Tosurviveandthriveintoday’sfluidenvironment,culturalorganizationsmustdevelopthefinancesthatsupporttheircontinuousstabilityandadaptation.Yetflawedplanning,communicationsandfundingnormsoftenunderminelong-termfinancialhealth.Inthisworkshop,wehelpartsleadersunderstandtheelementsoffinancialsustainabilityandhowtostartplanningfortheirorganizations’long-termhealth.Definingcapitalizationas“theresourcesanorganizationneedstofulfillitsmissionovertime,”GrantmakersintheArts(GIA)beganofferingConversationsonCapitalizationandCommunityin2010aspartofitsnationalefforttoaddresstheunder-capitalizedtendencyofthenonprofitartsfield.GIAhasledtheseworkshopsforfundersandnonprofitsinmorethan15communities.Thesessionwillofferknowledgeandperspectiveonwhatittakestobuildviableandresilientbusinessmodelsandbalancesheets,intheserviceofartisticvitality.Itisdesignedfororganizationsthatwanttostrengthentheirfinancialplanninganddecision-makingskills,andlearntobettercommunicatewithsupportersaboutfinancialprioritiesandneeds.Recommendedforexecutivedirectors,seniorfinanceprofessionalsandboardmembers.
