MY EXPERIENCEGrew up in Overland Park, Kansas.
Graduate from Blue Valley Northwest High School.
Graduated from Kansas State University with a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education and an endorsement in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages..Have taught at Rosehill Elementary one year. 3rd Grade last year.
Second year of Teaching and love every minute of it.

DAILY SCHEDULE

Make sure your child is dressing appropriately and wearing a jacket whenever they come to school. During the winter months make sure they are wearing sweaters on very cold days.•Please make sure your child comes on time. We start the day at 8:00 a.m. every day. It is extremely important that they don’t miss out on school.

HOMEWORKHomework will follow the district guidelines of 40 minutes a night. Homework will be assigned Mon.-Thurs. evenings. Please check your child’s planner daily for homework assignments.

GRADESLetter grades will be given in all subject areas.

BIRTHDAY TREATS AND SNACKS
WHEN YOU SEND BIRTHDAY TREATS THEY MUST BE PRE-PACKAGED WITH THE NUTRITION FACTS INCLUDED. THESE WILL BE SENT HOME AT THE END OF THE DAY AND WE WILL CELEBRATE YOUR CHILD WITH A NON-FOOD CELEBRATION.

READING- WONDERS
Shawnee Mission purchased a new Reading Curriculum that not only has a reading program. But it is a Language arts, Spelling, and reading all in one. It follows Commore Core Material to better prepare the children for the state assessments.Leveled readers to differentiate and individualize your child’s education to better meet their needs. Each child will get a workbook to use each year too.
Reading Logs: pg. 2 Please fill them out every Thursday. For extra credit your child may read every night for 15 minutes.
ACCELERATED READER
Child takes a STAR test to see what their reading grade level is.After they find out their grade level they go onto the Library system to find a book within their grade level.They read the book that is within their AR level at home and at school.They come to school and take a comprehension quiz on that book.Each book has the AR level and how many points it is worth.Each child will have a point goal for each quarter that they have to reach by the end of that quarter. If they do not reach that goal they do not get an AR certificate and a prize.

SOCIAL STUDIES- BUY A STATE
Student locates the map without any state names on a map to state helper mom.The student will then need to spell the state. Tell the capital and tell the postal abbreviation. State helper mom puts the date of the bought state in his/her folder then puts the state abbreviation on the map of the student folder.The state helper mom then subtracts the point and calculates the new points.Continue until the child purchases what they want to purchase.
Each student is only allowed to buy 3 states at a time.Student goes to seat and colors in the purchased state and write in postal abbreviation.
PENNY PERSONALITY
1) Child finds a penny for each year they have been alive starting with their birth year.
2) The child can make a powerpoint, photostory, posterboard, or anything creative that tells about each year of their life.
3) You may use photographs or the child may draw their own events. 4) For each year the child is alive they will have a current event to
match their life event.1) For example: children who were born in 2001 could put a
picture of September 11 when the twin towers came down. Then the next picture would be one of them as a baby.

ASSESSMENTS
Assessments will be given in all subjects weekly or bi-weekly depending on the understanding of the class.
MAP tests are given at beginning of year, middle of year, and end of the year in Reading and Math.
State Assessments will be given to 4th graders in Reading, Math, and Science.
ASSESSMENTS AND HOW THE DATA IS USED
Spelling Test- Every Friday your child will be given a Spelling test. The spelling words need to be studied at home every night throughout the week so they are ready for their test on Friday.
If your child scores a 70% or below on any test they may have the choice to make corrections at home on the test and return it for ½ the credit.
Your child’s data drives the instruction in all subjects.
