certificates at the conference for delegates as proof of attendance.
BAM could publish the conference proceedings earlier in advance so session chairs have time to read
the papers.
There should be stricter guidelines for people who continually do not turn up to present.
BAM could consider having a female plenary speaker.

Comments
Gala Dinner
- A number of delegates commented that the food at the Gala Dinner was utterly appalling and the
cost of attending the Gala Dinner was far too expensive for what is offered and have suggested they
will consider their attendance future gala dinners,
Accommodation
- Delegates complained that a lack of hotels around Portsmouth meant that they had to stay further
out of town.
- Delegates criticized the quality of the student housing on offer and BAM should provide more
thorough information about the accommodation.
Other comments
- Delegates found connecting the Wi-Fi at the conference was problematic and time consuming.
- Delegates would prefer online printing facilities that they can use if they need to print out slides.

THE ADMINISTRATION OF THE BAM2015 CONFERENCE.
28% of respondents provided comments on the administration of the BAM conference.
Comments
Delegates felt that there were too many emails sent out and BAM should consider condensing
this information into one email.
Delegates would prefer fewer flyers in the delegate bags as they did not find it useful.
Delegates would prefer shoulder satchels instead of the bags supplied at the conference.
The booking system for the SIG AGMs needs to improve as some restaurants had no recollection
that a booking had been made.
Delegates would prefer to receive a certificate of attendance at the conference.
Session chairs need to be informed that they are chairing a session as a number of delegates
found out through the programme.
BAM should email delegates with what sessions they are registered for as many delegates were
confused by what they had subscribed to attend.

THE ONLINE ASPECTS OF THE BAM2015 CONFERENCE.
26% of respondents provided comments on the website features
Main Complaints
Navigation - Perhaps the most common complaints were about the difficulties users had in navigating the
website. Some users complained that there was too much information, so they had to “study” the website to
find what they needed.
Log-in Requirements - Another common issue was the log-in requirements. Some users find it difficult to
remember their user-name and passwords, and others were annoyed that there were individual log-ins for
both the website and the conference.
Other Comments
Delegates would prefer emails addresses to be included on the online delegate list so they can
communicate easier.
Delegates want USB sticks provided.
Make the conference proceedings accessible further in advance of the conference.
Delegates would prefer the conference fee and membership fee to be processed together.
BAM should allocate the programme a month in advance to give delegates time to prepare and
choose which sessions they want to attend.

PLEASE RATE THE QUALITY OF THE DIFFERENT TYPE OF SESSIONS. IF YOU DID NOT
ATTEND THE SESSION THEN PLEASE COMPLETE N/A.
30% of respondents gave feedback on the quality of the different sessions:
Paper Sessions
Quality – the quality of the sessions was very good and had improved from previous years.
Organise distribution and pre-reading of developmental papers for comments from the participants
and Chair in sessions. This would make the sessions more useful in providing feedback to authors, as
well as a platform for deeper and more focused conversation and debate at the sessions.
Good sessions but it is disappointing when people are registered and don’t turn up. This is of course
out of BAM’s control but it does impact the scheduling and moving between sessions.
Some of the developmental papers I attended were poor quality and one paper was accepted after I
recommended it to be rejected due to plagiarism.
Developmental papers were high quality.
PDWS
Really like the idea of PDW’s, but went to one, hoping to get some ideas how to improve as a
reviewer for journal papers – but didn’t learn anything new. Most things I had heard in the Meet the
Editors session and the content of the PDW could have been delivered and discussed in 20 minutes.
Registering for PDW’s – found out we couldn’t attend as the room was beyond capacity. Very
disappointing.
Plenaries
Opening plenary – keynote speech could have been better – it raised a lot of questions but did not
provide any recommendations – what is the speaker doing to address these issues?
Why does the keynote have to be ‘male’? Why doesn’t BAM choose a woman, with an interesting
speech for a change?

New Members Welcome Breakfast
New members welcome breakfast – excellent idea and well organised, but experience varied. Some
SIGs were well organised and others less so. One SIG group I went to didn’t have any experienced
members present.
New Members Welcome Breakfast organised into SIGs was a brilliant idea. Gave opportunity to
connect with people straight away.
Bring back the cooked new members breakfast.
Track Sessions
Track sessions I attended were very well run and it was excellent to receive good quality feedback on
my paper. I have made a number of valuable contacts as a result of the conference that will help my
career development. An excellent conference, I am very glad I attended.
Some tracks need to reconsider their rejection rate. It is better to have fewer papers presented and a
higher quality. Some of the sessions were quite poorly attended and I think if there are less parallel
sessions this would help. It is not great that some tracks accept up to 90% of submissions.
All session I participated in were well run and the standard of papers was generally high.
There is a problem with people not showing up to present their papers. This needs to be more
carefully enforced in future. Also, the process for reviewing could be more streamlined, particularly
for authors with papers in multiple tracks.
Quality of papers left a lot to be desired. Seemed as if some tracks struggles to get papers and
accepted whatever was submitted. Some tracks need to up their game.
Sessions chairs must be those who are well informed for a particular session.
Meet the Editor’s session
Meet the editor’s session was too general, thus not so useful.

Hygiene factors again: I was not permitted entry to the main lecture over ten minutes before the
plenary started due to it being at capacity. I had to sit on the staircase and attempt to watch the
proceedings over the video link. We couldn’t see the slides Alvesson displayed for starters; so much of
what he referred to remained decontextualized. On speaking with colleagues later there were
numerous spare seats available.

Comments:
Funding from my institution
Time constraints
Quality of papers and feedback and also SIG support.
Workload and funding.
Topic of my research is quite inter-disciplinary

IF NO, PLEASE STATE THE REASON WHY AND IF YES, WHAT WAS THE MAIN PURPOSE
IN VISITING THE EXHIBITORS?
General interest
Look at current text books and forthcoming ones for the units I teach on.
Seeing what’s out there.
See what new publications were out there.
Too busy chatting to people and going to sessions!
Seeing publishing company people
Look for new materials as well as the opportunity to publish
Hardly any time... the programme was so full.
Discussing publishing plans
Exploring the content at the exhibition stands.
Getting a physical feel for some relevant journals. Sometimes finding some new interesting
books.
Too busy presenting papers and chairing sessions.
Always a good opportunity to look at new book titles. I don’t get often time to do this between
work and home.
I wanted to see some recently published books, and to speak with the OUP editor and to see if
my OUP textbook has been exhibited.
I did not visit the exhibitor’s stands due to attending other events, PDWs, which I thought would
be more beneficial to me and my study.
DO YOU HAVE ANY ADDITIONAL FEEDBACK REGARDING THE EXHIBITORS AT THE
BAM2015 CONFERENCE?
Good to discuss potential projects.
We understand that they are necessary. I wasn’t interested in visiting them.
Once I know the BAM conference better, I hope to have more time to browse.
Great to maintain and renew relationships with publishers.
Make the price of books cheaper.
It is very important to have exhibitors at the conference. I think there were not enough
exhibitors to generate enough interest.
Get more vendors to show up.
Publishers do not follow up with emails; the stalls are not always managed by enthusiastic
staff from publishers.

HOW DID YOU FIND THE MEET THE AUTHORS TABLE AT THE CONFERENCE?
DO YOU HAVE ANY COMMENTS ON HOW ‘MEET THE AUTHORS’ COULD BE IMPROVED
FOR NEXT YEAR?
I did not attend the table but I will do next time.
Difficult to talk whilst eating so ended up going hungry.
Perhaps give it a more dedicated space.
I made notes and thought this was a good session.
There was no seating available so perhaps ensure that seating is provided and clearer signage is
noted.

WHICH ASPECTS OF THE CONFERENCE WERE NOT USEFUL OR DIDN'T WORK AND
SHOULD NOT BE REPEATED NEXT YEAR?
The cost is too high
Organised discussion for developmental paper sessions with pre-reading of submissions. More
discussion around suitability and trends in specific journals for publishing papers.
Catering could have been better organised – in Portland Building it was late out and they left all the
containers sealed so people were struggling to get into them. The plates were too small.
More free time so you get the chance to network more as it seems very compressed. It is goo dhtat
there is so much going on but even an extra session when nothing much is going on would be good to
encourage more networking which will facilitate research collaborations. BAM’s strength is in its
diversity of tracks and multi-disciplinary streams so being able to exploit this more within the
conference would be great.
There seemed to be a bias towards PhD students and early career researchers this year and it would
be good to try and attract back some more of the senior researchers/experts to enlighten discussions
and give guidance.
Gala dinner – this needs to be made much cheaper or abandoned. Absence of provision of
proceedings in some form for delegates to take away.
Choice of accommodation, from a university perspective, needs better thought. However I realize this
may not be a BAM matter. There were a lot of people signed up for this conference, and at times
rooms became full. Whilst this may reflect an inclusive philosophy, I’m wondering if BAMs popularity
will become a future weakness. The balance between inclusivity and exclusivity needs monitoring on
a yearly basis.
Developmental papers should be targeted for PhD students only, and the slot for each paper should
be increased to 35-40minutes each in order to achieve a more meaningful and thoughtful discussion.
Gala dinner was really poor. This needs to be improved substantially, or should go. I will not attend
the gala dinner in future years.
One issue is the no-shows meant gaps in the programme rather than re-arranging the session. Chairs
should be able to reorganise the session so that no-shows become an opportunity.
Size of the conference was too large to properly network.
Too many things going in parallel. Many times I felt confused which session I would be going to.
The printed program should be better organised in regards to design and time slot allocations.
Confusing.
Meet the editors – should be repeated but with more detailed advice on publications.
A stricter quality control over developmental papers would mean the developmental paper sessions
are productive.
Don’t have the SIG AGM’s at the same time. I would have attended two or three if possible.
I felt I lost my time going to one of the PDW’s. You need to be more selective and understand what
exactly is going to be discussed. Due to the fact that different tracks were in different buildings not
much space for cross-fertilisations of ideas, coffee discussion, and networking with academics from
other Tracks.
Booking for informal meals – this didn’t work for the IOC SIG. – The dropout rate of presenters from
the programme was quite high.
Schedule should be arranged in a better way. Topics should be spread; that is similar topics should not
be held on similar times. I had 3 or 4 papers I wanted to attend but they were all at the same time,
while at other times, I did not have any interest in papers presented.
WHICH ASPECTS OF THE CONFERENCE WERE PARTICULARLY USEFUL AND SHOULD BE
REPEATED NEXT YEAR?
65% of respondents gave feedback on what they thought was useful at the BAM conference:
- The developmental papers
- SIG AGMs and meal.
- The timing of the Meet the Editors session was much better this year.
- The PDWs were excellent
- BAM team organisation is always extremely good… I particularly like the way sessions are organised,
so that all tracks work to the same session and one can move between them as the interest varies.
- Research methods sessions were very useful. It was good to be able to choose the sessions to attend.
- Attending the workshops and building a network.
- Pre-booking SIG informal meals – great for networking.
- The networking opportunities were fantastic.
- The location –Portsmouth was great. There was plenty of staff to talk to in the event of any queries.
- Lively and friendly.
- Great opportunity to meet other journal editors.
- Quality of papers presented and level of discussion afterwards.
- New Member’s welcome breakfast.
- Established commentators providing feedback to each participant, together with more junior
perspectives, which provides for interesting and rounded view on the strengths and weaknesses of
the developmental papers.
- Generally this was a particularly good conference. Those involved are to be congratulated.
- Developmental papers are really useful for research that is work in progress and should definitely be
continued.
- The format is great. The opportunity to do PDWs and plenary sessions on the first day is a really good
format.
- I enjoyed interaction with people attending the Marketing and Retail full paper presentations. I liked
the red bags provided.
- The location of the buildings.
- General format is good. One of the main benefits is networking. Important to keep this feature.
- Symposium and industrial visit in the Management and Business History track worked well and we will
aim to repeat.
- A plenary talk as good as Mats Alvesson would be appreciated.
- Workshops where you can present and get feedback on a paper which is developed.
- Opportunities to meet with people I had not seen in a long time and to forge new connections with
other SIGs
- I liked the long lunch and coffee breaks – gives a chance to meet with folks and even have project
meetings. Good centrally located venue, everything within walking distance.

ASIDE FROM THE CONFERENCE, WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE IMPROVED OR ADDED
TO THE MEMBERSHIP SERVICES YOU GET FROM BAM THROUGHOUT THE YEAR?
Online webinars
Workshops on Methodology
A journal strategy that puts the onus on all journal editors to develop, rather than exclude, the
broader BAM community. More standalone BAM – as distinct from SIG activities.
A tour of Portsmouth.
Need to put on workshops for people aspiring to be journal editors. Advanced workshops on
structural equation modelling would be informative.
More networking opportunities.
Since I am not a UK resident, receiving hard copy of BAM journals is highly appreciated as I have
already given the access to the online content via the university licence.
Website is not user-friendly. It seems that you click on something and then you have to go and login
and then it has lost the thing you selected so you have to find it again. Also when I joined was by
Direct Debit and it was ages before I got the invoice which meant I reclaim the costs until sometime
after paying.
More activities among SIGs in the North of England.
Opportunity to publish papers with the support from three or four star journals.
Please give more information about career opportunities in academia.
To provide the conference grant to anyone so that the participation from developing countries could
be maximised (in case their papers are accepted by BAM)
Being in Australia I can only attend the conference but updates through email etc. is always good in
terms of feeling part of the community even at a distance.
Being a doctoral student, I wish if I could have the support and further feel of the academic
community, what works and doesn’t work in academia, what’s out there in UK academia for me, what
could be my career prospects and how could I make my way among these so many academic giants –
so a bit of guidance, bit of support to make me a professor soon.
Virtual opportunities for collaboration.
BAM should think about increasing intellectual vitality in response to global developments. The
community seems stuck in a variety of ruts. New directions need to be explored and fresh possibilities
engaged with.
Mentoring.
Campaigning role for BAM.
More events organised on publishing papers.
More training sessions.
Cheaper Gala Dinner prices.
Guide on thesis writing.
Maybe some networking suggestions, information on who is who in the research area and suggested
linking.
The financial framework around what SIGs can spend their budget on is too rigid.
Help continue network and idea discussion.
Hardcopy of conference proceedings.
More information on offices in London and how you can work there and where they are situated.
Opportunities to attend workshops throughout the year.

“The Portsmouth BAM conference 8th
– 10th
September was my third BAM conference after
Belfast and Liverpool. After the Titanic Museum in Belfast and the Liverpool Anglican
Cathedral, it was difficult to top the event location. However, the GuildHall was a fantastic
venue, dinner was excellent and dancing was just absolutely perfect. A big thank you to
Monika and the team for organising this great event. Besides the Gala Dinner, the SIG dinner
and private events, the conference sessions were an ideal location for academic exchange
among professionals. Giving feedback and receiving feedback in a relaxed but professional
way is key for the success of the BAM conference. The animated discussion in the various
sessions I chaired or presented are testimonies for the excellent exchange of ideas and
bringing research further, receiving input for future research and ideas. Bravo,
congratulations for an excellent BAM conference. Especially the weather! Was gorgeous. See
you all in Newcastle for 2016”
Ursula Schnizel,
“BAM is an excellent conference for PhD students to get detailed feedback on their research”
Anon
“BAM is a place where you can meet the best minds in the world without an appointment. It
could be that the best mind could be sitting next to you, conversing with in an engaged
manner, providing feedbacks and you realise only when he/she has left. A great place to be
to improve, test, discuss, debate your existing knowledge and take it to the next level”
Anon
“It was a great learning experience attending BAM2015”
Prerna Bansal, New York Institute of Technology
“BAM is certainly one of the best conferences carried out in Europe, and possibly all over the
world. Papers, sessions, organization and possibilities to network with other researchers is
exceptional. Overall, a must see and must participate for everyone in management”
Tomasz Ingram, University of Economics in Katowice, Poland

“BAM conference is an intellectually learningful event. Every year I attend I can learn
something useful for my research and teaching career. To me, this is one of the fastest ways
of learning and development of learning academics. I wish universities would invest more
time for academics to professionally develop through this type of academic event”
Hong Bui, University of Southampton
“BAM is quite inspiring, engaging and educative”
Anon
“This conference not only met, but exceeded all my expectations. The amount of quality of
information that I gained – especially during the developmental and full paper sessions will
irrefutably support me in better research design and implementation. Getting first hand
advice for great gurus in my discipline and opportunities to build networks were really
something that I would treasure and cherish through my PhD journey”
Amizan Omar, Brunel University, London.
“Very good conference experience overall”

communicate, network, benefit and learn from experts around the world. A place to be for
those who seek knowledge. I look forward to being part of the good idea next year”
Leonard Ngwa, University of Wales
“Great location and some very interesting conversations. Loved the gentle but very sharp
dissection by the keynote speaker Prof Mats Alvesson. How did we allow this to happen to a
supposedly evidence based and grounded open minded community. Because we allowed it.
Keith Thomas,
“BAM2015 conference in Portsmouth was very good. Thank you to the conference

if you have a topic to talk about). It’s a great opportunity to listen (and talk) to experienced
academics – there’s so much to learn”

“Good choice”
Anon
“Take some time to research the papers that are going to be presented (and the authors’
previous work). It’ll help you have better conversations and as a result make the experience
more meaningful”
Anon
“Spend some time looking over the programme and look for things that will interest you but
that may be outside your normal field work. Go to at least one thing you don’t know about”
Anon
“Attend all sessions, engage with the main themes, communicate, network and avoid excess
at Gala Dinners”
Anon

“Be open minded. Attend the whole conference. Do not only stay for your own paper
presentation, but arrive at least one day before the conference and leave 1-2 after the
conference, to allow for sightseeing. Discuss as much as possible with fellow conference
participants. Use all the time for networking and socialising. Get feedback for your research,
for further research and for new papers. Use the coffee, lunch breaks and the Gala Dinner for
discussions with others, for networking and socialising. Use your mobile phone, your digital
networks – but benefit from the excellent networking in person opportunities that BAM
conference offers. Making friends is part of it! Good luck”
Anon
“Get out there and mix with the different SIGs, Tracks and activities generally”
Kevin D Tennent, The University of York
“Don’t hold back and you will get a lot out of your colleagues here”
Anon
“Enjoy”
Anon
“Do not be afraid of speaking to people”
Anon
“It is not so scary as you think when presenting for the first time or indeed times after”
Anon
“Attend! Attend!! Attend!!!”
Anon
“It’s not a huge conference, which is good – gives the participants ample opportunity to
meet up. I find the pace relaxed (so we are not rushing from session to session, can have a
chat over coffee) and supportive (people aren’t out there to show how much they know).
Developmental papers sessions allow more people to attend – if you haven’t completed your
paper, it’s still ok to come and get feedback”
Anon
“Map out and write down what you want to achieve by attending the conference”
Anon
“Prepare – you are going to be challenged and your ideas are going to become a sandwich
for experienced scholars”
Tomasz Ingram – University of Economics in Katowice, Poland

arrange in advance to meet colleagues and other people with whom you want to spend time;
don’t be shy or worried about introducing yourself and starting a conversation – everybody
was incredibly friendly and willing to share their experiences and knowledge”
Anon
“Don’t be afraid to approach people and get involved with conversations. People are
genuinely interested in your research and are keen to provide support and guidance”
Anon
“Be keen to details and be able to network with different scholars”
Anon
“Find out more of what is available and the organisers might look at providing a single sheet
of key activities to attend”

Would you like to offer any feedback?
I wish I had more time discussing with other people in the track of e-Business and e-
Government. Arranging some short events gathering certain groups of people for more
discussion would be a great idea.
Do you have suggestions for what type of events would you like to attend?
The current combination of tightly-themed workshops/seminars days have been highly
productive, as has facilitation at the 2 day PhD workshops.
If it can fit in my schedule, I would like to participate in events in relation to information
systems, system innovation and e-Business.
Developmental paper, full paper, PDW and workshops.

This is the first Entrepreneurship event that I have attended. I found colleagues to be very
enthusiastic about their subject.
A very well organised track.
Entrepreneurship SIG did not have a symposium.
Do you have suggestions for what type of events would you like to attend?
Journal reviewer’s session. How to write a paper.
Events that relate on key trending issues in the field; doctoral days to present as well as get feedback;
improve writing, employability workshops and networking events.

Would you like to offer any feedback?
I sort of have two SIGS because of the two projects I am working on – one is on gender in retailing and
the other is on international franchising in retailing so I went to each of some SIG. I am probably
registered with Marketing and Retail SIG but the paper I presented this time was in Gender in
Management SIG.
As this was my first time to attend BAM, I was surprised at the high standard of the Gender SIG; the
people were so helpful and friendly and offered me excellent advice and guidance on my research.
Everyone was so easy to talk to and I was travelling alone so really enjoyed going to the SIG meal and
meeting people.
Do you have suggestions for what type of events would you like to attend?
I am a member of the Professional staff at my institution but looking to build up a publication list
again – I used to be a lecturer in Marketing up to 2003. So I look at what is on and if it seems relevant
to my work and several projects I am connected with then I am interested to attend.

Would you like to offer any feedback?
The HRM SIG had no workshops or events organised bar the AGM
The HRM SIG needs a revamp. It seems stale and not really leading the way with HRM discussions.
Giving the stage to a certain journal in its inception for so long was too much.
I found some papers to be quite excellent, while others mediocre. I did not find the quality of
research to be consistent.
Do you have suggestions for what type of events would you like to attend?
SIG HR was not accommodating.
Events that critique HRM or adopt a more critical approach to discussions about HRM.
Networking and workshops.
As discussed at the AGM – PhD/ research skills development workshops
Talent Management
Any programme that is positively related to my SIG/Track.

Thanks to the organizers for their hard work and application.
Both Sandra and Christine as Track Chairs and SIG Chairs made every effort to be inclusive
and clear in approach. As a result, the Identity Stream was well attended, stimulating and
resulted in valuable discussion. Much appreciated by this delegate.
Do you have suggestions for what type of events would you like to attend?
Workshops, current research/co authoring
Working papers
Running/attendance at an event will depend on the funding mechanism and supporting the
provision of SIG workshops, which is being taken up by a BAM working party.

Perhaps bits more advance advice to those giving papers in Developmental Paper sessions about the
format of the sessions. Many presenters were unclear as to the format, and as a result had brought a
full presentation as back up. Nevertheless, these sessions were well chaired and this wasn’t a major
problem in the sessions themselves.

As discussed at the SIG AGM and from the BAM KM
My last year experience for the BAM SIG event was quite good. I would like to attend any type of
event within the area including hot agenda and emerging topics.
Joint events between the Knowledge and Learning SIG and the HRM SIG.

The trip to the Block Mills was fantastic. Thank you to Monika for ensuring we could clarify
registration on the program – wonderful experience for all, most memorable and very interesting
indeed.
I feel this track should be promoted to full status as a SIG.

Excellent sessions and very good Track Chairs.
Not all full papers seemed to be worth presenting.
I couldn’t see the point of discussing the awarding of best paper to “attending” or “not attending”
delegates. I thought the time could have been better spent on more pressing items like the direction
of research in Marketing and how do we address the support.

Would you like to offer any feedback?
SIG meal was incredibly good value at £30 per head for good food and plenty of wine, hence my
comments earlier about the conference meal as this was almost half the price but far superior – Great
discussions within the track so fabulous opportunity to get real feedback and to develop work – Good
diverse range of research on offer which is great for starting to build new research networks.
The conference really needs a Project Management SIG. PM is all over the place at the moment.
It’s a great SIG. Lovely people and great networking
Do you have suggestions for what type of events would you like to attend?
Various – depends on topic as I engaged in wider teaching of operations and supply chain
management as well as researching various areas.
Can’t say anything now.

We are not yet a SIG and there is some diffidence about becoming a SIG and becoming enmeshed in
bureaucracy and losing our current strengths of diversity, care and encouragement for young and
early-career scholars.
Important to try and avoid a clutch of weak papers in one session. Many sessions excellent but one
very poor.

Would you like to offer any feedback?
Murray Clark and Gail Clarkson are excellent chairs. I think that the best thing about BAM is the SIGs.
Definitely the most engaging SIG.
Do you have suggestions for what type of events would you like to attend?
I get the opportunity to express ideas about SIG events through the Research Methodology SIG. This
question is, this, superfluous if SIGs function properly.
The ones that are running – as in previous years.
Getting qualitative research published.
