1.4 ConventionsThe following conventions are used in the document:

Keyboard keys are indicated in the text as [ XX ]. For example, Click on[ Enter ] means click on the [ Enter ] key.System messages appear in Courier font:system message

Operator input is shown after a double right-oriented arrow, in Courier font. The UNIX prompt of the user is also displayed. For root user the prompt is#, for axadmin user axadmin@host$ and for metrica user host:metricawhere host is the hostname of the machine.

For root user the input looks like the following:# operator_input

For axadmin user the input looks like the following:axadmin@host$ operator_input

For metrica user the input looks like the following:host:metrica operator_input

Software buttons on a terminal screen are also indicated in the text as [ XX ].For example, click on [ OK ] means move the mouse pointer to the [ OK ]button on the screen and then click the left mouse button.

To describe a menu path chain, the menu entries are chained with a ->.Example:Tools -> Options -> Printer -> ...

    2 New Features Activation

This chapter describes the tasks to be performed in order to update the optionalfeatures list of a running A1353-RA (including the activation of the Q3 featureand declaration of the NMCs).

    3BK 17422 4041 RJZZA Ed.03 15 / 24

  • 2 New Features Activation

2.1 PI 01: Update Optional Features File

Apply the PI only on the Master Host.

The file containing the optional features description is prepared at Alcatelhomebase. The file has an encrypted tag, according to the new features tobe implemented on that A1353-RA Master Host. The encoded file is called oflcf.in and has to be available on a mediasupport (tape, floppy disk, hard disk, CD-ROM).In order to activate the new features it is necessary to replace the old file withthe new one and restart applications.1. Log in as axadmin user on A1353-RA Master Host. Make a backup of

    the existing oflcf.in file:axadmin@host$ cd /alcatel/var/share/netconfaxadmin@host$ mv oflcf.in oflcf.in.old

    2. Copy the new file in the above directory. The operation of copying the new file from the delivered media support isdepending on the media (i.e. if the file is on a tape, use tar command, if it ison a floppy disk use volcheck to mount the disk, then cp, etc.)

    3. Check the presence of the new file:axadmin@host$ cd /alcatel/var/share/netconfaxadmin@host$ ls -l oflcf.in

The output of this command must be:-rw-r--r-- 1 axadmin gadmin oflcf.in

Pay attention to the owner and access rights of the file.4. Open the new optional features file oflcf.in and check the following

    parameters:

    NUMBER_OF_EGPRS_UNITS

    NUMBER_OF_CS3CS4_UNITS

    NUMBER_OF_AMRFR_UNITS

    NUMBER_OF_AMRHR_UNITS

    NUMBER_OF_DR_TRE

    NUMBER_OF_TXDIV_TRE

If any of the above values is lower than 65535, any PRC activation mayfail. In this case calculate the sum of all on-site values for the impactedparameter. If the sum exceeds the value written in the file ofcfl.in ask thecustomer to reconfigure the network so that the values are below thelimits from the licence file.

    5. If in oflcf.in file there were features modified (other from the above ones)you need to stop and start the OMC processes. To stop OMC processes run the following commands:

    axadmin@host$ cd /alcatel/omc3/osm/scriptaxadmin@host$ sudo ./MF-shutdown

Wait for the end of the execution of the script, then restart OMC processes:axadmin@host$ sudo ./MF-start

    16 / 24 3BK 17422 4041 RJZZA Ed.03

  • 2 New Features Activation

After the end of the script, click on DSM icon on A1353-RA iconbox and waituntil all processes are green. If not, please call Alcatel TAC level 2.

Wait for the end of script.2. After the configuration, click on DSM icon on A1353-RA iconbox.3. Check the processes of the group ens_ from subsystem

    application_.

If the processes is in red color, please call Alcatel support.4. Close the DSM window.5. Update the Completion Check List (CCL).

2.3 PI 03: Declaration of Primary NMC

Apply the PI only on the Master Host.Refer to SPS for all necessary information.

2.3.1 OMC-R Configuration for Q31. Refer to the SPS to find out the value of the ALARM_ACKNOWLEDGMENT

parameter. As axadmin search this parameter in the file/alcatel/omc3/q3im/conf/param.cfg. If needed updatethe file.

    2. Perform the following commands as root user:# cd /alcatel/omc3/q3im/script# ./configure_omc_for_q3.pl
