Recognized at the international level as a center for higher education andresearch, Università Bocconi has maintained fruitful relations with leadingcompanies and institutions for over a century, in Italy and abroad. The admissions process strives to recognizepotential and rewards ability, motivation and merit, regardless ofnationality or the economic conditions of the student’s family.

Over recent years, the University has implemented an investment policy tosupport deserving students, through an increasingly extensive system offinancial aid packages assigned according to student profiles andeconomic conditions. Means-tested tuition and fees, scholarships,exemptions and partial exemptions, tuition for international mobility,graduation awards and other funding all offer a large number of studentsthe financial peace of mind necessary to complete a their studies atBocconi.

To facilitate student applications and to allow families to evaluate theactual financial commitment needed to attend the University beforeenrollment, the admissions application and any financial aid applicationshave the same deadlines and timeframes and must be submitted together.Information about both admission to Bocconi and any financial aid thathas been awarded will be communicated before enrollment, whenstudents confirm their place at the University.

Applying to university entails a number of steps: at Bocconi we try tosmooth the way for international applicants by providing step-by-stepinstructions for the admissions process. Please take a moment to readthrough the overall process here, and then follow the detailed directionsfor each step:

Bocconi is a selective university that limits the number of entering studentsin order to provide living and study conditions that best enable all studentsto complete their degrees. A total of 2675 first-year students will beadmitted for the 2013-2014 academic year within the 5 Bachelor degreesand the Law program offered by Bocconi.As we go through the admissions procedure in more detail, importantdates and deadlines for every step will be provided. An overview of thesedates and deadlines can be found in the table on page 15.

In addition, starting in the 2013-2014 a.y., an innovative new programtaught entirely in English will be offered: the World Bachelor in Business,developed in partnership with USC University of Southern California’sMarshall School of Business and Hong Kong University of Science andTechnology. There will be a separate admissions process for the WorldBachelor in Business. For information and deadlines regarding thisprogram, please see page 31.

❯ 1. Choose the undergraduate programs that suit you best

Before you begin your application, make sure you are an internationalapplicant. This basically depends on the high school you attend. If you areattending a school in a foreign country or an international school (in Italy

or abroad), you will be considered an international applicant for theadmissions process.The majority of first-year international applicants to Bocconi apply forour Bachelor of International Economics, Management and Financeprogram. For the a.y. 2013-2014 we will open four class groups (about500 places) in this program, which is taught in English. Bocconi reservesmore than half of its places in this program for international applicants. If you are fluent in Italian, you can also apply for any of our other degreeprograms held in Italian or pick Italian programs as your second and thirdchoices on your online application, even if your first choice was theprogram in English. Four of Bocconi’s Bachelor programs (the program inEnglish and three programs in Italian) have a common curriculum basiswhich allows students to change their program of study after the first threesemesters, based on merit and availability of spots. Please check ourwebsite for details about Bocconi’s undergraduate offer, in order to choosethe best program for you.

❯ 2. Choose an admissions session

For the 2013-2014 academic year, starting in September 2013, threeadmissions sessions are planned:❯ winter❯ spring ❯ fall

The majority of places for international applicants will be offered duringthe winter and spring sessions. Up to 65% of all places in Bocconi Englishprograms and up to 10% of all places in Italian programs are reserved forinternational applicants participating in the winter and spring admissionssessions. The fall session is a viable alternative for those who, for whateverreason, cannot be ready for the earlier sessions, but there are fewer placesavailable by September and none are specifically reserved for internationalapplicants.

Important Details

Winter and spring sessionsApplicants are evaluated on the basis of their marks for the third-last andsecond-last years of secondary school, an aptitude test (the SAT, ACT orBocconi test), CV, personal statement and certificates (e.g. language, IT).There is no minimum SAT or ACT score required in order to apply. If you have an outstanding grade point average for the second-last and third-last years of school (for example at least 8 out of 10 in the Italian system orequivalent), an aptitude test is not a compulsory element of evaluation.Please visit our website (www.unibocconi.eu/undergraduateadmission) forinformation about the average marks in your school’s grading system required toskip the test (SAT, ACT or Bocconi test).Even if you have outstanding grades, you may wish to submit your SAT or ACTscores (or take the Bocconi test) as a further element in evaluating yourapplication.If you decide to not submit test scores, you will need to submit your highschool syllabi for math and English subjects* for the third-last and second-last years of high school.

Applicants participating in the winter session who are not admittedcannot participate in the spring session. These applicants can, however,take part in the fall session.

❯ 3. Fill out the online application

The online application includes compulsory and optional sections – pleasefill in as much as you can.You will be asked to declare your first choice of study program, plussecond and third alternative choices.For the winter and spring sessions, you will also be asked to provide yourhigh school grades on the online application: if you have an outstandinggrade point average (at least 8 out of 10 in the Italian system orequivalent), you have the option of skipping the aptitude test requirement:you will be required to submit your math and English academic syllabi*.Remember, you can check our website to be certain you have convertedyour marks correctly. If your third-last and second-last grade pointaverage does not meet the requirements, you will need to include your SATor ACT score or choose to take the Bocconi test in Milan. If you opt for theBocconi test, be sure to specify in which language you want to take the test(English or Italian). Please remember that for the online applicationduring the fall session, a test (SAT, ACT or Bocconi test) is alwaysmandatory, even if you have outstanding grades.The online application also requests information regarding any Englishlanguage certificates, and/or IT certificates held by the applicant. Pleasenote that the Bachelor of International Economics, Management andFinance has specific language requirements; see page 17 for details.When you have clicked to confirm the application, you should print outthe application summary, the documentation checklist and the returnaddress label.Please also remember that you will have to pay an application fee beforecompleting the online application process.

Important Details

To apply online, go to www.unibocconi.eu/undergraduateadmission >Application and Results, select the link available on the section ”OnlineApplication” and fill in the Registration section in order to obtain the personal IDand password necessary to access the online application.The online application includes compulsory and optional sections, andapplicants are encouraged to fill out as many of the optional parts as possible. All compulsory sections must be completed in order to confirm the application.When you click on the “confirm” button, your application will be consideredcomplete.The application fee must be paid by credit card using PAYTOOL online whensubmitting the application form. The application fee is €100.If you would like to change your application after confirmation, follow theinstructions in the FAQs section at www.unibocconi.eu/undergraduateadmission.

❯ 4. Prepare and send your dossier

For this step you will need to assemble a dossier that includes all therequired documents listed below:❯ A copy of the application summary you have printed. If you have chosen

to take the Bocconi test, your test registration details (with informationsuch as classroom and time) will appear on the application summary

❯ Photocopies of the original certificate of your SAT or ACT scores, if youchose one of these tests during the online application

❯ Photocopies of your complete high school grade reports for the third-lastand second-last years (with grading system conversions indicatinghighest possible grade and lowest passing grade), translated into Englishor Italian

❯ Photocopies of any language and/or IT certificates❯ A personal statement essay of about one page❯ Your CV (résumé)❯ Academic syllabi for math and English*, if you are not taking an

admissions test (SAT, ACT or Bocconi test)❯ One passport size color photo attached to the proper form and signed in

the provided space

Bocconi will not accept any application that does not include properdocumentation. It is to your advantage to send your dossier as soon aspossible. In particular, if you have any doubts about converting yourgrades, it is wise to leave enough time to take the SAT, ACT or the Bocconitest in Milan.You can check online to see if your dossier has been received and if it iscomplete by clicking on the link “Communications from Bocconi” in theonline application area.

Important Details

If you have not yet received your official SAT or ACT scores by the deadline forsubmitting your application, you can attach a copy of the unofficial score to thedossier and submit the official scores when they become available. If you wouldlike to take the SAT or ACT, be sure you apply for the exam as soon as possible,as it usually takes around 2 months to receive the test results. We recommendyou take the SAT or ACT in the fall of 2012 so that results are available on time.There is no minimum score required. If you have outstanding high school grades (at least 8 out of 10 in the Italiansystem or equivalent) and decide not to take an admissions test (the SAT, ACT orBocconi test) you will need to submit your academic syllabi for math andEnglish for the third-last and second-last years of secondary school*. Syllabimust be original copies, with the school seal and translated into English.Applicants with outstanding high school grades are still welcome to submit SATor ACT scores as an added part of the application.We strongly suggest you submit your dossier as soon as possible, especiallyif you choose not to take an aptitude test (SAT, ACT or Bocconi test). If your highschool grades are not as stated on your application and do not meet therequirements, the Admissions Office will request that you complete yourapplication by taking the Bocconi test in Milan in February or April 2013.Please use an envelope large enough to avoid folding documents. The returnaddress label will be available to print at the end of the application procedure,which should be placed on the envelope for mailing. Remember that theBachelor of International Economics, Management and Finance hasspecific language requirements (see page 17 for details).

❯ 5. Aptitude tests (SAT, ACT or Bocconi test)

The SAT Reasoning Test is a standardized test for college admissionsadministered by the College Board; it measures literacy and writing skillsthat are needed for academic success in college. The SAT consists of threesections: Critical Reading, Mathematics, and Writing. Each section isassigned a score on the scale of 200–800.Bocconi is mainly interested in scores from the Critical Reading andMathematics sections.For more information on the SAT, check the website www.collegeboard.org.The ACT (American College Testing) test measures high school students’general educational development and their ability to complete college-level work with a multiple choice test covering four skill areas: English,mathematics, reading and science. The four main tests are scoredindividually on a scale of 1-36, and a Composite score is also provided,which is the whole number average of the four scores.Bocconi is interested in the ACT Composite score.For more information on the ACT, check the website www.act.org.The Bocconi admissions test is a general aptitude evaluation, not aneconomics or business exam. It lasts 90 minutes and includes around 100multiple choice questions.On the online application you can choose to either provide SAT or ACTscores or take the Bocconi test, which may be taken in English or Italian.Details on test registration, including classroom, time and the languageyou have chosen will be stated on your online application summary.

❯ 6. Enrollment: Confirm your place

You will know if you have been accepted by one of the dates listed below,according to when you applied. Look for the admissions results atwww.unibocconi.eu/undergraduateadmission. To access the results, usethe personal ID and password you were given when completing the onlineapplication.

If you have been accepted, congratulations! The Admissions Office will bein touch via email regarding the validation of your high school diploma.You will also receive more information about the University before yourarrival on campus in September.To enroll and confirm your place in the program you have been acceptedto, you will need to:❯ complete the online enrollment form❯ submit the €1,543 payment. This is an advance payment of the first

tuition and fees installment. Instructions on payment methods areavailable online at www.unibocconi.eu/fees

❯ send the enrollment application, which can be printed after filling out theform, along with a photocopy of the advance payment receipt and aphotocopy of a valid form of ID/passport to the Admissions Office. Thedeadline will be announced when admissions results are publishedonline.

For Bachelor of International Economics, Management and Financestudents only: send a copy of a valid English language certificate to meetentrance requirements, if you have not already done so.

Important Details

Depending on your secondary school, you may need to simply submit theoriginal copy of your diploma to the Admissions Office (IB diplomas, forinstance, do not require legalization), or a translation and/or a “declaration ofvalue”, which must be requested from the Italian embassy or consulate of thecountry your diploma was issued (see page 20 for details). The AdmissionsOffice will be available to support you throughout this process.Non-EU citizens must also request a visa from the Italian embassy orconsulate located in their country of citizenship. Please remember that thetime necessary for these procedures can vary from country to country, so donot procrastinate. We recommend submitting a visa application by May 2013at the latest.

7. Final enrollment

The last step in completing your enrollment takes place when you get toMilan in September. The Admissions Office will schedule a meeting withyou. There you must submit the following:❯ the original copy of your high school diploma (with any necessary

declaration of value and/or translation)❯ original copies of English language certifications (only for students

enrolling in the Bachelor of Economics, Management and Finance)❯ official SAT or ACT scores (if not already submitted)❯ the receipt issued by the Italian post office to request a permit to stay if

❯ Secondary school diploma requirements

If you completed your secondary school education at a non-Italian highschool, please keep the following Italian Ministry of Education, Universityand Research mandatory regulations in mind when applying:❯ To be admitted to an Italian university, applicants must possess a

diploma from abroad equivalent to an Italian secondary school diploma(maturità) which is recognized by Italian authorities, or the maturitàdiploma itself.

❯ To be considered valid, the diploma must be translated and legalized bythe Italian Embassy or Consulate in the country where the diploma wasissued, regardless of the school’s actual location. For example, thediploma of a German school which is located in France must bevalidated by the Italian consulate in Germany. The embassy or consulatewill provide a declaration of value for the diploma.

❯ The foreign diploma must be obtained at the end of a period of studylasting at least 12 years.

❯ If the diploma was obtained after 10 or 11 years, it must be integratedwith 1 or 2 years of college or university, with all exams passed, in orderfor it to be considered valid for admission to an Italian university.

❯ The International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma is valid for admission to anItalian university without a declaration of value.

❯ The International Baccalaureate certificate is not valid for admission toan Italian university.

❯ The European Baccalaureate, French Baccalauréat and OIB (OptionInternationale du Baccalauréat) and German Abitur are valid foradmission without a declaration of value.

❯ International applicants who are required to take a qualifying academicexam for university admission in their home country (e.g. Gao Kao,Veveosi Prosvasis, Matura, YGS) must pass that exam in order to beadmitted to university instruction in Italy. Passing this exam will beverified when enrollment is finalized (September 2013): if it has notbeen passed, enrollment will be canceled.

❯ In order to be considered valid, a US High School diploma must beintegrated with either one year of college (having passed all exams andalready admitted to the second year), or two years of college (havingpassed all exams and already admitted to the third year) plus four

Advanced Placement tests. Università Bocconi will consider as validAmerican diplomas that include at least 5 AP courses in differentsubjects passed with a minimum grade of 3 out of 5. Please see ourwebsite for a list of subjects recognized by Bocconi.

❯ GCE diplomas are valid only if applicants show they have passed 6different subjects, 3 of which must be advanced (A level) and whichrelate to the program requested. A declaration of value is not requiredfor these diplomas.

For any questions about the validity of your secondary school diploma weadvise you to contact the Italian authorities in the country in which youreceived your diploma.

❯ Language certificates recognized by Università Bocconifor admissions

To apply for a program taught in English, you must meet one of therequirements listed below. For details regarding the check on English language requirements pleaserefer to enrollment finalization.To apply to Bachelor programs in Italian, there are no specific languagerequirements. It is, however, strongly advised to have basic knowledge ofEnglish (level B1 on the European Council scale).In addition, possession of one of the English language or IT certificateslisted in the table below will be considered as another element to beassessed during the admissions process.These language certificates – indicated by the applicant in the onlineapplication – will be considered for the admissions process only ifpreviously obtained and if sent (as a copy) by the deadline. This applies toall admissions sessions. All certificates received after the deadline date willnot in any way affect the result of the admissions process. However, theyare useful in determining the correct courses in English for the applicant’sstudy path.

The table below lists the English certificates recognized during theadmissions process and those which are required for admission to theBachelor of International Economics, Management and Finance.Certificates, which are listed in alphabetical order, are weighted differentlyduring the admissions process based on the level of knowledge that iscertified and the score obtained.

❯ Entry visas

All students with citizenship from countries outside the EU are required toapply for a student visa.To obtain a student visa, you must apply at the Italian Consulate in yourcountry of citizenship, which will provide you with a list of the documentsnecessary to get your visa (visa requirements vary for each country andconsulate).Please keep in mind that Italian authorities accept requests for studentvisas only in May/June. In order to ensure a fair system for tuition and fees, Università Bocconiforesees 4 income brackets adjusted to the economic and patrimonyconditions of the student’s original and de facto family for Bachelorprograms and for the program in Law. Income brackets will be assigned as aresult of this evaluation, starting with the highest income bracket of around€ 10,500, the 4th income bracket; 3 other income brackets may also beallotted, with the lowest rate of around € 4,700 for the 1st income bracket.The table lists the tuition and fees for the current academic year. Incomebrackets and fees for the 2013-2014 a.y. will be published on the websitestarting from February 2013. To identify individual income brackets usingthe evaluation method established by Università Bocconi, applicantsshould refer to the parameters, regulations and documentation indicatedon the Tuition and Fees Office website. BPM loan for university studiesBanca Popolare di Milano has created two loan options for studentsenrolled in a Bocconi degree program. Both EU and non-EU students whoare enrolled in a Bocconi degree program can apply for the loan.

Deutsche Bank loanGerman students who have completed high school diploma in Germanyand who enroll in a Bocconi degree program can access a low interest loanwith Deutsche Bank by directly contacting a bank branch in Germany.

Università Bocconi offers students around 1400 housing spots in 5University Residence Halls: Residenza Bocconi, Residenza Donna Javotte,Residenza Spadolini, Residenza Arcobaleno and Residenza Dubini.Approximately one third of spots are offered at a reduced rate (access tothis kind of housing is based on the economic situation of the student’sfamily) and approximately two thirds of spots are offered at the full rate(assignments for the first year are based on a first-come first-servedranking).Online applications for full and reduced rate housing may usually besubmitted in June.A description of the residence halls and the services offered are availableon the website. World Bachelor in Business

For the 2013-2014 a.y. Università Bocconi will launch a new four-yearfirst level (undergraduate) degree program, in partnership with USCUniversity of Southern California’s Marshall School of Business and HongKong University of Science and Technology.The World Bachelor in Business program provides an education in theareas of business and management. It is an innovative educationalprogram in the area of global higher education. The class group will be made up of 45 students, who will attend theirfirst year at USC Marshall School of Business, their 2nd year at HongKong University of Science and Technology, their 3rd year at Bocconiand their 4th year at a partner school of their choice. After four years ofstudy, students will be able to obtain three undergraduate degrees,recognized by the educational systems on the three continents.
