Standing on the Knavesmire, The Residence towers over this pleasant open parkland, providing

Sitting alongside The Residence is York Racecourse. This historically significant course opened for its first meeting at the Knavesmire
in 1731, more than 280 years ago.
Named the ‘Racecourse Association Overall Showcase Champion’ York attracts around 360,000
racegoers per season. Having recently won ‘The Flat Racecourse of the Year Award’ the venue
is one of the premier tracks in Europe.
There are many spectacular York Races,including the Ebor Festival, considered the North
of England’s equivalent of the Royal Ascot. York’s flagship race, the Juddmonte International, has recently been rated the best race in the world
by the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities.
The racecourse is also a stunning venue for hosting private events, whatever the occasion. An
amazing facility quite literally on the doorstep of this unique development.

The purpose-built factory on Bishopthorpe Road opened in 1926 and was the last home of the
iconic confectionery making business, Terry’s of York.
Designed by leading architects of the day J.G. Davies and L.E. Wade, these buildings were clearly
designed to make a bold statement about the status of the company, one of the major employers
in the city with its products and name beinginextricably linked to York.

Constructed with brick cladding over a massive steel and concrete frame, the overall character is
of a sturdy domineering functional building.
The distinctive window keystones and the decorative stone banding bring a certain
elegance and a definite Art Deco style to this mighty structure.

The imposing ‘Palace’ frontage can be seen as a reflection of the importance and confidence of the chocolate industry in the 1920s - locally,
nationally and internationally.
This magnificent building remains a significant and dominant feature within the
