    2. INTRODUCTION HOW IT WRITTEN

    Explain the disease, pathophysiology,

    anatomy of the intervention,causes

    and other realiable information

    (WHAI IT IS)

    Total Knee replacement(TKR) or knee

    arthroplasty, is a surgical procedure to

    replace the weight-bearing surfaces of the

    knee joint to relieve the pain and disability

    of osteoarthritis.

    (CAUSES)

    1. Osteoarthritis,

    2. rheumatoid arthritis

    3. traumatic arthritis

    4. Osteoporosis does not typically

    cause knee pain, deformity, or

    inflammation and is not a reason to

    perform knee replacement.

    (REASONS THAT MAY BENEFIT FROM

    TKR INCLUDE)

    1. Severe knee pain eg: advancedosteoarthritis

    2. Moderate or severe knee pain while

    resting, either day or night

    3. Chronic knee inflammation and

    swelling

    4. Knee deformity: a bowing in or out

    5. Knee stiffness: inability to bend andstraighten

    6. Failure to obtain pain relief fromnon-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

    7. Inability to tolerate orcomplications from pain medications

    8. Failure to substantially improvewith other treatments such as cortisone

    injections, physical therapy, or othersurgeries

    (IMPORTANT INFORMATION)

    At home, keep working on bending andstraightening leg, as well as help increasethe range of motion of your knee. This willenable you to walk, climb stairs, and sit onchairs or on the toilet.

    1.Ice to decrease pain and inflammation.

    Apply for 15 minutes, 3-4 times per days

    2. Try not to sit for more than 45 minutes atany given time because your knee maybecome stiff and/or swelling of the entire legmay occur. If you wish to sit for longerperiods of time, i.e., watching a movieor TV., you should stand and walk a shortdistance and attempt to bend andstraighten your knee several times.

    3. Do not sleep or sit with anything under

    your knee eg: a pillow.

    4. If at anytime you notice persistent fever,swelling, pain, or drainage from your wound,immediately call your surgeon.

    5. It is important that all physicians anddentists caring for you to know that youhave a joint prosthesis.You will require antibiotics before and afterany invasive procedures or dental work toprotect against infection.

    6. Your new knee may activate metaldetectors in airports and department stores.This is noted on yourself.

    (EXERCISE FOR THE KNEE)

    1- ANKLE PUMPS:Lie your back with knee straight, bendankle up and down as far as possible inboth directions. Repeat with otherleg.Hold 5 Sec

    2.STATIC INNER RANGEWith your legs straight and a towel rolled upunder your ankle, press knee down forcontractingyour thigh muscle. Hold for 5 seconds andthen relax. Repeat with other leg.

    3- STRAIGHT LEG RAISE:While lying flat on your back with youruninvolved leg bent and your foot flat on thesurface, tighten your thigh and lift yourinvolved leg. Keep your knee straight. Onlylift to the height of the uninvolved knee.Repeat with other leg.

    4. BICYCLEThree times per weeks for 15-20 minutes.To mobilize the knee flexibility

    5. Sitting Kick

    Sit in a sturdy chair. Straighten your knee as

    much as possible. Hold for 5 seconds. Slowlylower your leg down and relax.
